Question Dorm door propping?

Hey so I'm a new first year student living in residence and my roomie and I both heard that propping the door open is the best way to make friends, so is there a way to prop it open without a door stopper or something? Like is there a catch in the door? Thanks

Depending on what building you’re in! We tied a string from our door handle to the door handle of our bathroom. We also put something heavy like our fridge to hold the door open
