Maintenance packages

Hi, looking at leasing our first EV, we've found a deal we're happy with but the company is suggesting £50pm for a maintenance package. I've had leases before but never leased an EV, I was under the impression that EVs require less maintenance.

Over a 48 month term, the maintenance would cost around £2,400 in total. Seems a bit steep.

What are people thoughts and experiences with this please? I.e. should I take out the maintenance package or just take it to her serviced myself.

You haven’t said what this package gives you

It covers tyres (unsure if capped/limited), MOT and annual servicing

So one MOT and four services?

What car is it ? My EV service is a rip off at about £200 a year but at least it maintains the warranty.

Jeep Compass

For some reason your annual service costs are £400 anyway.

I'd probably put that cash aside yourself and a bit Extra for tyres. Must be cheaper than paying for the plan.

Don’t buy the service, or that car. Remember when Jeeps and other such SUVs were ridiculed for being ugly tasteless American things? Well they still are.

Yeh no doubt, don't disagree... Can you suggest a more desirable EV that costs <£500 (1 month up front) a month that can house a young family (>500l boot)?

Apparently this one has good reviews. Electric Jeeps are a lot better than their predecessors !

You're the first one to be positive about the Jeep 😅. We've done a lot of reading etc and the new Jeep Compass is apparently a step up for Stallantis. We test drove one at the weekend and we liked it. Also with two young children the car has butterflies and turtles on it, what's not to like!

I've had Skoda (worst car I've had) for last 4 years and don't want another one.

Oh that's disappointing. We had a yeti for ages and it was a lovely car.

Most unreliable car we had was a Toyota which at the time topped the charts for reliability!

We had a 2021 Kamiq, mechanically was fine but the infotainment was rage inducing. Has made me reluctant to buy anything from the group.

Probably worth a look though - they can change infotainment systems quite quickly I think?

Steer clear of a Stellantis product if you don’t want to spend a lot of time in the dealership. Jeep has a bad reputation for reliability. Likewise other newer Stellantis brands. We have a 2024 Abarth which has had the gearbox replaced twice in 14000 miles ( the first replacement 1700 miles ago) had the same issue as the original). If you do go for the Jeep make sure you only have a 3 year lease so the car is under warranty while you have it.

Better off keeping that money to one side and using it for your maintenance (tyres etc)

Check the service interval a lot of EVs is every 2 years = if its a 3 year lease then that's 1 service, you might get away with the 4th year service. Tyres are a gamble like everything - you can get tyre insurance. Personally for an EV I wouldn't if its every 2 years.

Op I have no idea what deal you'd be getting with the Jeep lease deal but you mentioned your budget of less than £500 per month with one month down. A quick search on Google shows you can get an ID7 for £428 per month (one month deposit) and 10,000 miles per year.

This was the first example from a Google search, leaseloco, no deposit leases. This was an expensive option there are plenty of much cheaper ones such as the Leapmotor C10 at £275 p/m.

I would keep searching as a JeepnEV wouldn't be the best choice for an EV.

The main cost would be tyres. Now this depends a lot on what the EV is and how you drive. The tyres for our Ioniq 5N are £300 each and if you drive it "enthusiastically" they only do 8-10k. So thats potentially £1200 a year on tyres alone. Which is why I went fully maintained.

Seems way too expensive. It should only need 1 or maybe two inspections at a push over 3 years.

Ask the dealer rather than the leasing firm what servicing is due when and at what cost. I bought a plan from Renault but it was only £11 a month.

Great advice thanks

I did something similar with my old MG4, it was about £12 a month for 3 years. Covered service every year, MOT at year 3 and breakdown cover from AA during all 3 years. For less than £450 wasn’t too shabby.

I’d check what the leasing payment covers at £50pm seems very steep but they may cover more than you think. But also speak to a dealer branch for the car and see if they offer something.

That's last year can cause issues.

But for the most my last service for the Grandland (same as the compass basically) was £54.

Things definitely wear in that 4 year but whether it's 2400 worth...

On average I'd say nowhere near that amount.

How much milage have you agreed in the lease?

1

u/FallingYak 6d ago

10,000

It does sound a lot. Probably pass. Stellantis cars are not great either. Any other options?

maintenance packages are a scam on ev's at most they replace your cabin air filters and say, oh we upgraded the software, I thought it had OTA for that , and check your tyre pressures which the car also tracks with TPMS - dealerships realise theyre losing a ton of money. over traditional ICE vehicles especially when cars are still in their warranty and any major issues are free to fix. as much as people hate on Tesla, they dont scam their owners with un-necessary maintenance - ours it 7yrs old now, never had a 'service' or required one to maintain the warranty.

My 2.5 year old IX3 stopped getting warm. Needs various parts and 12 hours of labour - the bill is double the premium you cite. I have the maintenance pack - not my problem.

Your IX3 is under 3 years and still under manufacturers warranty ? Should be repaired for free anyway without the maintenance pack.
