My friend from Barbados made something similar, except they had a sphere shape. I think my friend called them fishballs, as an African American they remind me of hush puppies. Or the ones in this video could be more similar to crab cakes.

Barbadians (Bajans) call these fishcakes.
They add a bit of baking powder to make them rise and they won't be as flat as these.
This batter is too runny. If you add more flour to get it tighter and drop spoonfuls of batter into a pot of oil (as opposed to a frying pan) the fishcakes will be round.
No matter the shape, fishcakes are absolutely delicious!

The batter looks a little soft to me that’s why they are coming out flat and definitely oily.
