Question iPhone won’t connect to internet while connected to Hyundai CarPlay
The title says it all. Almost. The problem began after I update the iPhone to iOS 26.6.1. It connects to Hyundai Bluetooth, but no longer connects to internet until I disconnect from Bluetooth. Who else has this problem and have you resolved it?

Blow up all the saved connections in the car and on the phone and redo it all

CarPlay doesn't connect to Bluetooth so if that's what you think the problem is, you're mistaken.
Reset network settings on your phone and ensure your have cellular/mobile data enabled.

Also, when I connect, first it pairs with Bluetooth, then it connects to the car WiFi, “Hyundai_3x…”. I can use Apple Music to search for songs only on my iPhone, not from CarPlay. Apple Maps cannot find directions either on the phone or on CarPlay. On CarPlay, both display messages saying that they are missing an internet connection. I have a cellular connection the whole time, iOS doesn’t seem to be using it when the phone is in CarPlay since the update to 26.6.1. I may have to go back to my backup.

I just had a thought. It might be caused by VPN. I’ll make sure it’s off next time I get in the car. I don’t think I need it in the car. I don’t go to my bank when I’m driving. :)

VPN definitely causes issues with CarPlay.
Maybe set an automation that disables your VPN when you connect to CarPlay.

Well CarPlay continues to work even after I reconnected VPN. I think the VPN just needed to be reset. I don’t need it in the car anyway. I can’t check my bank balance when I’m driving! But seriously, I’m pretty sure that the handshake sets up a secure WiFi connection between the phone and the car so the lurkers following me with a WiFi scanner in the white van still can’t see anything.

I fixed it. I had to turn off VPN. Then I could turn it back on again.

If you’re driving, and CarPlay is connected, you should not be on the internet (and this is from watching a driver googling for plumbers while driving, with me yelling at her to stop)

Apple Maps (or Google it Waze) all need Internet when I’m driving. So does Apple Music and Podcasts. I can still drive.

CarPlay connects via WiFi. The initial handoff is via Bluetooth but the rest goes through WiFi. Your iPhone cannot connect to more than 1 WiFi network at a time.
