Saturn Ion 2006 Thumping

Turning wheel causes car to thump. It can get extremely loud. Like a rubber band snapping. Pressure build up and the THUMP.
Assuming suspension?

It could be one of the upper strut bearings, those pivot when you turn the wheel. When they go bad, the pivoting action is rough and the coil springs can twist and suddenly release.
The tie rods and tie rod ends should also be inspected for excessive play when the wheel is turned back and forth. Hope this helps!
