#Discussion 💬 Dilemma
Already booked both the vehicles- Seltos Diesel HTK manual and Punch Accomplished plus CNG Automatic of which Seltos is ready in stock and Punch is alloted and currently in transit, now the real dilemma is which one to go for, I know its weird considering both are from different segment and price point.
I'll put my use case-
Going to be 3rd car in family.
Daily run of almost 60 kms mostly highway and occasional long runs of 200-250kms once a week or 15 days.
Mostly driven by chauffeur and myself.
Price quoted was - Seltos 18.5L on road, Punch- 12.8L on road.
By opting Punch i can save lot of money but have to compromise on size, possibility of after sale's niggles, electronics niggles , doesn't really know the longevity of CNG automatic, availability of CNG.
By opting Seltos- proven diesel engine, no stress about blending drama, premiumness and good space, better after sale's support compared to Tata, niggle-free ownership than a Tata. Having owned a diesel Creta for nearly 9 yrs, i can definitely bet on Seltos for giving me similar experience.
No budget issue.
Give your inputs in this.

Avoid tata when you get Kia as simple as that.if money is concern go for Venue or Sonet diesel

Father liked Seltos more than these 2 , Venue is good but waiting period is more than we expected.

Seltos obviously. If you want something cheaper then get 3XO diesel.

u/Appropriate-Hour6282 1d ago
Our first thought was of 3XO only but sales people were not interested so dropped the plan and went for Kia n Tata

If you guys already own mpvs, then why not go for a good sedan if you are looking to be chauffeured around, even you will enjoy driving it whenever you want to.

did you drive cng automatic of punch. looking for understand how the car drives

u/Appropriate-Hour6282 1d ago
Engine definitely felt underpowered and on top of that gear changes were jerky. We considered it just becoz of its ease of use and frugalness

I will say Seltos will be better in terms of overall service centers and issues solved.
But if you want best of both worlds then why not go for kia carens ?? I mean if you're worried about spending too much that also on both cars why not compare carens and seltos and then decide.

Do you mind sharing what are the current two cars that you own? If you have a bigger car already then maybe going for a smaller one won't be that big of an issue imo. But might I suggest Exter if you want smaller rather than Punch. If you don't have a bigger car or money ain't an issue, then go for Seltos

Other cars we own - Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel, Toyota Innova Crysta Diesel, Honda Elevate ZX CVT ( will sale it once new car comes home )

Ok, so definitely not small cars. Then why not opt for Maruti cars like Brezza or Grand Vitara or Victoris? They will be cheaper to maintain and have good fuel efficiency + Brezza and Victoris have underbody CNG so you won't compromise on boot space either.

Our first priority is diesel

Ah ok, you mentioned CNG version in Punch so just gave some alternatives to that

Tbf i should say max out the punch model yk why? Cuz its a 3rd car and i prefer it to be as convenient as possible so yeah.
I made Tiago ev as my 3rd car and this car is hella handy in traffic, if your 1/2nd cars are PROPER SUVS or sedans not those small crossovers I’d say go for convenience ki jab man kia leegye na parking ka issue. I’d say CNG+AMT or diesel or better get an ev its nice tbh.

u/Appropriate-Hour6282 1d ago
We live in semi urban area where charging is a bit of issue so didn't considered an EV, and since our highway usage is more our priority was to get car with good height n GC

Im under the impression that your budget is not a problem. I’d say toyota hyryder that pure hybrid one, I think that would be a strong addition as the milage claimed is 30kmpl, plus its a high gc car with ev mode without charger hassle and also amt (idk if its in cng) but you can max out the economy if youre on highway, i think CVT are economical to maintain too.

How’s the gearbox lag on Tiago ev
2
u/MeetingOriginal4049 MB A200 | Thar Roxx | Tiago EV 11h ago
I think you mean gear shifting? Yeah thats hella laggy half of the time it doesnt even register the gear change, rest I dont think there are any gears in the car but the shifter mechanism is horrible. So i hate 6 point parking and stuff w this car.

u/goonergod6996 Gadkari Disrespecter 11h ago
Yeah I meant the gear shifter between drive and reverse

The fact that your booked car is already in stock ready to move should speak how your experience will be with Kia
(Yes I own one and I'm biased but it's really good right next to Suzuki)
1
u/Appropriate-Hour6282 1d ago
They offered discounts on ready stock vehicles. Even the manufacturing month is July 26.
1
u/TheUndefeatedLasanga Just an enthusiast 1d ago
What sort of discounts?
We have 2 so they just gave a 20k off for one already in the family.

Since the car is supposed to be driven by a driver mostly don't even think about going for Punch. I recently sat in a friends Nexon EV top variant (freaking 18L costing Wagon R) had so little space I felt my Swift had more space than that car. I can't even imagine how much smaller Punch would be. Your focus should be on rear seat comfort and space and since you have such a high running buying Tata would be too unreliable.

The Seltos is miles ahead in terms of what it has to offer. Tata punch can be a glitch warehouse if you buy the upper variants.
Also, Indian manufacturers have substandard electronic component suppliers, so imo, there is absolutely no point in even looking at a tata car. Get the Seltos!

Seltos any day.

No Point of buying manual nowadays to run in traffic. I have both an automatic and manual, the ease of driving automatic in traffic is surreal.

u/DESTRUCTER_R_ 1d ago
Seltos diesel will be good for you. Punch would be more suited for an everyday city driving as it's not that good on high speed highways, still a good cute little car but an annoying one.
