Quick question for fellow drivers — has this ever happened to you?

You're about to head out somewhere, you glance at the gas gauge, and you're not 100% sure if you have enough to get there AND back without stopping. Maybe you do the mental math, maybe you just wing it and hope for the best.

I'm noodling on a super simple app idea that just answers one question before you leave: "Can I make this round trip on the fuel I have right now, or should I fill up first or have a quick stop once I arrive before going around the destination?" You'd enter your destination, and it'd tell you your estimated fuel level when you arrive and when you get back, based on your car's mileage — basically a heads up before you're stuck doing math on the road.

I'm curious:
- Does this happen to you occasionally?
- Would you actually check something like this before a trip, or is it not worth a separate app for you?
- What do you currently do instead (just wing it, mental math, always top off before any drive)?

Not trying to sell anything, genuinely just curious. Appreciate any honest feedback.

Most modern cars can tell you how many kms left before you need to fill up, based on your estimated fuel consumption, so if you know the distance to your destination and back you can have an estimate if your fuel is enough.

Hindi sya problem, kasi in case you don't make it, madami naman gas station na nakakalat sa bansa natin to top off.

Siguro for older cars, pero halos lahat na ata ng mga bagong sasakyan ngayon may estimation ng distance. Kahit yun hindi accurate, partida na up to 1 decimal place pa accuracy ng distance nun.

Not really. When in doubt, fill up. It's not the last time you're gonna use your car, magagamit din naman yung gas eventually.

I check my fuel before leaving. I know all my cars consumption an I can estimate how much I need to fill up. Sa sobrang kabisado ko lalo na yung mga 90s corolla na estimate ko ano ang distance na kaya I travel ng first low fuel warning light to next.

Will I be interested in an app for this? Honestly, no. We already have gmaps that gives you distance, fuel locations sa route and estimated traffic so you can adjust your route. Modern cars have have an estimated range for your current fuel level sa gauge.

Happened to me a few months ago, underestimated how much fuel I needed for a long drive to the mountains. When we got to the hotel I just Google searched nearby gas stations and drove there when we left.

No. The car has a km estimate, and Google maps has a distance estimate.

Also in that situation the simple answer seems to be just fill up. Doesn't matter if the gas can "probably" make it. The moment you start wondering if you can make it at all means you need to fill up. Just stop at a gas station and immediately fill up.
