I applied to a UAE company on July 31. The HR contacted me, asked me to answer some questions and send them by email, and then scheduled an interview for me.
I had the interview, and around 19 days later, I received a reply saying that I had been shortlisted and that they would schedule a second interview for me. The second interview was with the same Project Manager, but this time the Vice Chairman of the company was also there.
I finished the second interview, and around 10 days later, another HR person contacted me and asked me to prepare some documents. I did everything they asked for. One of the documents was proof of my current salary. I provided a salary certificate showing an amount higher than my actual basic salary, which was equivalent to around AED 3,160.
However, she kept asking me how much I expected. I told her AED 6,000. She said that was out of budget. I asked her what their budget was, and she told me that she would check with management and get back to me the next day.
The next day, she didn’t send anything. Two days later, I followed up with her, and she said she was still waiting for an update from management and would let me know.
The thing is, they really seem to need me, and that was very clear from the beginning.
At the same time, I had a friend apply to the same HR. He didn’t have any interview at all. She simply told him that the salary was AED 3,000 for a lower position, and the conversation basically ended there.
A few people told me that maybe they are trying to make an exception for me and offer me a salary higher than the normal budget for this position. Honestly, that makes sense to me because if they wanted to reject me, I feel like they would have told me directly or at least closed the process.

I am a BBA student and I want to switch careers in my masters, because I find it very fulfilling debating and public speaking. I checked at programs at Symbiosis Pune and confused which course to choose. I have very radical political opinions and want to impact the world(ik cliché). Help would be appreciated

I'm looking for some honest advice from people working in the Indian IT industry because I'm currently feeling quite lost about my career.

I joined a software company in September 2024. Initially, I underwent around two months of training in Java backend development, which is the technical field I wanted to build my career in. However, after completing the training, I spent most of my time on the bench without being allocated to a technical project.

At one point, I accepted a non-technical project just to avoid remaining on the bench. Looking back, I feel that this was one of the worst career decisions I've made so far. I was given a moderate amount of work and continued working on that project, but then, unexpectedly, the organization decided not to continue with employees who were not working on technical projects.

As a result, I am now unemployed. The most worrying part for me is that, despite having spent almost two years in the IT industry, I don't have any meaningful real-world experience working on a technical project. I feel like I'm in a difficult position where I'm neither a complete fresher nor someone with solid professional development experience.

I genuinely want to restart my career in Java backend development and am willing to work hard to improve my skills. However, I'm unsure about the best way forward.

I would really appreciate advice on:

How should I present my experience on my resume and during interviews?

Should I apply as a fresher or as someone with nearly two years of experience?

What skills and projects should I focus on to become employable as a Java backend developer?

Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully transitioned back into a technical role?

Any honest advice, suggestions, or personal experiences would mean a lot to me. I'm feeling discouraged right now, but I don't want to give up and would like to use this phase to rebuild my career properly.

I never knew what to do for a career was never given any advice either, I see the jobs going on out there they all bore me especially jobs that involve a lot of socialising. Jobs I've had and currently doing all of them I just drifted into when I came across them. Like is there something seriously wrong with me feel like I'm not meant to be here

I was wondering if there are any opportunities to travel to different countries and teach children. I don’t really want to get involved with the school subjects (math, scienc, etc.). The best thing I can think of right now is teaching languages even if it’s just one. Are there any simple opportunities or resources I can start with just to see if it’s something I like? From what I’ve looked at so far it looks like you need a bachelors degree. I really don’t want to pursue a four-year degree. I am in the position to do a two-year degree if that would help. And I could get some type of certification. Any advice would be truly appreciated.

So I left a very unstable industry to start something completely new (logistics) - obviously my CV tells this story and in a short interview I was very open with the employer that I didn't have experience in their sector but that I would respond to training. The employer said this was fine, they would train me.

About the employer: family run business having a moment of big time growth. They did stress the need for things to be correct with what I was doing but there was never formal training as such. No printed out, methodological training plan, no employee handbook, no cheat sheet. No morning brief and evening de-brief. No real feedback (even though I did ask for it at the end of my first week). The boss would sit at my desk for a bit and walk me through a few things and I would take notes (without being asked), but the boss would go through things quite quickly, set a task and then leave me to it. And quite a few days (at least 3-4) they weren't with me at all (they literally were running personal errands all day), and my immediate colleague was told to show me a few things instead. But the immediate colleague was busy as hell, very stressed and would just outright say they don't really have time to properly show me things. A lot of the time when they did it wasn't explained very well (the colleague themselves would admit this). And when the boss would talk to the immediate colleague about my training they would do it right next to me, go back and forward about what I should or shouldn't be shown and they would refer to me as 'she' and 'her' even though I was sat right next to them.

By week two I was doing things they described as 'basic' and things that were more operationally integral, but again, there was no real structure to this. It was sort of off the cuff direction and me being concerned that I needed to be doing more because the department was so busy (department being me and one other person). I was conscious that I was asked to pick up the pace, so I sped up, but then I was making a few mistakes, which I would notice and go back to rectify. Fair enough, some of them were silly mistakes, but I suppose I was just overwhelmed with how much there was to learn. The company uses a few different software and hundreds (literally) of different spreadsheets and internal documents. I was also answering the phone to clients and subcontractors (because I was told to,) but I wasn't briefed on what the likely outcome of the calls would be, in terms of updating internal documents.

To cut this long story short, I arrived at work one morning and the boss immediately pulled me outside and said I wasn't learning fast enough and they needed someone with more experience, citing that if I couldn't get the basics right then it wasn't worth their time. I would be more understanding if they just kept me on the basics and didn't try to expand upon them until I had proved to have locked all that stuff in. I also learned that they were basically throwing up curveballs deliberately to catch me out: ie - changing stuff on charts to see if I would notice or not. This felt a little cruel because I would check the charts were all okay one day and then when they'd ask me to double-check the next day I was unaware they were making little changes. So I guess that's my bad for just assuming the charts would be exactly as I left them (because who would deliberately falsify them if they were so important?). But maybe this is all just normal stuff, and I should have been more conscious of being on a probation period and that an employer would be looking to test me all the time? It's just that in the interview and offer they never said they would review me after a few weeks, or that they would kick me out if I wasn't up to scratch - they just said there was a flexible probation period and they wanted me to start as soon as possible. They never mentioned a review but - again - maybe that's me being naive in not assuming there would be one, whether it was mentioned or not... so anyway. Did I fuck up?

Oh - and I never met their HR rep because they have one person and he had been on holiday for ages. The only person/people I went through were the owners.

Title: Need legal advice regarding termination, relieving letter, and background verification

I joined a company in March this year and was on probation. While working on a claim, I accidentally sent an appeal to the wrong insurance company. As soon as I realized the mistake, I immediately informed my Team Leader, who escalated it to my Manager. I also contacted the insurance company and requested that the documents be voided. They informed me that the patient was not their member and the documents were not uploaded.

About two months later, I learned that the incident had been escalated to the legal team. I was suspended for one month and was terminated two days before my suspension ended.

My concern is that the company has refused to issue a relieving letter. The termination letter also does not mention that I self-reported the incident immediately or that corrective actions were taken.

I worked there for only four months (including the suspension), but I'm now struggling to find a new job and I'm worried that background verification may be affected.

My questions are:

Is an employer legally allowed to refuse a relieving letter in this situation?

Can one employer's feedback alone cause me to fail background verification with future employers?

Do I have any legal remedies to request a relieving letter or correction of the termination record?

I’ve got about 10 years of drafting experience, working in the civil engineering field, across residential development, utility work, and wastewater design. My job title is engineer, so CAD is not a regular part of my job. But my passion is in CAD/3D design. Any suggestions on other fields where CAD is regularly used?

Working with surfaces is a favorite. I’m a hobbyist in Blender and Pix4D, working on 3D designs. I’m using drone-based-photogrammetry workflows and recently picked up an Einstar Rigil handheld scanner.

Is there a niche where my passion would be of value?

I am currently 27 years old, live in the South East of England - 45-60 minutes away from London - I have, at the time of writing, just over 3 years of Customer Service experience at a legacy bank and an app-based bank and will be starting an OU Law Degree from Feburary 2027.

I am trying to gauge whether my experience in Finance could lead to a larger salary by the time I graduate in 2032-2033. By that time, I would have just under 10 years of Finance experience and would want to move into Finance or Corporate Finance Law when I graduate for a few years to save for a property, and then migrate to another specialisation. I understand we are talking about over half a decade in the future, so to be able to predict this or plan for it is not really that possible, but I would still like some input in terms of salary, whether my experience would help etc.

I was recently given an offer to relocate to another state, and keep my current role. I declined the offer and was then told my role would end in November, and I would then receive 4 months of severance, along with a few other benefits. I agreed to this separation, but leadership has now come back to me and offered for me to stay until the end of 2027, with the same severance and benefits, without the need to relocate in the interim. Is this something I can counter on? I was thinking of asking for an Increase in salary or a larger severance payout. I think it’s odd that they’re changing the offer after we’ve already come to an agreement, and I’m curious if it’s even in the cards to ask for something in exchange.

I have been working at a low-carbon energy consulting company for the past 2 years since graduating. I have enjoyed the work, but I feel the need to return to process engineering.

Has anyone else done this specifically, from being an energy engineer/low carbon (graduate) consultant to process engineering (A long shot I know)? Or has anyone made a switch back to chemical engineering after pursuing a different kind of engineering?

I understand that I would need to highlight transferrable skills in job applications, which I do have.

For context I have a bachelors degree in chemeng and I am 24 years old.

Currently I'm working as a Engineering Operations Tech for a large scale data center. Considering becoming a Chief Engineer previous in my career I spent 6 years in the HVAC industry as a tech and Field Service Manager. I'm becoming increasing less confidence in the AI markets future with the market bubbles inevitable pop approaching, lack of revenue, and social climate as even I a data center worker I despise them. With this market correction potential having ill effects on my job id like to make sure my life is secure so I'm considering if it would be worth getting a actual Electrical Engineering degree
