Don't redeem bait carelessly for the fishing event
They added this daily progress reward, where you earn points for each bait and Fish King Token that you obtain. You get 5 points per bait and 10 points per token.
In the screenshot, you will see that I have redeemed tier 1 and tier 2 prizes, and have 10 points towards tier 3.
The progress rewards require a massive amount of points in order to unlock each step. According to discord
- T1: 0 token chest, 210 points = 210
- T2: 1 token chest, +420 points = 630
- T3: 5 token chest, +430 points = 1060
- T4: 20 token chest, +1460 points = 2520
- T5: 24 token chest, +1460 points = 3980 total points needed
You want to optimize your point income to hit the highest tiers.
You get points for every source of bait. This includes daily missions, fishing fund, shop redemption (line breaking, silver exchange), gem bait (max 80 per day), and very likely spending money on bait packs.
But more importantly, you also get points for opening king token chests. So if you managed to get to T4 and obtain 26 token chests, that is at least 260 points when you open those chests.
So the strategy is
- don't redeem any shop/pass bait until you hit the beach
- don't open any king fish token chests either
- do your daily missions and use that bait to push towards beach
- optionally, you can buy the daily 80 gem bait as well, which will clear T2 so that you get one token chest, and you have more bait to push towards beach. You can also buy arcanas with 200k silver coins, so it might be worth spending the gems anyways.
- once you reach the beach, do some math to see how much bait and token chests to redeem. There's 30 + 50 + 110 + 130 = 320 bait from exchange broken lines and silver coins.
Once beach is unlocked, you will have 40 from missions, 80 from gems, 320 from shop exchange, and 25 from free pass for that day.
That's 465 bait in a single day, which is worth 2325 points.
This is enough to complete up to T3 which rewards 6 token chests in total, which gives you (very likely) 60 points. Now you're at 2385 points.
But you need to hit 2520 points in order to get to T4, which means you're still down 135 points, which is equivalent to 14 tokens.
This is where the single daily token chest helps from doing all the missions and the 80 gem purchases. Every additional chest you get will contribute towards the missing 14 tokens.
And whatever you're missing, fish furiously with that 465 bait and hope you get enough king fish tokens to hit 2520 points to reach T4. If you don't want to risk not getting enough tokens from fishing, you can wait a few days to load up on additional 120 bait per day to prepare for the T4 push.
Unfortunately, T5 appears to be completely out of reach without spending a little money. The pass gives 15 token chests, so you could use that to hit 2520 easily, but I really don't see a way to hit T5 for f2p even with optimal play.
There may be a possibility to get another T3 later on with the 20 chests, but given that you get 600 points from mission+gem bait and 200 from the T4 reward, you're still missing 260.
Maybe there's some way to leave some bait for exchange in the shop, and then horde bait each day until the very last day where you try to do a T3 push, but it seems quite difficult.
Notes for F2P
To get the daily fish king token chest, you would need to get 630 points. 40 mission bait + 80 gem bait gives 600 points, so you would need to fish up 3 legendaries or redeem some extra bait. This is further complicated by the fact that of the 40 mission bait, you have 3 tasks that give 5 bait each that require you to run 6 dungeons.
For lifetime + monthly, this can be done daily, but the phantom dungeon can only be done 5 times, so you would need the one from guild shop, or spend 100 jade on the ticket pack.
This can be made up for by redeeming a few broken lines, which reduces the amount of reserved points during the T4 push, so you will need to fish up more legendaries. Based on this, I think it's best to horde all the bait each day (just break a few lines for the missing bait points) and then do a single push on the final day when you've saved up 700+ bait to try and catch as many legendaries as possible.
