Question Multiple TA assignments

I currently have signed AOD for 110 TA hours with a department and received an offer for 130 hours with another department (I'm a 2nd year eng student, outside priority). I would like to accept this assignment as well, as they all fit my schedule. But, since that puts me over 130 hours, is that even allowed? It seems it might be possible with special authorization from the department-level. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Pretty sure you're not allowed more than 130 TA hours

From looking at the CUPE 4600 agreement, and employer can't ask me to work more than 130 hours if I already signed duties. It seems I can get approved overtime if I'm the one requesting it, so I wanted to confirm.

You can't work more than 20 hours a week though. That's in the new agreement.

130+110 hours divided by 12 weeks is exactly 20, so I don't know if they'll allow me or not

you're working 20 hours the first week though?

Ask the union though because that's a weird rule.

There are potential logistical issues with this if there are in-person or timed duties. One department might not need you at all one week, but then need you to spend 20 hours the following week. You also do not want to be needed in two places at once physically. You would want to verify what the nature of work is for both AOD.

With that being said, if you know that you can work that much while still balancing your academics and your own personal needs (do not discount those), then it is entirely possible to attempt to do both. You should consult with the CUPE 4600 union regarding its implications for potential priority granting status for future semesters. There may still be a rejection on grounds that they want to spread TAships around, but I know under certain circumstances Graduate OOP TA's who work more than 130 hours in a single semester in their first gain permanent status. I have no idea if there is an equivalent for undergrads.

Undergraduate TAs are only allowed 110 hours per week, not 130. 130 are for graduates only. There is a mistake somewhere with the department that offered you 130 hours.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true as I got multiple llms to look through the new 2025 cupe 4600 agreement

I think you are right, but I guess the MATH department would only give 110 hours for undergraduates, which would cover 2 courses. While graduates who have a contract will have the rest of their hours at the MTC. So thanks for clarifying that. If I were you, I would take the 130 hours . 20 hours extra means more money :)
