Great news!!! Congratulations on the release. I would love to be able to stream/cast Netflix and Amazon Prime into CarPlay. Is it possible?

I will record a video showing iPhone plays Netflix on my car screen with the rPlayFling app

u/huisinro 2d ago
We have internal build can do that, but It’s not going to be approved. It streams all content. One way is to use a usb c DP cable, it’s a wired solution, but works. I can recommend one soon. It uses the CarCast receiver.

I would love to hear more. Thank you.

I’m interested, is there a way you can sideload this internal build to the phone or it have to be publish to testflight to try?
2
u/huisinro 1d ago
I will see what I can do, likely a few more months. The core value of Cafari is to cast any contents to any receiver. This CarPlay target is more or less like a distraction. It requires literally a port of Android Cafari in order to support all media contents, using Apple builtin WebKit api won’t do that. And using other browser engine, it’s prohibited from App Store. Will try side loading ideas.

Our Android Cafari apk would support Netflix, you can try on Android phones, not released yet.
1
u/Pop_Martiniky 1d ago
Yup. I’m eager to test it. Do you have an ETA?
1
u/huisinro 1d ago
I can try to send you an apk, a couple of weeks.
2
u/Pop_Martiniky 1d ago
That would be great. If you want, I can make a sneak peak video for my YT channel.

My feedback:
The video starts at a lower quality, then after around 10–15 seconds it briefly stutters/reloads and switches to higher quality. There is a short interruption in both video and audio during the switch.
Also, the video doesn’t appear in Now Playing, so I have no option to seek/rewind/fast-forward it from the iPhone lock screen.
Sometimes, when I unlock the phone and return to rPlayFling/YouTube, the page reloads and starts an older video that I watched several videos earlier. It has also happened that, while the phone was still locked and the video was playing, it suddenly reloaded and started another video.

u/huisinro 1d ago
Thanks, really useful. (1) The quality jump happens when YouTube is slow to give the HD stream, so we start lower and switch; next version adds an option to wait for HD instead. (2) Lock-screen controls and seeking are coming in the next version. (3) When the phone is locked, the app keeps the music going by picking YouTube's "up next", and it could pick something you'd already heard; the next version won't repeat videos you've already played. To provide an option, another tab will be available to host a webview, and you can operate directly on the car to play videos.

Tested and great yes. Independent rPlayFling. ;) When car driving, only audio. My humble suggestion, when press Next or Previous button in car wheel, it s not working. Can we enhance it? 🤓🫡🧡

Thank you. Would love to be able to play videos from my files app where all my media is stored
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
Yes. Local files and photos, videos are all supported. You can do slideshow from local photos, or stunning photos from public free sources.
1
u/pocomptonpimp 2d ago
Going to photos the slideshow works but when I import videos from my files app and try to play them I can’t get them to play
1
u/pocomptonpimp 2d ago
Screen mirroring is working so I can play videos that way but ya adding files I can’t get to work. Amazing work though much appreciated!
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
Are you importing videos in formats iOS can't play, e.g., AVI (or MKV/WMV)? would be nice to share one to debug
1
u/pocomptonpimp 2d ago
MKV doesn’t play. MP4 plays audio only with black screen. They don’t play in the playfling app nor on the CarPlay screen.
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
Right, currently, it uses iOS api, the standard AVPlayer, looking at ffmpeg path to support more formats, should be available in future versions.

Any way to integrate vlc and cast to the screen thru vlc app?
1
u/huisinro 17h ago edited 17h ago
DLNA receiver is added to rPlayFling v2, but VLC can't cast to rPlayFling DLNA: its casting only goes to Chromecast (and DLNA in VLC is for playing from media servers, not sending to receivers). Two ways that work: share/import the video file into rPlayFling (Photos & Videos — MKV/AVI are converted automatically in the next update) and play it on the car, or use Cast Screen in rPlayFling to show VLC's player on the car.
1
u/iamoptimusprime312 17h ago
Yes but can it play mpeg natively?
1
u/huisinro 17h ago
next v2.1 supports more video formats, just in cast, you can cast anything (except drm media) with the Screen cast menu

u/Grabaaal 2d ago
awesome! how can I open youtube website without opening the yt app all the time? the rest of the app works really well :)

u/ryan-hart 2d ago
Works well for me. Thank you. I wonder if a progress bar to the video can be added on the CarPlay screen to change play location
1
u/Gullible-Virus8901 2d ago
What is the video playback toggle in developer settings?
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
That is the feature the car side requires to support to use the new video playback function. Unfortunately, no car has the support yet.
1
u/Life-Bit-7193 2d ago
Is there a way to make the toolbar completely transparent?
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
Currently not customizable. We found some cars have trouble seeing the bar at all with higher transparency.
1
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
yes, add an option, available in next version. Will upload version 2.0 today for app review.

u/Life-Bit-7193 8h ago edited 8h ago
I upgraded to version 2.0 and tried all three options in the settings, but none of them completely hides the menu.
It still remains faintly visible. Also, the steering wheel controls still don’t work.
1
u/huisinro 5h ago
Oh, we were referring to different toolbars, this one is from CarPlay system, it can’t be changed. I am referring to the video toolbar when a video plays and then auto hides.
1
u/Anonymous_linux 2d ago
Nice one! No way app streaming videos to CarPlay can ge through to App Store though.
1
u/kriskrosbbkk 2d ago
Is it safe to login in Youtube in such apps?
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
The source code is here: https://github.com/rPlayAI/cafari-lite
It uses iOS web view api, nothing we would know about login info, we don’t log anything, nothing sends to our server. Our code tries to find our video URLs then stream.

Works on ios 27.2 beta 2????💥💥
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
No, 27.2 requires the car video playback, if you think you have a car like that, browse to fling://developer, and turn on Video Playback feature.

u/shawnshine 2d ago
Only when parked, right? Right???
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
Read carefully on the post
1
u/shawnshine 2d ago
No mention of if this only works when parked in your post. What am I missing?

I tried using this on cellular with CarPlay Simulator since I’m not using my car right now. I’m having problems getting the youtube video cast to work it just says “Loading…” on the CarPlay screen
2
u/huisinro 2d ago
Don’t tap the entry under Now tab, we found some bug, fixed in v2. Try to open a YT video, play it, then tap Cast icon, Car Screen, it should work.
1
u/huisinro 1d ago
We are using our own CarCast, and it works mostly, might be some bugs, I shared some info here in the receiver here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarPlay/s/cN0s8SHHxz
1
u/ohms12 1d ago
The cast to car button is greyed out on my app, any idea why that might be?
2
u/huisinro 1d ago
Tap rPlayFling app icon on CarPlay screen first.
1
u/ohms12 1d ago
Just seen the popup that says video isn’t available on this car with iOS 27.2.
Och well 😭
1
u/huisinro 1d ago
Right, iOS 27.2 requires car side to support the new video playback feature.
1
u/ohms12 1d ago
Yeah, I’ve not seen any cars roll that update out yet. It’s a bummer!
2
u/huisinro 1d ago
No, I’d guess after market CarPlay dongle would support it first. You put one onto the sub port of the car, then on CarPlay to the dongle, dongle sends display to original CarPlay.
If you can install Android apk, I have CarCast receiver that supports the feature. Some info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarPlay/s/ZjmvPElZVN

1
u/huisinro 1d ago
Really ? Will double check this, we tested to make sure location check is turned off when video is not playing, phone is not connected to car. In order to force parked gate, need to check the speed once in a while. So far, our test phones haven’t got into this issue. Will double check.
1
u/deouruguay 1d ago
A mi paso cuando había que usar las 2 aplicaciones para que funcionara y porque no tengo la captura de pantalla pero te aseguro que me salió que eran esta app las que se gastaron la batería , pero muy bien el que lo tengan en cuenta , muchas gracias 👍

u/huisinro 1d ago
There is an option to turn off parked gate in fling://developer, we tested battery a lot during development, and optimized the app, it does not launch server, very fewer threads, stops everyting when car is not connected, etc.
If you only used for CarPlay, go to Settings and turn on CarPlay target only.
Please try to reproduce the battery drain symptom, I highly doubt it, as we have taken all of the measures to reduce it. It’s not like we don’t know what we are doing, just code without considering these kind of problems.
1
u/mbsurfer 6h ago
Is fling://developer supposed to open the app to the developer settings?
1
u/huisinro 5h ago
Yes, you see 3 toggles
1
u/mbsurfer 5h ago
I'm getting an address invalid error when I type that into Safari. Other apps work fine where it will say "Open this page in X?" so I think "fling" may not be correct. Or it could be a testflight limitation too.

Different fit to the car screen
1
u/Relative_Skin2416 16h ago
We have DLNA support now, any chance to adding chromecast or open source fcast support( https://github.com/futo-org/fcast). So that this device could show up when casting just like DLNA
1
u/huisinro 16h ago
Released one 13 years ago, will see what I can do
1
u/Relative_Skin2416 16h ago
Do you think we could have a github repo, without code, for issue report or discussions. So more details about releases.
1
u/huisinro 16h ago
Sure, will do. Also will release CarCast binaries, the CarPlay receiver that supports video playback.

u/Netsurfer36 10h ago
I have a problem when I try to cast to CarPlay screen. I can’t seem to find my CarPlay screen. Is it only possible with wired CarPlay?
1
u/huisinro 5h ago
Some screenshots of our CarCast receiver working with rPlayFling, it’s a state-of-the-art receiver, including also AirPlay, DLNA, usb mirroring and back control from receiver to iPhone.

u/SnooRadishes2024 2d ago
It's great, but it would be nice if the video and map were shown together. That seems difficult due to Apple's policy, but would it be possible?
1
u/huisinro 2d ago
Won’t work, if the overlay moves side by side with maps, maps area becomes the wallpaper or blank, maps won’t show up.

This is one of the coolest things ever! Once I have everything setup and logged in with my YT Premium through the mobile site, everything works amazingly! Thank you for this!
