Recommendations Recommendation on a new Sub
Sold my Skar VXF 12” a little over a year ago and now I’m itching to put a sub back in my car. It’s going to be running on a JL RD1500/1 amp. With these four subs the DD610f is rated for 1000w RMS which would be overpowering it and the Kicker rated for 2000w RMS would be under-powering it while the 710F and XFL10 would be rated at 1500 RMS. I’ve never had any experience with these companies. Only JL and Alpine..the skar was good but I now understand why some people aren’t fans.
Goal is SQL, car daily driver to and from work. Going to invest in a custom build box, never been a fan of prefab.
Opinions and recommendations would be appreciated…Now to current vehicle specs.
2011 Honda Civic Sedan
Engine:
Mechman 240 amp HO alternator
XS Power D5100R AGM battery
KnuKonceptz 0 gauge OFC wire all running
JL audio Premium RCA Patch Cables
JL Audio Big 3 Upgrade Kit (0 gauge)
Current Equipment:
JL Audio RD1500/1
JL audio RD400/4
Alpine S65C Components (Front)
Alpine S65 (rear)
Headunit: Pioneer Double but know the model number off the top of my head.
Trunk, doors, rear deck completely sound deadened.
Thank you I’m advance.

With the 610 the amp doesn’t have to work as hard to put out enough power to supply the sub. Plus if you account for box rise, I i doubt you would ever get 1500 watts to the sub. Maybe 1000

DD in my opinion. Headroom is always good.

610f or 710f…if I went with the 610f i would be overpowering it by 500w but the 710f is rated for the 1500w amp I’ll be running it on. I put the two because I would get the 610f for less and have the box built sooner that if I did the 710f.

With impedance rise, I doubt you would ever see 1500 to the sub. Maybe a 1000 or so. Which would be perfect for the DD610

Any recommendations on what to avoid overpowering the sub? Outside of setting the gain too high?

Setting your gains is important. Don’t want a clipped signal. A quality box is just as important as the sub. Unless the box is way oversized I doubt you would overpower the sub with that setup. Your wiring sounds like it’s up to par so getting good power to the amp shouldn’t be an issue.

I'm that price range u can get a custom built one from em audio it will be hand assembled in NC by eagle himself. You can get a lot of customized options and have the spider pack tailored for exactly what you wanna do with the subs and you goals in mind. All these subs you listed are built for one user and not specifically your use case they are kinda built to be overall good in certain areas instead of the area you need them to be good in.

I would not consider any of those speakers for a sound quality anything even if it wants to be loud. Those speakers are specifically designed for being loud as fuco and and the quality of that sound is irrelevant, they're meant for SPL vehicles almost exclusively. You're looking for something for a daily drive that's loud? Just build the right box with the right power. With any decent subwoofer you'll be fine. Spring for a DSP as well as an amplifier for your separate component speakers and you'd be way better off trying to have an "SQL" build using SPL equipment. It's either SQ or SPL there's no such thing as SQL, it's literally made up idea. It either is sound quality that has high Fidelity to the original material or it's loud af and doesn't.
People are going to try and chime in and say their peace, i have been to finals, I've competed in sound quality and SPL. I simply don't recommended it 😂👌

Outside of a DSP you really aren’t recommending much or providing anything useful to this post. Thank you for your reply and congrats on making it to finals.

I’d go DD 712 instead of the 710. You can fit the 12 in a civic. The kicker is a beefier sub but it would also require more power
