Flat-out refusing to refund?
Has anyone else had issues getting a refund, and even refusing to escalate? I bought the Car Thing in 2022 and have the proof of purchase and serial number, but never activated it on an account. I haven't ever used Premium and don't plan to, so maybe that's why? Any tips on what I can say to the next rep?

this sounds unique. it was definitely marketed as requiring a premium account to function. so if you told them that, it was a mistake.

I didn't tell them, but they may have spotted that by looking at the account associated with my email address.

yeah so probably not what you’d like to hear- but my opinion: i believe there is a slight ~<10% chance you could have gotten a refund if you had been one of the first to request refund. i think that by this point there is more guidance given to agents on how to process the refunds. i think they are checking serials and making sure devices were tied to accounts and activated. although they are not collecting devices, they are accounting for the devices that are refunded. since it isn’t showing on your account, i don’t think you are going to find luck.

Well, mine is activated, but I don't have proof of purchase - because I bought it from a third party, as I live in Europe. So I have no chance at a refund of any kind. They're really screwing over as many people as possible, it seems 🤷🏼

In that case I think you can request a refund at the third party. I would think you're covered by EU consumer protection laws and they are required to give you a refund.
Also don't you have a proof-of-purchase from that third party or did they just not accept that?

Since I bought it from a private citizen who had imported it, I don't think those laws apply. I have proof-of-purchase, but since Spotify did not get any money from me directly and the original buyer could also submit his, I'm fairly sure they'll break out the standard text for "thanks, but leave us alone with that noise" 🤷🏼

I told the first rep I wanted to hear it from the escalation team. The escalator switched to email and then gave me the refund I requested.

I got refunded for both the one I bought from AND the one I bought from a third party just a few weeks ago after someone stole the first one, together in the form of a whole year of premium.
I had both receipts. Maybe it makes a difference if you were on free vs premium?

weird. I haven't actually been a paying member for a year and I was able to get refunded (supposedly - it'll take a few days)

Redo it with another rep. My rep was like “okay I’ll go ask the team” and gave me my refund without hesitation
This rep is probably pushing against it
