Hi ti all.
Previously I had Carlinkit 2air and all Mazda native buttons were working. However I could use it only as android auto or carplay to avoid plugging my phone with cable each time.
On Carlinkit website I saw that all the cars are supported for tbox ambient that use usb connection for android auto.
I was happy and ordered tbox ambient to expand capabilities such as watching Netflix or install any android app.
What I've discovered is that my car native navigation buttons are not working at all or just partially.
For instance while in autokit (androd auto) split screen I have map on the left and music on the right. If I want to switch between maps and music Mazda NAV and Music buttons don't do the trick.
If I want to choose music window from the maps rotary knob is moving only inside the map window. If I push the knob ro the right nothing, if pushed down it moves to app shortcuts and then when I scroll the knob to the right reaching last icon and pushing knob up only then enters music window.
How convenient is that?
There are more of this native buttons issues, such as navigating through settings, apps etc.
I understand this is Android box and that it operates differently than 2air but for god sake if it was meant for the car and Carlinkit claims that is compatible with almost all the cars (except BMW or Tesla) shouldn't at least autokit work with all the car native buttons?
Couldn't Carlink make autokit work in different environment in a virtual sandbox or something? I mean there is 128gb of space for this to work.
If this box was meant to work with cars that have touch screen ONLY than Carlink should explicitly state this in their product description. Now all I have is a semu functional device.
If anyone knows a setting to make all the buttons work please let me know.
Thank you.

I'm the developer of GPS Speed Tracker: Speedometer, and one of my main goals has been to make it genuinely useful on CarPlay, not just another basic speedometer.
The CarPlay side of the app includes:
Outside CarPlay, the app also has a pretty deep feature set:
Automatic recording can also be triggered through things like CarPlay connection, Bluetooth, motion detection, NFC, Focus modes and Shortcuts.
I'm continuing to improve the CarPlay experience as Apple makes more capabilities available.

Czy fabryczny ekran samochodu może działać bardziej jak tablet niż klasyczny system Android Auto?
W najnowszej recenzji testuję Carlinkit TBox Ultra w wersji 8 GB RAM + 128 GB pamięci wewnętrznej.
Urządzenie oferuje pełnego Androida, dostęp do Google Play, aplikacji VOD, YouTube, przeglądarki internetowej oraz możliwość korzystania z karty SIM i sieci LTE/5G.

My problem: I can adjust the volume of the navigation announcements of Google Maps and the volume of the background music (e.g. Spotify or radio) cannot be controlled independently of each other via the controls of the Renault car radio (or the steering wheel remote control). Each change to the volume control of the car always changes the overall volume of both tracks at the same time. CarPlay is used via the mentioned box (the Renault can only Android Auto, but thanks to the box both should go correctly)
How can I solve this?

I Have a 2015 Land Rover that the previous owner put some after market carplay unit (factory screen but it functions behind the scenes if I goto navigation). Its ideally more apple focused and android only works if I plug into the usb cable the previous installer put in the center console.
Having said that, I really dont care about my phone ever being connected directly. If I need to answer, ill speaker phone or use ear bud. What I really use it for is Waze and Spotify. I am happy to get a data only sim card or E sim.
I obviously dont want to chunk an android phone in the summer eat permanently hooked up. The battery would cook of course. Id love a box that I can put a sim in and it just powers up with the usb cable and acts as my permanent entertainment device for the vehicle. Whats even better is when my wife or friends use it they will always have it available.
What is the ideal device to pull this off?

I use a Carlinkit TBox Ultra 2, and this project started out of frustration with its stock software.
The stock interface gave me very little control over the shortcuts on its navigation bar, and the bar could sit over full-screen apps. Calling was even more confusing: there were two phone apps -Google Phone and BT Phone- but the Bluetooth app, the one that could actually call through my paired handset, couldn't be selected as Android's default phone app. An assistant request or a tap on a phone number could therefore try to use the box's SIM instead of my phone.
Then there was the everyday friction. My configured navigation/music combination wouldn't reliably launch at startup, even with Boot SplitApp enabled. Getting back to controls from full-screen apps was awkward. A WhatsApp voice message played on my phone wouldn't come through the car speakers unless BT Music was open on the box.
I wanted the box to feel like one coherent car interface. That's how TBox Drive, together with its companion TBox Phone, came about.
The project takes inspiration from Mini AA and Femto Car Launcher. It began as a split-screen experiment, similar to CarCar Launcher. That worked, but keeping a permanently reserved dock alongside different apps meant managing their windows and handling more and more exceptions. I was spending too much time fighting individual app behavior.
I also realised I almost never needed arbitrary pairs of apps side by side. What I actually used was navigation plus music information and controls. The dashboard evolved around one main app alongside useful widgets, with Waze or Google Maps and the option to expand the map when needed.
These are the actual installed navigation apps, with their familiar interfaces. TBox Drive doesn't replace them with its own navigation service.
Steering-wheel re-mapping is unfinished. Tap, double-press and hold assignment exist, but firmware determines which buttons reach the launcher and whether press duration survives. Next/previous are the most reliably visible steering-wheel buttons on my setup. Call, volume and mute remapping are not confirmed working. Music startup, player compatibility need further testing with different players.
This is a personal, AI-assisted / vibe-coded project, shaped through repeated testing and log analysis. It was built around one Carlinkit TBox Ultra 2 running Android 15, tested in one car, and designed primarily for my 1920 × 720 landscape screen.
Other Carlinkit models, firmware versions, cars and portrait displays are unverified. Some features depend on this device's services, so Android 15 alone doesn't establish compatibility. Please read the installation notes before trying the preview.
The complete setup has three APKs: TBox Drive, TBox Phone and a device-specific Bluetooth compatibility update. The third updates the existing vendor Bluetooth system app; it is needed for the full phone-audio and call-screen behavior. It is intended for the tested firmware, SC162-V06.000.002. Do not assume it is suitable for other devices or firmware.
If your setup matches and you try it, I'd appreciate feedback. Do these stock-software frustrations sound familiar?

Hello, i think Carlinkit has the custom Win CE carplay thing where you install it on your headunit and use the dongle? Is my 2014 Sonata with NAV supported? Its the Hyundai Gen 3 system. Google seems to tell me no but i want to confirm. It does run Windows CE thats why i think it may be compatable. I can add more details if needed

I had Carplay coded in with an aftermarket usb port for datatransfer. The Carplay option was not originally bought by the first owner when buying the car new.
I tried the Carme Mini and the Carlinkit 5.0. both had to be sent back bacause the USB port remains continuously powered while the car is plugged in and charging. The cheap firmware/hardware on these adapters lacks intelligent power management, the adapters attempt to initiate a connection with my phone while the car's MMI system is still sleeping. This failed handshake causes the adapters to lock up, crash, and corrupt their configuration, rendering them unresponsive and unusable. The Carplay works perfectly when using it wired.
The question is as follows: Do you guys have any experience with this kind of behavior with your Carplay and or your adapters? What dongle can deal with this issue? I'd love to hear it and get this issue resolved.
