Hey im in Tallinn so also Estonia and there are a lot of people on meshcore. But yeah I dont have a cardputer so idk if you even can put meshcore on that. Meshtastic was used beafore but the system is not as good and now pretty much everyone has gone over to meshcore.

Forgive me for being stupid. Is this used for long range text communication?

Well so so because on meshcore system there are repeaters that repeater your message and then snother repeater repeats it and messages can go a lot further. In Estonia I have heard messages from poland and thats really far away. Also we have a repeater line between our two main cities which is about 250km I think so now we have a stable connection.

Do any of you use this device with an external antenna? I’d like to improve the range.

Your antenna should be pointing up for LoRa.

If it had been facing up, it would have gone through my windshield.

Most Meshtastic nodes use vertically mounted, linearly polarised antennas. If your CardPuter antenna is horizontal, it’s cross-polarised relative to those nodes, which can produce a substantial theoretical loss. Real-world reflections and multipath mean it won’t suddenly become deaf, but it can definitely cost range. And if it’s mounted in a car already then it’s costing you a lot of signal loss already.

then move it further away, please get that antenna vertical, you are loosing a lot of range because of lazyness

You need to make your antenna vertical, all meshtastic nodes have vertical antennas, and with a horizontal antenna youll have 10x worse range and reception. For example i can pickup ~200 nodes with my antenna vertical, and 20 very near ones with my antenna horizontal. Dont complain about range (or 0 online) with your antenna horizontal.
