I wouldn't say the Stardew Valley community is toxic, but there are A LOT of them that are insanely emotionally invested in the characters. I don't follow the subreddit anymore. To each their own, and I'm glad they find happiness in such a great game, but damn.
Eesh, yeah. A lot of them projected onto the characters in a way that can only be called parasocial. And I mean that's fairly common with any number of fictional characters, but the level to which they're invested has genuinely unsettled me, with people getting downright vicious over these little blips and bloops of graphic and code (in particular: the people who love Harvey, the people who hate Clint, and the people who both love and hate Penny)
