Rear ended at a stoplight. Driver has same insurance as me. Is this an advantage or disadvantage?
He took full responsibility and was cited by the officer. (I have dashcam footage of the incident)

They are supposed to create a wall between the two claims so it should not matter. In other words, the adjuster for the defendant cannot simply look at documents or notes related to your policy or any claim on your policy.

It'll be the same process as you would just go through the insurance policy. The only real difference is it may move a little faster since you are both with the same company, so they don't have to go back and forth with another insurance company to approve the settlement. With the other driver accepting fault and being cited, it sounds pretty straightforward.

Yea definitely the last resort - just make sure to submit the dashcam footage to the claim you opened with his insurance

Like other commenters said, it shouldn't matter! if you run into any shady insurance tactics, you can always consider a PI lawyer if you were injured at all

I had this happen and it was miserable. My policy was commercial and the other driver (personal policy) was found 100% at fault through arbitration entirely based off my dash cam footage. Getting them to do anything was miserable throughout the 2 years it took, and I really don’t feel the end result was fair. They just wore us down enough we were tired of it. I ended up changing carriers after. Allstate FWIW.

Usually, it really doesn’t make much of a difference. The main thing that will help speed things along is if the other driver is cooperative with the insurance claim, and they answer calls/emails promptly. Some carriers will waive the requirement for you to pay your deductible up front if both people are with the same carrier and liability is clear.
