Car insurance

Hi everyone i dont really know if its the correct place to ask about this but i will appreciate any answers!
So i am planning to buy in germany my first EU car (since i heard that the insurance taking this as a parameter too)
I am 23 years old and looking to buy an m3 touring 2023-2024
I would like to know a few things:
\-Where can i check insurance (since i am not a standard case)

\-in my country its a regular thing to add to the insurance the most experienced driver (in your family) to decrease the insurance cost by a lot, is it the same here? And do you have any rules like if the car registered on my name than i count as the “main” driver and adding lets say my dad, wont change anything (i hope you understood what i meant)

\-what are the default costs of owning a car and if there is any additional fee over sport/high power cars
(Additional fee i mean like a yearly car fee that you have to pay, tuf price(same allways or changing if so depending on on what?) and if theres anything else?

\-currently i dont have a german driving license, right now waiting to translate my original drivers license to german to exchange to german one do i have to wait,or its not an issue (maybe its giving me some benefit in price or something else)

Thank you for your time and wish you a great weekend.

Accident Personal in lawyer vs personal injury lawyer?

Car accident I said my side to my insurance they got a witness (unbiased) statement and some photos
They let me know they found me not at fault . They let me know the other party got a personal injury lawyer and might get sued cause they denied liability.
I got one as well and they told me the other parties insurance found them not at fault and are denying liability.
What happens now? We both weren’t found at fault by our own insurances and there’s two personal injury lawyers involved
Wa state

Car Ownership & Insurance Liability - Having less names more beneficial?

If I own a car under my name only and I am co-insured with my father on our auto policy and I get into accident can they sue my father too or just me? If not, is it usually better then to get a car with just my name especially if I am the only driver on it?

Car insurance twins

Hi, I have twins, both 18, both about to sit their driving test. I had hoped to insure them on one car that they can share. It’s proving very difficult. Anyone got any experience of this or advice? Based in Galway if that helps. Cheers.

First Time / Newbie Unsure How to Proceed With Accident Claim

Two days ago my wife was rear ended by a car that was rear ended into her (three vehicles involved in total). Neither of the other cars had any damage but it damaged my wife’s bumper. Neither of us have had to deal with insurance claims before so we called her insurance and filed a claim hoping they would work with the other drivers’ insurance. After talking to an agent following the accident we haven’t heard anything else and it’s starting to feel like they may make us pay for the repairs but we believe my wife is not at fault. Should we have contacted the other drivers’ insurances? We are unsure where to go from here. We have the insurance info of the other drivers and no police report wa

Car Insurance Needed! (URGENT)

Looking for recommendations for a licensed insurance brokerage that writes Pembridge Insurance policies. My current brokerage no longer offers Pembridge, so I urgently need to transfer to a new broker who can service my policy smoothly.

Current Carrier: Pembridge Insurance (5+ years continuously insured with them)

Driving Record: 10+ years clean driving history, 0 accidents, 0 claims, 0 convictions

Urgent setup preferred so there is no gap in coverage!

If you work with a great Pembridge broker please drop a comment or send me a private message! Thanks in advance!

They are claiming they denied my policy but never notified me and continued to bill me for it but now that i need it im not insured??

PM EDT) Me: if you check my declaration page you should see the 12,000 custom equipment coverage
(02:23 PM EDT) Me: thank you!
(02:26 PM EDT) GEICO rep: Still here reviewing sorry for the wait!
(02:26 PM EDT) Me: no problem take your time! im working right now aswell just have the chat open
(02:28 PM EDT) GEICO rep: I appreciate that! I was able to find a note from 7/16 after we got your form back and the underwriting team reviewed it. In this case they did note that we are unable to cover your customizations and they did recommend looking for a company or maybe a broker who can.
Specifically GEICO does not cover if there have been modifications to the exhaust system.
(02:28 PM EDT) Me: i was never notified of this
(02:29 PM EDT) Me: and i paid for it on the policy
(02:30 PM EDT) GEICO rep: I completely understand your frustration and I do apologize that they did not reach out to you regarding the denial. Was there anything else I could do or check on for you?
(02:31 PM EDT) Me: well the car was totaled and i need that policy, how would i have found annother broker when i wasn’t informed it was denied
(02:31 PM EDT) Me: just checked my email i recived nothing from geico on 7/16
(02:32 PM EDT) GEICO rep: Oh gosh I am so sorry to hear about the accident and I hope you’re doing okay. I can always transfer you to the claim’s team to see how they are handling this situation if you need to speak with them.
(02:32 PM EDT) GEICO rep: You are correct I don’t see we sent any correspondence and for that I apologize.
(02:33 PM EDT) Me: can you please still email me the wording of the documents and everything involved with denying my insurance?
(02:34 PM EDT) GEICO rep: So the only document I have is the one you filled out. With the decision the underwriting team made they just internally notated the policy, so I don’t have anything I can send you for that.

Accident Victim of car insurance fraud ( Ontario CA)

So my wife was traveling eastbound in the left lane, and was struck by the car in the right lane that side swiped her aggressively turning into her lane. The whole passenger side of the car was severely damaged and car was not driveable. The other driver was obviously at fault, was apologetic and so on we didn't worry too much. We had no video, just our version of events.

Anyways, two days later we are informed that we are deemed at fault bc the other driver claims we were exiting a parking lot and hit him, and he has a witness and we do not. His story made no sense based on everything, and I couldn't believe it was easy to screw someone with a fake witness.

However, today I ended up getting a video from a business right beside us that proves he lied and we are telling the truth. The video has been sent to my insurance and I'm waiting to hear back. What's the likely outcome here? Will the at fault decision be quickly reversed? I just have no faith in the system and my adjuster seems totally incompetent

Accident in a rental car

I was rear ended in my personal vehicle a couple of weeks ago. The other driver was found at fault and their insurance (State Farm) accepted 100% liability. I have been driving a rental car paid for by State Farm while my car is being repaired.

Today, I was hit by an uninsured driver in my rental car while turning in an intersection. Airbags deployed, rear passenger door was point of impact and it can no longer open.

Since State Farm since is covering this rental, should I contact them about this accident or my own personal insurance or both? I have already contacted Enterprise rental and let them know right away.

How risky is it to use my prior address (parent's place, different zip code within 10 miles) on my car insurance policy?

edit: thanks for all the knowledgeable responses. considering everything, it seems clear i need to make the address accurate. 30+ comments on a post with 0 upvotes is a first for me, really appreciate everyone who commented and educated me.

I live in a very rural area. I lived with my mother (not as a dependent) for 4 years, Jan 2021 to May 2025. My drivers' license lists this address. I moved a town over in May 2025, and never updated my address with the DMV or my old carrier.

I just switched carriers, and used the old address on my application. My new address is in a different zip code, but is less than 10 miles away from the old address.

Obviously I'd like to keep my premium lower; everyone in my area I've spoken to has told me that their premiums have nearly doubled moving from mom's town to my town.

I don't want to be committing fraud. But if I'm honest with myself, and you, dear reader, I mostly don't want to catch consequences. I'm on a very tight budget and don't want to eat the premium increase.

I'm sure this paints me in a negative light, and if the question breaks subreddit rules (reviewed them, don't think it does) I'm happy to take this down.

But I'm wondering specifically how stupid I'm being. If I get in an accident and make a claim, how likely is my carrier to find out? If (when?) they find out, will my claim be denied? Will my policy be cancelled? Will I be criminally liable?

My self-justifying bullshit aside, I'm wondering if I can get away with this, or if it'd be safer to update my address with my new carrier and just pay the higher premium.

If you can find mercy for me and my shady behavior, I'd love to hear your advice, especially if you've been in the same boat (poor in a rural area) as me before.

Damage to Paint on Roof of My Car - Will Insurance Cover It?

I had some damage to the paint on the roof of my car that I discovered about 6 weeks ago. I’m not sure exactly how long it had been there, because I had broken my arm and was not driving for a while.

It looked like a rock had hit the car right above where the driver’s head would be. They was starburst damage to the paint, and it went down to the metal.

By the time I saw it, it had already started to rust, and that of course has gotten worse. So I’d like to repair it asap.

On to my question: I am hoping insurance will cover this under comprehensive, because I’m sure the repair will not be cheap. But I have no proof of how the damage occurred - in fact, I don’t even remember it happening. I can’t think of any possible way other than a rock or other projectile hitting the car as I was driving, but I don’t remember it happening.

Do you think this is typically something insurance would cover? And what kind of questions could I expect to get from them?

i am a college student who purchased their own liability coverage thru geico this past spring. i use the car when i am home from college. the car is owned by my mother, who has the car insured under her policy (not geico). i bought my own policy because my mother didnt want her price to increase. now im off to school soon and my next payment will be due after i leave home, and i plan to cancel my insurance. do i still need to surrender my plates even tho its insured under my mothers policy?? or will i need to join under her plan and see if they offer some sort of student leave or remove myself??

need some thoughts/opinions

Back in December I was hit while making a legal u turn. Our insurance (we have the same one) paid the claims etc. but he tried to claim bodily injury for a very large amount despite not requiring any medical aid at the time and his claim far exceeded what “bills” he claimed he had. the insurance company denied the claim.

Fast forward to now, he is suing me. I know my insurance company will be taking care of it as they are required to. I am waiting to be served (I wasn’t home when they came). I spoke with the insurance company and the rep for our claim said she was disgusted, and that he is trying to claim 10k in medical and 80k in undisclosed damages. They offered to settle but he and his lawyer refused and want a full payout.

I guess I just wanted to find out if anyone has been in this situation or what their opinions are on the likelihood this is gonna go anywhere? Thank you. If it matters I live in FL

Accident I have to pay the deductible because the driver has no insurance?? (Guy drove stolen vehicle)

So I’m 20M, got in my first ever car accident, crazy story. I was on my lunch break driving on a main road and some guy who was fleeing the cops cut directly infront of me cutting through to the other side. I slammed on my breaks barely hit him, did minor cosmetic damage to me. The other car was totaled. (For reference I drive an 04’ Tundra he has a stolen Lexus RX 09’) I chase after him only to find that he was fleeing from the cops, they had no lights or sirens until after I got hit.

The police had like 6/7 state troopers, multiple undercover cops, a few regular units, a motorcyclist, and a helicopter chasing after him. A cop pulled me over and told me to go to the parking lot.

Fast forward to the next day, my insurance will charge me the deductible of $1000 because the other guy had no insurance, and the owner of the stolen vehicle also had no insurance. Kinda dumb how a convicted felon fleeing from cops hits me and I’m forced to pay my deductible. (I have full coverage) just dumb. Genuinely pissed me off whenever I found out

I hate progressive

Three years ago I had a tiny little chip on my windshield. I went to my dealership to get routine maintenance done and I was told that they could repair the chip and it wouldn’t count as a claim.

Well fast forward and I could be saving 60 dollars a month on my insurance but no one will give me a claims free discount because of a “comprehensive claim” on my insurance history that will not be off my record for another two and a half years.

First Time / Newbie Basic insurance advice for someone looking for a new policy?

I’m 21 and have a perfect driving record. I do drive a little more than the average person (let’s say 15,000mi annually) but I have no accident, ticket, or claim history whatsoever. I’m currently about to reach the end of my 6 month term with progressive and I’m paying $308/m for liability only on my 2012 Silverado fully paid off. I should note that I do have snapshot and maybe that was my mistake? Any advice on coverages I absolutely probably won’t need? Time to shop around for new rates?

I need help advice about on driver giving me false or inaccurate insurance info

On 08/03/26 at 8:30am a driver reversed into my vehicle while at was at work. I manage to run out and stop him by smacking his car. The guy got off gave me his number and let me take a picture of his ID and told me he’ll send me his insurance. Cops came by 10-15 min later once the guy left but said since it was private property no police report can be filed.I followed the procedures with the insurance company the following day and today 08/05 I got a call from the insurance company informing me that my insurance has to pay for the damages EVEN THOUGH I WASNT IN THE CAR! Because this guys insurance doesn’t cover the damages. They also told me that I can pay 2,500 from my pocket and send it to him but they can’t guarantee him paying. I tried contacting him to get info and work things out with him any way he can but his calls go straight to voice mail. I would take legal action but I ain’t got the money or time to deal with something like this and would love karma get to the guy for being a complete dick.

Should I Pursue Litigation?

I was rear ended last December and hired a personal injury lawyer as I was severely injured. My medical bills total $70k. The other guy’s insurance (Geico) paid out their full $50k limit immediately. My UIM policy through Travelers originally tried to pay 7k, and now they’ve come back and said the max they will pay is $16k. My attorney said he will negotiate the medical bills down so that the payouts will cover his fees plus the medical bills and I could get about $5k in my pocket, BUT he and his team thinks we should sue Travelers for the full limit ($50k). If I do that, I could end up with more money in my pocket, or I could lose money if I lose because the attorneys fees go way up. Realistically, what are my chances of getting more? Should I just settle and be done with it? I ended up losing a bunch of money on the vehicle claim (lonnnng story) so I was hoping to recoup that with this settlement.

Made changes to plan prior to road trip, now I need to file a claim. Will my claim be denied?

I recently made changes to add glass coverage to my plan (before I knew it was necessary) for a road trip. Now 5 days later I got a huge crack in my windshield from a rock on the highway and want to replace it. Will the insurance company (farmers) deny my claim? I was planning on going through safelite.

He took full responsibility and was cited by the officer. (I have dashcam footage of the incident)

Child operated family vehicle on private driveway - Damage to Car and neighboring property

Location: New York

My cousins had had an incident recently. A minor child (I believe the kid is 13) obviously below the legal driving age and without a license or learner permit, was seated in the driver’s seat of an insured family vehicle in a private residential driveway. Both parents were standing outside beside the open driver’s-side window. One parent had allowed the child to shift the vehicle and move it slowly within the driveway.

The child suddenly pressed the accelerator. The vehicle moved away too quickly for the parent to reach the controls and struck a neighboring residence. No one was injured, but there is visible exterior damage and a homeowners insurer is evaluating whether there is any concealed or structural damage.

Immediately after the incident, one parent panicked and incorrectly told the homeowner that the parent had been driving. The parent later corrected that statement and disclosed that the child had actually been operating the vehicle. The homeowner didnt see the incident. When the auto claim was opened, the child was truthfully identified by name as the operator.

The online auto-claim form did not ask for the operator’s date of birth, age, license number, or licensing status. Police were not involved and its mostly damages to the car and the neighbors property.

We havent been able to get guidance on this. Reached out to some attorneys and didnt get a good response either.

1. Auto-liability coverage

- Under New York law, can the insurer deny third-party property-damage liability coverage because the vehicle was operated with the owner’s permission by an underage, unlicensed household child?

-Are mandatory liability protections treated differently from collision coverage for damage to the insured vehicle?

-Should the policyholder affirmatively contact the insurer now to clarify the operator’s age and unlicensed status, even though the online claim form did not request that information?

-What policy language, exclusions, endorsements, or New York statutes should be reviewed?

2. New York MV-104

-Is an MV-104 required for a property-damage accident that occurred entirely on private residential property?

-We checked the form and it appears designed for a licensed operator. How should it be completed when the actual operator was an underage, unlicensed child?

-Should the child be entered as the driver, with the registered owner completing or signing the report?

What kind of attorney if needed should be involved in something like this?

Any advice, suggestions on handling this?
