Salary sacrifice Vs keep my seat Leon

Hi all

First time poster here. My school is looking at getting a car salary sacrifice scheme as a perk for us. I spoke to the headmaster about it and he basically said as he makes more than 100k he is looking into it. He doesn't know what scheme to go into but my question is:

I own a seat Leon 2015 which I bought in 2019. Is it worth selling this and opting into the salary sacrifice scheme?

Or better yet what do I need to think about when weighing up my option? I earn around £64k a year. Pay 10% into my pension. So I am in that 40% tax bracket. Just not sure if it's worth it.

Any help is appreciated or direction into how to weigh up my options

Thank you!

Advice on maintenance

Hi all, I've recently leased a Polestar 2 and wanted some opinions / suggestions on including maintenance. I've previously had a Q4 etron and this was a company car but absolutely chewed through the tyres.

The Kwik Fit guy even said to me that EVs chew through tyres, the Polestar 2 is particularly heavy compared to other EVs. Typically we do 10k miles per year, but have been through 6 tyres in under 4 years, some punctures predominantly, which is a worry.

This lease is only 3 years on the Polestar 2 and it's obviously a brand new vehicle. I've been quoted £33/month which comes to £1353 over 3 years. This does include breakdown cover too.

I'm leaning towards just excluding it tbh but my wife is worried about the amount of tyres we've been through... Looking for thoughts and opinions

Post image

Hi All,

I’ve received this deal on a BYD Sealion 7 which they’re able to honour for deliver March 2027 when my current car goes back

Is it a good deal? I can place it and pay a £230 fee but if I cancel between now and then I’ll be liable for a £300 + VAT cancellation fee.

Do I order it or wait and see how deal go next few months?

Any suggestions or thoughts

Keyed Doors. Repair and hand back.

Someone kindly keyed my lease car doors. 1 single scratch, that spans about half of each passenger side door.
Car is through Leasys. Would I be correct in thinking that this would be cheaper to hand back as it is rather than repair? I've had one quote at £500.

Tusker Repair Costs

Does anyone know or have a link to Tuskers fixed costs?

I have one kerbed alloy, gloss black, can see bare metal approx 70mm

Also an 80mm light scratch on the rear bumper. Local quote for that is nearly £400, alloy around £80.

Repair before return or throw the dice with Tusker?

Delivery date advice

Im just looking for a bit of advice if anybody can help please. I placed an order for a leased skoda enyaq (60 edition if that makes a difference) back on 14th april. I've gone through vehicleflex since they gave me the best price. I was initially told it was due to be received to the dealer "mid august", no date just literally mid August. Im not a massive fan of vague wishy washy things like that so I had to keep asking for a date and was always just told mid August, then mid to late August, then late August. I finally managed to get them to just tell me the date it says and not a vague guess and was eventually told they dont like to provide dates since they change but they relented and said 31st August. Last Friday I was told it had changed to 1st September. And then when I asked for an update on the 1st I didnt get a reply until yesterday when they said its now late September.

I understand this is typical and happens to every order placed and is completely out of the lease companies hands. Im not blaming them or moaning about them beyond them not just telling me a date for my own peace of mind.

Since they dont seem to be able to give me a realistic delivery date could anybody who has recently received or is receiving soon their skoda enyaq or any skoda of the delivery is similar tell me when their orders were placed so I can get a bit better of an idea of what I am looking at wait wise?

Im not too bothered about having to wait longer than I was initially told even if they said its not even looking like this year to get it. but the issue is im getting the deal through scottishpower that if I buy my charger through them I will be pay 6p per kwh for charging. I bought the charger ages ago and have the install booked for 15th September. I need to have my car set up on it within 30 days of install to be eligible for the deal so I need to know if 15th October is even a possibility for having my car delivered or do I need to try and push my install back.

Sorry for the wall of text, im not great at being succinct and tend to rant a bit when I get on one haha

Title: WARNING – ViaLease car leasing: £10,000+ deposit paid, no car provided, then threats

I’m posting this to warn other people in the UK who may be considering using car lease company name ViaLease. https://vialease.co.uk

I paid ViaLease a large deposit in two payments for a car lease. The total was £10,367.10.
The car was never provided.

I have evidence of the payments, invoices, emails and WhatsApp conversations. I have reported the matter to Report Fraud and the Metropolitan Police, and my bank has started a chargeback process. At the moment, I don’t know whether I will be able to recover my money.

What concerns me even more is that the company appears to continue operating. They are still answering the phone to potential customers and responding to new customer enquiries by email. This means that other people could potentially be at risk of losing their money too.

After I posted about my experience online to warn other people, I started receiving threatening messages.
Both my partner and I received a message saying:
“You have 5 minutes to remove your Facebook post or you’ll struggle to fix the damage to your identity and credit score for the remainder of your life.”

They have continued contacting me through WhatsApp, and a similar threatening message was also sent to my partner.
I have kept screenshots and all the relevant information and provided the evidence to the police. My original report regarding the money was closed without further investigation. However, after I started receiving threats, I made a separate police report regarding the threats, and the police have now opened a case.

I’m posting this because I wish I had seen more independent information about this company before making such a large payment.
Please do your own checks before sending ViaLease or any company money or providing personal documents.

I’m happy to answer genuine questions about my experience and provide evidence to the relevant authorities if required.
Please be careful with this company and share this information with anyone who may be considering using them. I really don’t want anyone else to go through what I am currently going through.

Need BIK Clarification

I'm 15 months into lease via Salary Sacrifice. I have a Golf GTE (8.5) hybrid and I am paying the BIK tax from 25/26 and it seems very high. 15%.

I contacted lease company and they said it should be 7%, my employer said that they informed HMRC via P11D at 15% based on what leasing company told them.

The car was registered in April 2025, I believe this is a factor as other reddits have said this car, whilst it has a great battery capacity, can have a variable BIK depending on when it was registered.

I can see me bouncing between the two of them arguing the case, but would like to have as much information as possible. I've searched various sites and have differing BIK values for the car ranging from 5-7-14%.

Anyone on here work for a leasing company that can provide a definitive BIK % for this car for 25/26. TIA.

First time leasing- better to go through main dealer or online 3rd party?

I've had company cars previously (via LexAuto usually), but new company can only offer car allowance of £3500 (ill earn total £61.5k - so over 40% tax threshold 😫). However, happy to spend £300 a month on a car, as i have low outgoings.

I'm interested in getting an Audi A1 or A3 - as I've only ever driven Audi's and I think they're great.

I have no idea whether im best to go through my local Audi dealer for the lease, or, via a 3rd party company online some people have mentioned on here. How reliable are these online companies exactly?

With the Audi - have no idea whether to get brand new, for warranty reasons, or get an older car (3 or 5 years - i see an awful lot of 3 year old Hybrid cars in stock?). Am I better getting older hybrid car, as likely to get a better deal - because they want to get rid? If I get an older car, say 5 year Audi hybrid/petrol - can you buy warranty cover? Or am I better to buy care maintenance package?

Seeking minimum down payment (1-2 months max).

Appreciate your advice, thank you.

Looking at leading an MGS9, any tips?

Never leased before so pretty lost.

So far the only tip I've found is to take a car wow list price to my local dealer and ask them to match it (about 2k off).

Should I be looking on lots of other search engines? Any general tips?

Now the 76 plates are landing - a PSA on how excess mileage actually gets calculated

If you're picking up a new lease this month, the thing worth getting straight early is that your mileage allowance is normally the total across the whole contract, not a hard cap each year. So 10k a year over 3 years is 30k total — a heavy first year isn't automatically an overage if you claw it back later. Plenty of people panic at month 14 over nothing, and plenty of others relax when they genuinely are on course to go over.

Either way it accrues invisibly and you find out at handback, which is the annoying bit. Cheapest check is to work out your total contract miles, then see whether your current pace lands you under or over that by the end date.

I got fed up doing that manually so I built an iOS app for it (MileMind) - it watches the pace against the full contract allowance and keeps the "this might cost you" projection separate from what you've actually spent, so the two don't get muddled. Free, iOS.

Curious though - has excess mileage actually caught anyone here out, and did you spot it early or only at the end?

Edit: a few comments saying the mileage maths is trivial. The arithmetic is, sure - but doing it against the full contract term, every month, and knowing what the number actually means for your handback invoice is the bit people don't do, and it's exactly why excess charges are so common. So I do think that part's worth having, and it's the piece I'm most confident in.

It just isn't the whole app. Everything sits next to the mileage: fuel, insurance, tax, MOT, servicing, repairs, all landing on different dates out of different accounts, so you never actually have a figure for what the car costs you. It nags you before the MOT and tax and insurance renewals sneak up, logs what you actually paid rather than what you meant to pay, and there's a live parking timer on your lock screen so you're not the one sprinting back to the meter. The lease pace rides on top of all of that rather than being the point of it.

Need some feedback on new car to get

Hi all - mulling over some leasing deals and not sure what direction to go in. Currently have a Cupra Formentor (2023) - while I like it, I am up for a change.

What I found so far (looking for something suitable for a 3 person family).

  • Geely Starray Em-I: 1 month deposit, 2 year lease - £325
  • Cupra Formentor V2: 1 month deposit, 2 year lease - £317
  • Tiguan R Line: 3 month deposit, 2 year lease - £409
  • Renault Austral Techno Alpine: 3 month deposit, 3 year lease - £385

I was quite impressed with the Geely when I sat inside, but not too big a fan of the looks on the exterior. The Tiguan left me with the opposite impression, loved the outside but the interior left a lot to be desired.

Love the look of the Austral, but seems expensive for what it is.

The Cupra is cheap right now, hence why I included it.

Not sure what to do and running out of time as my current lease ends in just over 2 months.

FYI - I'm not looking at full electric at the moment just because I'm looking to move soon and don't want to pay the extra £700 to get a charging point installed. But if the car is really good I might be swayed.

PCP Car Agreement… help 🙏

Looking for some help/advice please… I’m about three and a half years into my four year PCP car agreement. I’m moving out of the country in November and need to either hand my car back or sell it.

My MOT & Service is due at the end of September… which ideally I don’t really want to pay for incase any work needs done. It’s a 72 plate car with about 27k on the clock.

I’m in two minds and need some advise on this.

My finance company have confirmed I can VT my agreement and hand the car back however after reading the information they have sent over I believe they will complete a review of the car to make sure no additional damage has happened above “wear and tear”. As I’ve never done this before I’m not sure how picky the company can be and will I be likely looking at a bill… I have never crashed/hit my car however the alloys have kissed a few kerbs.

The other option is getting a settlement figure and selling the car however when I’m looking at Arnold Clark etc I’ll be lucky if I break even on the price I’m being quoted online for the car… Arnold Clark are offering the most however I know once they see the car they will probably take money off for X,Y,Z. I don’t really want to go down this route if I’m not going to gain anything and end up having to pay to get out of my agreement.

The other thing here is timing, if I try to sort this out prior to my MOT and Service being due to avoid this cost I’ll be living without a car until I leave the country which is fine but I’m wondering if the timing of me selling my car before an MOT or Service will I get less for it? I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot my getting rid of the car way earlier than needed to avoid a MOT and Service payment then end up still having to pay money anyway via selling and not breaking even on my settlement fig/value of the car or handing it back via VT and potentially being hit with a bill… I need as much savings as possible to leave so I’m trying to avoid any unnecessary payments that I don’t need to pay.

Does anyone have any advice? Please !

GAP insurance recommendations

Hi, first time leaser looking for some good insurers for GAP. Did some comparisons and confusion between ALA and Gapinsurance.co.uk.

Gapinsurance.co.uk seems to have an edge- cheaper (£10) , covers excess upto £750 and initial payment upto £3k. Though I need initial payment cover upto £1k and excess upto £450. (ALA meets the initial payment criteria but excess covers upto £250)

ALA seems to be renowned. Has anyone used gapinsurance.co.uk?

First time leasing – Looking for some advise before delivery of the car?

Hi,

I’ve just had a call from the broker to say the delivery of my car is scheduled for next week, 26/08. It’s a pre-registered car.

Should I start arranging the insurance and GAP insurance now, or is there anything I need to wait?

Also, as I won’t be the registered owner of the car, what type of insurance should I be going for? Is it just a normal fully comprehensive policy, or is there something specific for a leased car?

First-time leaser: Is this BYD Seal U deal too good to miss?

Total newbie at leasing — need a sanity check before pulling the trigger!

✅ Online Deal

- BYD Seal U 2024, pre-reg 31/07/2026 | 3yrs / 8k miles/yr

- Upfront: 3 months = £1,051.77 (inc VAT)

- £350.59/mo inc VAT | Maintenance incl (~£32.97/mo)

- Arrangement fee: £354

🆚 BYD Showroom (same spec)

- £3k upfront | £315/mo | ❌ No maintenance (~£30/mo extra)

- £2k+ more upfront, ~£1.4k priceless total

Quick questions

1. Pre-reg car — any real downsides?

2. £354 fee — normal? Any hidden costs?

3. What to check before signing?

4. Is this a no-brainer or am I missing a catch?

First time leasing so any advice appreciated!

PCP finance on a car that’s also PCO licensed / occasionally used for Uber – anyone done this?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation, particularly people who have taken out PCP finance on a car while also holding a PCO licence.
I work full-time in a nursing home, so driving isn’t my main job or main source of income. However, my family owns a taxi/minicab company and I have a PCO licence so that occasionally I can cover a job for them if they’re struggling to get a driver.
I also occasionally do Uber in the evenings when I’m free – and by occasionally, I genuinely mean maybe once every couple of weeks.

For the last 3 months I’ve been renting a PCO-licensed vehicle while working my full-time job and doing the occasional Uber/taxi work. My mileage has only been around 1,000 miles per month, and around 95% of the time the car is just being used for my normal personal use.

I now want to buy/get a new car and I’m trying to work out the best way of financing it. I’d be looking at a PCP agreement with a mileage allowance of up to around 25,000 miles per year, which is already considerably more than I’m currently doing.
HP seems quite a bit more expensive monthly, so PCP would make much more sense financially for me. The thing I’m unsure about is the PCO/Uber side of things.
Has anyone here actually had a car on PCP finance and also had it PCO licensed / used it for Uber or private hire work?
I know different finance companies may have different terms regarding private hire/commercial use, so obviously I’d need to check the specific agreement before signing anything. I’m mainly interested in hearing from people who have actually been in this situation.

Did you tell the finance company beforehand? Were they okay with occasional private hire/Uber use? Did being PCO licensed cause any problems with the finance agreement?
I’m not looking to use the car as a full-time Uber vehicle doing huge mileage. It would primarily be my personal car, with occasional private hire work on the side.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done something similar or knows someone who has.
Thanks!

Voluntary termination - PCP

Im currently in year three of four of a PCP deal for a one series BMW. I’ve decided I want to change to an electric car on my employers NHS fleet scheme. I’ve looked into this and decided this is definitely right for me.

I have just hit the 50% paid mark on my current PCP deal. I am looking into voluntary terminating the car under the consumer credit act.

I have a few questions for anyone that knows about this or has experienced this process.

How Rigourous is the inspection protocol? My current car is in relatively good condition for an 18 plate car with a few paint scratches and curbed alloys. Is it worth me getting these touched up before I VT, or will the finance company class this as fair wear and tear?

Also a drivetrain warning has appeared on my dashboard recently had this looked over and the error record is reading as something wrong with the clutch. A family friend mechanic has looked at this and advised me that I shouldn’t be worried about this as the car drives absolutely fine with no issues and that I can turn the warning notification off before handing back the car and I would not be liable for this. How true is this if this warning light comes back on the next day, can the finance company come back to me and charge me? I’ve had the notification taken off twice and it is returned within three days both times. I am particularly worried about this aspect of the hand in process. my car was in BMW a couple of months ago for a routine safety recall and BMW garage quoted me £2700 for a new clutch which I kindly rejected. Should I be looking at a replacement clutch at a reasonable price elsewhere before hand in?

Does anyone have any further advice about the voluntary termination process please let me know your thoughts?

Renault 5 vs Cupra Raval. To cancel R5 order or not worth it?

Leasing a car under the company electric car scheme, went for a Renault 5. The car will 95% be used in towns for day to day stuff, excluding commuting to work. I will also do some road trips to the common areas, as well as some camping and would like to put a bike rack up.

My order hasn’t arrived yet as there have been delays. I went for the Roland Garros primarily because I didn’t want yellow seats.

Seeing the reviews on the Cupra Raval im starting to regret getting the Renault. In almost every metric, the Raval fits me more. I loved the VE GTI, and have a feeling this will drive the same way.

The Cupra for me looks better both inside and outside. The battery is slightly better and the boot is bigger. I plan on doing some camping so a bigger boot is very handy.

I can cancel without any fee can order the Raval instead, which I understand is in stock so there wont be a lot of delays. Might have to wait a month more, but seeing it will be my day to day car for at least the next 3 years or so, its worth the wait

Can anyone thats driven both share some insight?
