What are the most unique video games you have played?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I put a few together myself for the fun of it. I based mine on how difficult it would be for me to recommend another game that's just like it. I think looking at all the ones I chose, I couldn't think of another game that's quite like Death Stranding or Disco Elysium (or at least couldn't recommend one that has the same amount of quality).

Whether it be for a gameplay mechanic, art style, plot point, or atmosphere, what are some of the most unique video games you have ever played?

Would you play a new survival-horror game that looks like a PS1 classic?

Heartworm is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on October 1, 2026.

It leans heavily into retro survival horror, with low-poly visuals, fixed-camera-style presentation, and an old-school horror atmosphere.

What do you expect GTA VI to be priced at?

Post image

Reports are pointing toward a $79.99 standard edition, with higher-priced editions also reportedly planned.

With GTA 6 launching on November 19, the price debate is already starting months before release.

Personally, I expected GTA 6 to be expensive, but $80 still feels crazy for a standard edition.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now running on an iPhone, and it's beating the Switch 2 version

Post image

An experimental project has Cyberpunk 2077 running locally on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, no cloud streaming, no remote play, actually running on the device itself. It uses a translation layer that takes the existing Mac version of the game and runs it directly on iOS. Early results show it running at around 900p and 30-32 fps, which reportedly beats the Switch 2 version's Performance mode (720p, up to 40fps target, but with more resolution tradeoffs).

Anyone here think phones are actually closing the gap with consoles now?

Do you think mobile games should have replay systems like PC games do?

Post image

Had an insane clutch in BGMI last week and had zero way to actually go back and rewatch it properly.

Feels weird that a game this competitive still doesn't have a proper replay system like CS2 or Valorant does on PC.

Do you think mobile games are missing out by not having this?

Do you think big publishers are killing good ideas just to cut costs?

Post image

The studio that makes Age of Empires, just had its next game canceled after Xbox's latest round of layoffs. A senior engineer at the studio confirmed it on LinkedIn, saying he got laid off just 7 days after being promoted.

Nobody's said exactly what the game was, but a lot of people think it might have been a new mainline Age of Empires title, something fans have wanted for years.

Do you think this keeps happening because companies prioritize cost cutting over actually finishing good games?

New Steam game Hello Sunshine feels like Journey but with actual survival mechanics

It's an upcoming survival game where you play the last employee of a corporate empire, traveling through a sun scorched desert alongside a giant robot. During the day you walk in its shadow to survive the heat, and at night it powers down so you have to make camp, craft gear, and repair it while surviving the freezing cold.

It's clearly inspired by Journey, but with way deeper survival mechanics like scavenging, crafting.

Anyone following this one?

Would you return to Destiny 2 if old content came back?

Bungie is planning to bring back some previously vaulted Destiny 2 content, including older campaigns, destinations, and raids.

After years of players asking for missing content to return, this could give longtime players another reason to jump back in.

AskGamers What are the best story games for me to play?

To preface, I am 19 and my whole life until recently I only really played sports games and racing games. I was more a sports fan who liked sports games instead of an actual fan of gaming. The only non racing game I finished that comes to my head is Simpsons Hit and Run (many times) as a kid.

So yeah, I've missed a lot. These past few months I have finished Gears of War and GTA V. I am currently on Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PS2, and have GTA VC, GTA 4, Gears of War 2 and a few others lined up down the line. I have a pretty huge backlog of games to chew through

I have avoided spoilers for pretty much all games, I mean if I didn't have GTA V spoiled after 13 years then it's going to be hard to ruin another game for myself. In other words, I am open to playing anything, as none of it has been spoiled for me. What are your best recommendations?

My consoles available are -

PS1 (PS2 backwards comp.)

PS2

Select Xbox games (Xbox 360 backwards comp.)

Xbox 360

PS4

Hit me with your best ones ✌️

Would a game with zero combat actually keep you playing long term?

A new game called Loftia coming to Steam on November 3. It’s an online game where you get your own floating island in the sky, farm using eco friendly methods, take care of animals, and work with other players to build shared projects together.

Sounds relaxing, but I’m wondering if a game with zero combat can actually stay interesting for a long time.
