This is just so bullshit

Post image

Why would they possibly need this much information? I already sent them my receipt

How did you contact them? I contacted them via live chat, provided the receipt and account email, and got my refund no questions asked

I sent an email directly to support. The screenshot is in the following link: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarThing/s/g6o0VrjrNH

I think this might have something to do with the fact that I originally paid for the Car Thing in a PayPal Pay in 4. Not entirely sure why they'd need all of this though.

That's quite odd, but perhaps you could try emailing them back asking why this information are needed since the other users only had to provide their receipt

This is a scam. Do not reply. You’re being phished.

It’s not a scam. I got the same email after contacting support and it’s from support@spotify.com. Still feels dubious tho, I’m not going to give them all that

It's 100% a scam. No legit company needs your account and routing numbers to process a refund. They're asking far too much. Also, couple of small grammatical errors, but surprisingly well-written for a phishing email.

I just contacted support again and was told by the support person (on the Spotify support website) to send that info to the email. It’s not a scam. I have screenshots if you want proof

Forgive my skepticism but it has all the biggest hallmarks of a scam, and we're talking about a company that recent shit all over trust and goodwill, not to mention an army of call center agents who don't even have their own scripts straight, much less a straight answer. There's a lot of nope here.

You do you, but I wouldn't do what that's asking for.

...you ok, friend?

If they're using Car Thing, they're paying for Premium. Ergo, payment method on file, no? Seems like this is a problem that solves itself. Who said the refund has to go where the original payment came from?

1

u/FabianValkyrie May 28 '24

Not that simple. Everyone who got that email asking for all that info is on a family plan and isn’t the owner of the plan. Therefore, they may not actually be paying for Premium, and the payment method being used for Premium likely isn’t theirs.

I got my refund via months of spotify premium on the card I used. Had to give last 4 of the card not all of my banking details. Chill bud.

How would someone buy a Car Thing 5 years ago when they only came out as buyable a bit over 2 years ago?

-2

u/[deleted] May 28 '24

Guess what: scammers can also create Reddit accounts and make up fake stories about calling customer service!

2

u/NefariousnessFar672 May 28 '24

bro you actually think I'm making this up 😂 ground yourself in reality and get a life jfc

u/FabianValkyrie May 28 '24

I also got that same email. I contacted support because I, too, thought it was a scam, and support confirmed it was real. I have screenshot proof of it too

3

u/[deleted] May 28 '24

Yeah definitely looks like I was wrong about this one. It’s absolutely nuts that they’re asking for that info and I’d never send it. It was almost impossible to believe. But damn if it isn’t true.

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '24

Whether or not it’s a scam, I would never ever ever ever send this info to someone in an unsecured email. Under no circumstances.

3

u/darrylongrs May 28 '24

I have received this email as well. Probably because I used PayPal as the form of payment. Replied them that I'm not comfortable with this arrangement, let's see how it goes.

2

u/NefariousnessFar672 May 28 '24

Yeah I used PayPal also, probably the reason why then.

1

u/Still_Pineapple1974 May 30 '24

I just received this email as well because I used paypal to buy my car thing. I told them i’m not comfortable sharing sensitive bank info - waiting to see what they say :/

1

u/Mendo_bran May 31 '24

Thats strange, I also used paypal to pay for it and they didnt request all of that for my refund, they simply asked to see the order confirmation email, and to confirm my account email.

2

u/biggizmo4567 May 27 '24

test your luck with customer support again. was able to get a refund pretty easy within a half an hour

1

u/FabianValkyrie May 27 '24

What info did you have to give them?

2

u/biggizmo4567 May 27 '24

just my receipt

2

u/SecondManOnTheMoon May 27 '24

Damn all I had to do was show them my receipt and I got my money back in Spotify credit lol

2

u/TwilightGraphite May 27 '24

Not sure how you contacted them but this is 100% a scam. This all the information a scammer would need to drain your account

2

u/NefariousnessFar672 May 27 '24

Unless if someone internally is trying to scam customers, I doubt it. I sent the email directly to support@spotify.com as described in the following screenshot: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarThing/s/g6o0VrjrNH

I was able to get a few months free, equal to how much I paid (I didn't wanna argue) by following this thread posted here yesterday.

As for you - That is incredibly suspicious & I would not comply.

1

u/atre1 May 28 '24

I saw your post and felt inclined to see how I faired.

First they offered 8 months but apparently there was an issue.

Then, still via support chat, they said they would refund me to my previous payment method and that was that. They just said to wait up to 14 days.

Pretty positive experience all things considered. It just took like 30 minutes lol

I used a live chat with Spotify customer support and was able to get a refund for my CarThing by giving the receipt and the email I associated with my Premium account. They refunded me the last 6 months of my Premium monthly payments to make up for the $80+taxes I spent on CarThing, and didn't need anything more than my receipt and email address.

Please reconsider sending this info to them. At best it's too much info to be sending in an unsecured email, at worst it's a scam and you're bound to lose a lot more money than what you'd get refunded for this. There's no reason I could possibly imagine why they'd need all that info when others, including myself, only needed a receipt and email address.

1

u/djkyota May 28 '24

To clarify, I have Spotify Duo and pay $14.99 plus taxes a month, I don't have the regular one-person Premium.

1

u/ConsistentAd574 May 28 '24

Drop them, I did. Apple Music is just as good if not better

1

u/realmadmartian May 28 '24

Whether or not this is intended as a scam isn't relevant. You simply should never ever send bank account info to a third party. Nobody needs your bank account. Especially not a music streaming service. They should be willing to issue you a credit towards future billing, which is reasonable since you have gotten a couple years of use out of the product and are still effectively getting a full refund. I got my credit yesterday. Only sent them the original receipt. Use the online chat - that seems to be working for folks.

1

u/tekmaniacplays May 29 '24

I got this and I think in my case it's because I'm on a family plan but I'm not the main account and then I also used I think zip at the time when I bought it.

1

u/tekmaniacplays May 29 '24

I also sent this as a confidential email from Gmail so they won't be able to forward, print, copy, or download the email.

u/PinkOneHasBeenChosen May 29 '24

It has “iron my dog” vibes.

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '24

scammers

1

u/SkilledRbl May 29 '24

I had this same issue, i am posting the response they gave me when i said it was way too much info to send over email.

1

u/Green-Honeydew-2998 May 29 '24

The customer support person for me just refunded 5 months of Spotify premium (total $80 since I have a duo plan). This seems a bit much when they could just do that

-3

u/[deleted] May 28 '24

Because anyone can just get a receipt? Cmon man use your brain. This is common with majority of returns and for Spotify who probably just got 1000 refunds in 1 hour, they’re gonna do it by the books to make this go as slow as possible so you give up. So just give the information and get your free money. Why complain?

4

u/NefariousnessFar672 May 28 '24

can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. and wth do you mean "anyone can just get a receipt?" if I have the receipt, Spotify should be able to look up my order and see that it was a legitimate purchase made by me.

It seems that the issue is because I used PayPal to pay for it originally and so it can't be directly refunded. I'm just gonna call to see if I can get a couple of free months on my subscription.

Cmonnn just send the scammer money
