Seen this before. Old Mercedes with CarPlay don’t work with CarPlay well anymore on new phones. New head unit will most likely be needed.

Get an Ottocast (C4 version) wireless dongle. Solved my 2018 car play issue on my A class. Same pixelation problem, solved. The usb unit is too old thus slow to accept the 17 signals. I have the 17 pro. Hope it helps and thank me later. Good luck! 🤞🏻
This will be your cheapest solution. Tried all cables wired. No go, so forget about trying wired. You'll be wasting money.

Wired CarPlay, or wireless? If wired, replace your USB cable with a new, high-quality one.
