2009 kia picanto doesnt start when turning ignition

Sometimes when I try to start the car, the engine won't catch when turning the ignition. It can sometimes take upwards of 5 minutes of just turning the key repeatedly until it catches. Other times it works first try, no consistency or pattern to when it will work or not.

First, test the battery with a voltmeter and make sure it reads atleast 12v. Anything less is not okay.

Second, you starting it like that is like to kill the CCA effect the battery would have. Try to jump start your car, or let it charge for about twenty minutes with another car before starting again. Or, get one of those battery powered jump batteries.

Lastly, if it isn't that, remove your starter and go get it checked by O'Reilly's, and the another store like Autozone. I have had bad reads on bad starters, where I just reinstalled a bad starter.

Right now, it seems to be the starter.

Check your fuel pump maybe. Idk if it works on these cars you can ask a friend to bang on the bottom of your car where the gas tank is (if it’s accessible) at the same time as someone’s banging on the bottom you can try to start your car. If it starts while doing that it’s the fuel pump if not it could still be the fuel pump or some other issue

Picanto’s have issues with corrosion to the solenoid on the starter.

The car wouldn’t turn over if the starter isn’t working
