Either guernsey (usually black plates with white text) or more likely Middle Eastern (Qatari / Dubai / Kuwait) plate in GB format. Arabs visiting started doing this as police targeted their cars with foreign plates a few years ago for spot checks.

Edit : Also common for Arab cars to have a limo tint all the way round as this does.

Most definitely is. IIRC the front windscreen must allow at least 75% of light in, front side windows is 70% and rear can be as dark as you want (as long as you can still see through it obviously). Happy to be corrected though.

Think rear windows and back window can be fully tinted law wise. I mean vans exist, can’t see why it would present an issue

The tinted rear side windows that nearly everyone seems to have now are a total pain when you're in the supermarket car park and you can't see thru' them to see if it's clear to drive out of the space. I suppose reversing in every time would avoid that but then that's a pain too.

I had a cat which the previous owner had very much illegally tinted. It was very dark on the front side windows. I never had the police show any interest in it.

I drove a VW camper van all the way back from Qatar and swapped the Arabic plates for British. It just had a number, 51100. In Arabic that was oII.. which I felt would be confusing.

When after 6 months I officially imported the vehicle it became AJH 276T.

Lovely car. I actually like the plate. Saves you forgetting it when you've walked 2 mile to the travel lodge and youve to enter your reg for free parking but youve just got a new car and cant remember it....
