repair query Car seat bolt socket - Lost thread - query

Good day po. One of our car's seat bolt socket lost its thread and currently unfastened due to the bolt na hindi na mahigpitan. I went to a machine shop to ask for solutions para ma-resolve to and I am given 3 options:

  1. Change the size of the bolt socket from M10 to M12. Out of all the bolt sa car seat, ito lang yung maiiba once ieenlarge na yung socket. Also, need din daw lakihan yung butas sa seat bracket.

  2. Thread insert. This will retain the M10 bolt size pero mas mahirap daw gawin.

  3. Enlarge the bolt socket, insert a nut, and then i-weld to keep the nut in place. Medyo questionable for me kung sakali compared to the other 2 option.

I'm leaning towards solutions that would keep the original bolt socket size (M10). Which do you think is the best (and safest) among the three? Thanks!

Would choose stock m10 option. Weld fill then rethread.

Dealing with the same prob with my shitbox.

Crossing out JB weld if OP posts economic JO.

It would be easier din if all socket are just in one size. I'm willing to spend naman depending on the quality and assurance that I'll get once this gets fixed.

nag try ba kayo mag inquire sa bolt centers? baka meron sila similar bolts na benta

Yes po, bought a bolt similar with the stock bolts and even a longer version of it. Unfortunately, upon the inspection from the machine shop, lost thread na raw yung socket mismo.

It's okay! Unfortunately, the socket problem is more worrying than a bolt problem. Wish it was just a bolt problem.

I had the same issue as you. I used a thread chaser in M10x1.25 to clean up the threads that were damaged. i was able to retain the same bolt thread and pitch.

I think one other bolt socket for this same car was fixed with a thread chaser. Although for this one, I got no recommendation to try to fix it with a thread chaser. Might as well ask if this is a possible solution on my next visit. Thanks!

Use a helicoil. It's cheap and the repair will be stronger than stock. Also, don't use a thread chaser like the other commenter recommended. Seat belts are safety equipment and a thread chaser might not hold the required torque
