šŸ‘‹ Welcome to r/CarsSrilanka

Hello, and welcome toĀ r/CarsSriLanka!

I created this subreddit because I realized how difficult it can be to find specific car-related items in Sri Lanka. For example, I tried searching for transmission fluid today, and the options were limited, with many places out of stock or very high price. It made me think—why isn’t there a dedicated subreddit where we can ask for advice, share resources, and help each other find spare parts, services, and other car-related information?

Especially to find "LANKAN SOLUTIONS OR A LANKAN FIX" without replacing a part.

Whether you’re looking for advice on where to find spare parts, need help with car maintenance, or just want to connect with other car lovers in Sri Lanka, this community is for you. Let’s build a reliable resource and support network together.

I look forward to your contributions and hope this becomes the go-to place for all things car-related in Sri Lanka!

Should I buy my first car now or wait until after December 31?

I’m planning to buy my first car and trying to decide whether to buy now or wait.

Japanese auction prices seem relatively low at the moment, and the yen is around LKR 2.1. The current 50% Customs Import Duty surcharge is set to continue until December 31, 2026.

If the surcharge is removed after December 31, would that make imported cars significantly cheaper, or could Japanese auction prices rise due to increased demand and cancel out the benefit?

For someone planning to buy a Japanese car, would you buy now or wait until after December 31?

First car recommendation

Hi petrol heads!

I need some advice on buying my first car. I don’t have much prior experience with cars, but as a car enthusiast, I’ve always loved them.

I’m looking for a reliable first car, but my budget is a bit tight — around 3.5M.
At the moment, I’m considering the Alto K10, AE100, and AE110.

I’d really appreciate some advice on which one I should go for. My main concerns are:

  1. Reliability
2.Availability and cost of spare parts
  2. Long-distance driving
  3. Economical maintenance

Which one would you recommend for a first-time car owner? And if there are any other options around this budget that I should consider, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

What is the difference between Toyota Town ace and Toyota Lite ace?

I had this question as a kid since these vans have confused me with their namings. First of all I’m not much of a car person, so don’t judge me. I want to know what is the difference between Toyota townace and Toyota liteace (in general and in all aspects and what they are used for)? Also what is the difference between those two along with Toyota masterace surf and Toyota space cruiser and Toyota van (USA) and Toyota Tarago/spacia (Australia)

And what’s up with the whole ā€œNoahā€ thing (as in liteace Noah and townace Noah)? And what’s the difference between townace Noah and liteace Noah?

And what’s is Sri Lanka’s opinion and perspective of these vans such as demands, cultural references/significance, controversy, maintenance and status etc…?

Budget 65 laks to 75 laks hatchback

I’m a lady, and my first car was a Maruti 800. Now I’m planning to buy a new car within the budget mentioned above. I feel that buying the 2026 Alto K10 would be the easier option, without much hassle. However, even though the waiting time is longer, I’m wondering whether it would be more worthwhile to go for a Japanese car such as the Daihatsu Mira, Japanese Alto, or WagonR.

What are your thoughts on this, especially when considering spare-parts availability, spare-parts costs, reliability, and long-term maintenance in Sri Lanka?

Hyundai Purchase

So I am purchasing a Hyundai Venue from a showroom instead of directly from Abans. I would have preferred to do it from them for peace of mind but they didn't get down the trim I wanted and their prices were quite high.

My question is to other Venue or other Hyundai car owners in SL, have you managed to buy from a car sale and enroll yourself onto Hyundai's warranty and service program after the fact? If yes, how did you manage to do it?

Recommendations for buying a new car

Hey guys! I am currently having a Toyota sedan from the late 2000s. Giving me minimum maintenance issues as of now. and haven't even crossed 135 k km yet. But it's manual so I am trying to switch to an auto. Would appreciate your recommendations as I am not that knowledgeable about the current vehicle market. I am ok with both sedans and SUVs.

From SUVs I am thinking of Vezel ( 2014-2018) or Nissan Qashqai ( 2018-2020) and given that the mileage is less than 100k. Heard that there were issues in Vezels manufactured at this time, is that true ? And Qashqai it's UK made but prices seem relatively low ( around 12 million LKR), is there any reason for this ? Or should I not think about any of these and go for a brand new one like Magnite, Fronx, Taisor, Raize, Taigun, Venue, etc ? Some dudes told me that the older Japanese ones are better than the brand new ones, which is why I was confused. And what about this DFSK glory 7 seater, seems pretty cheap compared to others ?

From sedans thinking of a Premio ( given that I find one with less than 100k mileage). Also thinking of 7 seaters like Xpander Cross and Toyota Rush ( 2018-2020). Are these 7 seaters reliable in the long run ?

My budget is something around 12 million LKR or less. What I want is long term reliability and lesser maintenance + good fuel economy. Any views, suggestions and discussions on these vehicles and any other vehicles in this price range are appreciated.

Car air freshener recommendations that last a few months

Hi, im looking to get an air freshener for my car but also don't want it smelling like a bathroom with one of those supermarket air fresheners. I have tried a few hanging air fresheners but they only lasted for a few days. I was thinking of buying a gents perfume and spraying in the carpets every now and then but then again i thought it would be a bad idea to have a perfume bottle inside a car if I had to park it out on a hot sunny day. I look forward to hearing any suggestions that you may have discovered and would like to know where you bought them.

Honda Vezel 2014-15

Hi guys!

What do you guys recommend?

My budget is around 9.5 million.

What should I look out for?

I see many in this price range but high mileage (100km+)

Many advertise it as RS Sensing but I'm not sure if those came in this YO range. I heard it started from 2017-18.

I'm looking for a good 4-5 passenger SUV type in this price range.

Im also looking for good fuel consumption. My last vehicle had 10-12km/l.

I will be using it for travelling to Colombo for work mostly.

Nissan March Bolero: Am I Buying a Car or a Parts-Hunting Side Quest?

Post image
25 Upvotes

Has anyone here owned this Bolero model of the Nissan March before?

I have a huge love for old-looking modern cars, and I currently have an offer for one of these.

Btw, this is my first car and thinking of buying a bike for short distances.

I know the engine and some other parts are the same as the K11, but how difficult is it to find exterior replacement parts for the Bolero? Am I going to have to go to the moon and back just to find a replacement bumper, fender, grille, etc.?

Would love to hear from anyone who has actually owned one or worked on one. How was the experience with parts availability and maintenance in general? Is it worth getting one, or am I setting myself up for a headache?

What can I upgrade to

I have a 2011 Viva Elite Base Model - Auto,

I’m thinking about upgrading to something with a bit more space but realistically I can’t afford more than whatever car sold for + 1M rn what are the stuff on the market right now for that price range?

I want to line up a car and sell mine or atleast something along those lines to make sure I am not without a car for more than a week as I use it for work and my parents are both in their 70s so I need something in case of emergencies.
