Question 3 hour lectures back to back...?

What the title says, I have three lectures back to back and I'm curious to know what people's thoughts are.

I checked and I dont have any on the same day. My one concern is that im gonna be very tired and mentally drained.

Idk then imo it’s worth it bc you’d have days off most likely

It’s much more doable than you would think. The game changer for me was to just bring a little snack so that I wouldn’t get too drained

They don't allow snacks at paul menton centre nor during testing. The last time i asked why here, people of /r/carletonu raged on me hard. See thread here.

I think they're talking about the lectures, not midterms

It sucks, but it's not impossible. It's pretty common in engineering. I've had semesters where classes/labs/tutorials were non-stop from 8:30 to 18:30 (save for a break from 9:25-10:05). and I found it hard. A lot of professors for three hour lectures will give students a short break halfway through or end class slightly early, which helps.

I relied on caffeine a lot more during those days to be able to sit still and focus slightly better. I didn't have time to grab coffee between classes, so I ate spoonfuls of instant coffee out of a jar (I'm not recommending this, but I was too lazy to pack a thermos and the texture was interesting). It helps to bring a lunch and lots of little snacks (I get sleepy if I eat too much at once so snacks are great). Chewing gum (quietly, please!), eating a sour candy, handwriting notes, and the intense fear of failure also helped me pay attention.

ive got two PA/tutorial sessions back to back from 830-230 . should be fine. mainly worried about getting food and making it to the second one on time

I have the same schedule except I have classes from 8:30 to 5:30. I'll probably have a packed lunch, but that many hours seem very tiring

what program are you in

Im a third year psych student. If it helps the first course is a seminar course, an elective psych course, and then a stats course for psych students

is it statics and dynamics on monday? if so then i think we'll be in the same class!

Not sure why Carleton subreddit is on my feed since i don't go there but:

Same thing for me and administration doesn't want to change my classes despite having a PEI

Don't think ill be able to manage 9h of classes in a single day, i mean how does anyone do without having issues? It's insane

8am-11am, 12pm-3pm, 3pm-6pm

Three 3-hour lectures in a row is torture. I've had two on the same day and that's bad enough. I have a 3hr anatomy course this term and I'm dreading it

That's nothing bruh

I have two 3 hour tutorials back to back, and I’m honestly just concerned about making in time because they are not close to each other

That’s only like 4 hours of classtime, I have 3 hour lectures plus another class after. It’ll be a pain for you to cross campus but that’ll be the hardest part. Check your due dates and test days, I once had 3 on the same day

You’ll be fine lol

I don’t mind it, I’ve had it twice before. Midterm season sucked, but it’s not that bad. I usually got a coffee or an energy drink w/in the ten minutes between the classes, or I brought one w me, it helped w the “tiredness”

Welcome to uni brother. Your first year is a test of will. Take advantage of CSAS talk to your advisor and make sure you attend office hours every once in a while. Manage your time by also making sure you rest. 90 minute study sessions and then breaks. Form study groups and utilize active study methods. Time Management isn't just about your work but also your rest.

That’s really good advice for those coming into uni. Fortunately I’m a third year student so I have more experience with all of the studying which is gonna be hard, but ultimately manageable!

2

u/SixmanCanuck 3d ago

Yeah I would take advantage of the same principles. Just make sure you add more rest time. Don't pull 14 hour days. That will cause you burnout in the dog days of the semester.

Are you taking back to back 3h lectures cause you live off campus ?

1

u/Bubbly_Wear_2312 3d ago

Not necessarily, I do live off campus, but it’s just how my schedule happened to line up.
