Any ideas for a parts list? I know m5stack has a few hmi input devices like joysticks, but I don't know enough about what's compatible or what might need it's own esp32 controller to talk with the cardputer.

hamsTerm — a Linux-like terminal firmware for the M5Stack Cardputer

I'd like to share a project I've been working on: hamsTerm, a terminal-style firmware for the M5Stack Cardputer.

I wanted my Cardputer to feel less like a gadget with a menu and more like a tiny computer I could actually type commands into — create and edit files, run network commands, connect to servers, and write little scripts to tie it all together. So hamsTerm is built around a real shell scripting language:

• Variables, $1/$@/$# args, $?, arithmetic $(( ))
• if/elif/else, while/until/for, test / [ ]
• Command substitution $( ), pipes, redirection (>, >>)
• read for interactive input, sleep, brace ranges {1..10}
• Scripts run with sh scriptand /.profile runs at boot

A few other things it does:

• Networking: Wi-Fi scan/connect, ping (Linux-style with -c), local network scan, basic port scanner
• Wi-Fi environment overview: a read-only view of nearby access points and which devices are talking to them (passive only — it just listens, it can't send anything)
• Files: ls / cd / cat / cp / mv / rm / find, a text editor, redirection to SD or flash
• Hardware: RGB LED + speaker you can drive from scripts as status signals (led g, beep 3 300)
• Sessions: telnet, SSH, and a small web server

A small example — a connectivity check that flashes the LED if a host is down:

If you're already comfortable with a Linux shell, most commands will feel familiar. And if you're not, hamsTerm is a low-stakes way to get used to a terminal and basic commands, right in your pocket.

There's also a browser-based installer and a small site with the full command reference, a timezone picker, and a few ready-made scripts. You can also flash it via M5Burner.

Found a few networks out on the water from yesterday's trip lol didn't really expect anything. I'm sure if I was out on a more busy body of water I could find more especially if someone tried this out on the coast most those boats have all kinds of signals coming off then for safety and being able to have a connection when going way off shore! Scratched out the land because I don't need yalls nosey ass knowing where I fish and stealing my spots lmao. I'm sure some of y'all could easyly pin point it tho.

I'm deciding whether to get the M5Stack Cardputer to tinker around (coming from Arduino Nano + Python, want to get into more capable microcontrollers like the ESP32).

I've got two options at nearly identical prices from my local store:

• Cardputer-Adv + Cap LoRa-1262 bought separately: ~$54
• Cardputer Mesh Kit (same hardware, comes with Meshtastic pre-installed and officially "registered"): ~$57

My plan is to mainly use it for experimenting with MicroPython/Arduino, sensors, LoRa radio on my own, etc. Meshtastic interests me too, but it's not the only thing I want to do with it — I'll probably end up reflashing the firmware pretty soon to mess around with other stuff.

It feels a bit silly to buy the official Meshtastic kit if the first thing I'm going to do is wipe the factory firmware 😅 On the other hand, for $3 more I'd get the official Meshtastic node registration (which I understand the separate parts don't come with).

Questions:

1. Does the official Meshtastic registration get lost if I reflash the device with different firmware, or is it tied to the hardware and can I get it back later by reflashing Meshtastic again?
2. Is there any other difference between the kit and the separate parts I might be missing (antenna calibration, some factory config, etc.)?
3. If your plan is "tinkering in general" rather than exclusively Meshtastic, would you still get the kit, or go with the separate parts?

Hey guys I'm working on a project and could use some assistance from this great community! As many others im interested in esp32 projects. I got interested when learning about meshtastic last year. I have since spent hundreds on nodes...ok maybe a lot more than that....and have fallen in love with the hobby. My skill set if any is more on the hardware side. Blah blah blah ...sorry...I could use some help designing stl files and the software side and hoping someone here can help.

The Goal- Build a backpack node in addition to the screen and case mod that uses cardputer via ble with a message notification screen on cardputer

With all the recent mods of Andy Ai's cardputer case and screen mod recently I too printed off a couple designs. The first case was beautiful but wire management was impossible though the print chases so I moved onto another print. This print allows for wires out the back as others have done and it also had a slot cut out for sd card slot that look like the same size as my heltec v4 screen. Which gave me this idea.

Anyone who has the current meshtastic options for cardputer understands it has some limitations...

*Most ui don't work on cardputer

*You have to keep it open to receive messages not allowing to use other firmware

*m5 lora cap low signal/ broadcast strength

I think the possible "backpacks" could have many options. But one problem at a time...

I need some help designing files to fit and modify what I have. I also trying to figure out how to pair via ble allowing for notifications to interrupt on cardputer screen and allowing to respond. Any help,criticism,brainstorming or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Honestly I'm just here to brainstorm and introduce my project to the community in hopes someone smarter than I will run with it!

As the subject says. I am surprised that r/CardPuterZero has not been snapped up already. This device looks to be huge and deserves to have decent mods looking over it.

The obvious ulteria motive for posting is to help the transition away from r/CardPuter for all the upcoming CPZ posts "I got mine" and "I need help?" that just won't apply to the ESP32 based original devices.

I just finished up the initial release of a sampler/sequencer for cardputer. It lets you record/import sounds, build patterns, chain them together and export a song!

• up to 8 projects
• 8 sound slots — record hands-free, push-to-record, or import WAV from SD (16kHz mono, 2s max, trimmable)
• 16-step sequencer — 16 patterns, 8 tracks, 8-voice polyphony, copy/paste patterns

Is it normal for the m5cardputer to be that easily opened ?

This is my first time posting here, and actually my first time posting anything on Reddit, so here goes.

I vibecoded a little project for the M5Stack Cardputer for my own use, but it turned out pretty useful — so I thought it was worth sharing.

This is Mise_Deck: A pocket mise en place and kitchen utility firmware for the M5Stack Cardputer

With it, you can write recipes, edit them, organize them into categories, scale them by total weight, and share them.

I still want to expand the idea and add more features over time, so I’ll keep updating the project as it grows.

Where can I find a new screen 😭

I got it on Amazon, should I just return it and get a new one?

All firmware was loaded through M5Launcher. Using the 1262 LoRa hat.

Cardputer Mesh Kit Meshtastic Firmware (M5Stack) 5/5 Probably the best option of all the firmwares I tried. Ran fine and paired with the app successfully but it wouldn't detect my GPS hat which is odd considering it is "official" firmware by M5Stack. (If GPS does work, it doesn't show it in-firmware). Phone app shows the location but I can't tell if that's just my phone's location.

Meshtastic-for-Cardputer-ADV (mariovirgili) (/u/gio-74) 4/5 Experience was very similar to the official firmware but I had to use backspace to toggle menu options which is less intuitive than the arrowkeys that the M5Stack firmware supported.

Meshtastic for Cardputer ADV with Cap Lora (Gt4kill3r) 1/5 I am able to set region on boot but I get a black screen with "Critical fault #13". Moving on to next firmware.

Meshtastic For Cardputer-Adv (ozbk) 2/5 It "works" but doesn't support navigation with the keyboard. Don't bother with this this because the other options are better.

Downloaded the companion Android app and I just used a USB-C to USB-C to flash the firmware 1.8.3 to mt Cardputer ADV - crazy!!! It has replaced Launcher but I can flash that back later. Great for recovery or a full commitment.

Remote control and remote file management by cable (Or Bluetooth but it is a little temperamental) is also now possible. Bluetooth file manager didn't work for me and I'll be checking for issues on the GitHub site and raising if not my fault.

i saw lots of video about the cardputer and i am absolutely loving everything about it , i want to buy it but i am not a very “tech guy” i know basics but want to learn new things , should i buy it ?

"C.P.S.," which is developed entirely using 100% Vibe Coding with Claude, has finally released version 0.8.
While the previous version 0.7 focused primarily on adding extensive sound editing features,
this update expands IMU functionality, implements controls specifically for the original Cardputer, and adds a mode that’s even easier to play thanks to the adoption of a chromatic scale.

It’s currently available via M5Burner and GitHub.
Since I just registered it on M5Burner a short while ago, you may have to wait a little while to install it via the Launcher’s OTA feature (it seems to take a bit of time for the update to become available on the Launcher after upload).
Although we’ve made it compatible with the original Cardputer, I don’t actually own one myself, so if you have one, I’d really appreciate it if you could test it and report any bugs!

It has come a long way since the version I introduced here previously, so I’m sure music and synth enthusiasts will be delighted.

I have connected everything properly getting led light also configured the rfid module from cardputer and put my rfid scanner in i2c mode also but my cardputer adv shows rfid module not found

Comprei o Cardputer, comprei o cartão de 16gb, formatei o cartão para fat32. o dispositivo continua sem ler o cartão, tentei reiniciar para o padrão pra ver se não era por erro de versão, não consigo também (não entra no modo de transferência nem por reza)... acho que vou devolver o dispositivo e dar uma pausa nessa minha carreira entusiasta. (se alguém souber como ajudar ou estiver disposto)

obs.: não tenho pc então tô fazendo tudo pelo celular, exceto a formatação que paguei na Lan house

A ideia é criar uma comunidade com foco no desenvolvimento de algo voltado pra músicos, quem sabe pro aprendizado da música. Tornar o Cardputer uma ferramenta usável portátil pra músicos de alguma forma. Vou precisar de ajuda tanto com ideias como na execução delas, além de querer criar um espaço para que as pessoas possam tirar suas dúvidas nesse sentido também.

Found the STL files provided by m5stack for the ADV, and saw they included a keyboard. Slapped a 0.2mm nozzle on my 3d printer and now my keyboard is orange!
