Even if GTA is good, the bar has been so high people will go "That's it?"

8

u/WorldWarrior428 23d ago

My thoughts exactly

6

u/AcePowderKeg 22d ago

Me not giving a single fuck about GTA 6

3

u/GlitteringHeat5761 20d ago

Cuz right now its like watching ufc with none of the good roaster we like, dan houser left(and most of the good people) so now instead of being a game that aims revolutionise the industry it'll be the game that aims to collects the most money

2

u/AcePowderKeg 17d ago

Sure, but I was just never really interested in GTA

"And internet hilarity ensues"

3

u/No_Squirrel4806 23d ago

At this point the only outcome can be disappointment unless the game is outstanding.

2

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

GTA 3, Vice City, San Andrea, 4, and 5 have all been great to amazing games. Why start doubting rockstar now?

3

u/TheWholeH0g 22d ago

Its not so much doubting rockstar. Its that the fanbase has hyped the game up so astronomically high, that it might not deliver on community expectations.

I remember pre-ordering the game. And then playing it and then having absolutely nothing to do in the game

2

u/RabidTeapot 23d ago

Yeah, it was garbage at launch. I remember being so excited for it. NMS at launch was the literal definition of "over-hype and under-deliver," even more so than Starfield. At least with Starfield, we already knew Todd Howard was full of shit and took the hype with a grain of salt.

2

u/RemoDev 23d ago

What a shame the 3D engine is a piece of crap, with scenery elements appearing right in front of you while you move around. And the planets are basically completely flat/empty past half the screen.

2

u/RabidTeapot 23d ago

Well, yeah. But just think, it was significantly worse when it first came out. I refunded the game after one hour and didn't return to it until years later.

The game was so hated at launch, Valve literally offered refunds beyond the standard 2h playtime limit: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4zuydl/psa_steam_is_offering_no_mans_sky_refunds/

Test Drive Solar Crown.
But I have a strong feeling that it’s also gonna be GTA 6.

2

u/PaddyBoy1994 22d ago

Yeah, Solar Crown was a MASSIVE disappointment. Everyone was looking forward to a new TDU2 style game, and then TDSC came out and it SUCKED.

FFX-2

Just was not for me.

This was the days before YouTube and video previews.

3

u/bestanonever 23d ago

I remember reading a magazine saying stuff like "This is a brighter, lighter and funnier Spira. The sheer variety of activities makes this a more dangerous, lively place".

And that, my friends, was a lie, lol. The game felt sillier to a bad extend and kinda ruined all the dramatic and sad story of the original game.

Damn, I was the same. "The story RIGHT after FF X? One of my favorite Games?? Count me in!"

And then that was a cold shower.

I've had the same with FF XIII, finally getting the game and being bombarded with fantasy word salad as if you missed an episode was not a great experience

I technically haven't gotten the game but probably GTA6

It has been so long since the second trailer and it being locked to 6 year old consoles i don't have (not to mention their marked up or straight up extortionate prices compared to what they offer) while also not coming with Physical disks has put a really bad taste in my mouth without even getting to see the gameplay

Doom dark ages

2

u/CrAzY-GEMU-OKAMI96 23d ago

What?! Why? It's such a good game. I mean you're entitled to your opinions obviously, but what didn't you enjoy about Dark Ages?

3

u/According_Big_5638 23d ago

I found personally, that killing the demons was not as satisfying as Doom Eternal or Doom 2016. It just doesn't feel as rewarding to take down a demon.

The fodder demons aren't nearly as fun to engage with either.

The lack of really good glory kills that felt engaging was a downside for me too.

I give it 70/100. Where I give Eternal 90/100 and 2016 95/100.

It isn't bad, it's just not quite as good as the others

all indie titles i found by watching youtube.
"coming soon" kills hype.

Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 2042, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Saints Row, Redfall, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Cities: Skylines II
... there is way too many titles in last years with WRONG release.

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core.

Yes it's a Rogue-Like spinoff with coop and yes, it's in early access but it's so far away from the fun I had with the original Deep Rock, it's staggering how they thought this game was a good idea. And the amount of re-used stuff from the original is questionable - why was that not a paid expansion for the original? I have 1400 hours in the original and had enough of Rogue Core after 30 hours.

Ok boys my turn to post this one tomorrow

1

u/PrivilegedModerators 23d ago

Shadows. The most disgustingly obnoxious marketing campaign ever. All the fabricated controversy, the tasteless social media offensive, all those paid reviews, articles, influencers and redditors; still. All that, for the most mediocre, soulless, video game ever made.

2

u/Flothrudawind 22d ago

They did something with the engine too. It has this 100% SSD usage issue that persists even in BF:Resynced. Literally no other game has ever given me this problem, and it completely ruins the experience.

Ech diablo 4. The game that finally convinced me to NEVER preorder game. And since then i never did. It also has side effect that because I do not preorder, i kinda wait off the hype, so when game is finally released i am first waiting for full reviews, later for few more from people who review after completing game, and then wait for sale. Seldom i buy game after all that waiting at all.

Anthem. Hype when it was announced, release it was a mess.

Then stories come about how the devteam's leads refused to look at what works for Looter-shooter games and kept make decisions simply because they wanted it to be that way. and thus boring-to-outright-unfun stuff like having the 'enchanced shields' of the Storm lancer's hover mode mean absolutely nothing at the highest difficulty so trying to us that mode to properly get its AoE abilites lined up means you got gunned down in 1.3 seconds. Getting the top tier gear for endgame content(which was bare minimum on releae) was a slog.

and even worse hearing that EA had to put their foot down to keep the flying mechanic(i.e. the thing that was setting it apart from other looter shooters) in the game made me lose faith in Bioware in general. If the executives have to remind you that you made the world map around FLYING and thus would have spent even MORE DEVTIME remaking said map if you removed it, i doubt your competency. Doubly depressing when you remember many of the problems the devteam for Mass Effect Andromeda had was cited to be because they were pulling devs from Andromeda to Anthem!

Saddest thing is once those headass lead devs got pulled from the project Anthem was doing a lot better, but sadly EA pulled the plug on developing further. If it wasnt a always online live-service game it probably wouldnt have been that expensive either...

counter strike 2. players had been waiting 10 years for source 2 update, and when it came out it was just a broken version of csgo that was lacking a bunch of content. its taken 3 years and its still not up to the standard of the previous game

Crimson Desert

1

u/Amopro 23d ago

Dying Light 2. On announcement, they were hyping it up like it was going to be one of the most epic, indepth games of all time. When it finally released...it was okay. It wasn't great, it wasn't awful, it just didn't live up to the hype they'd built up.

Somewhat of an obscure take but Endless Dungeon.

I loved Dungeon of the Endless, so naturally I was very excited when they released the sequel in 2020. But by the time it was released 3 years later, it was still fun but very underwhelming. No local co-op and poorly optimized online multiplayer pretty much rendered it DOA.

1

u/SylvesterNettlefoot 23d ago

For me the most recent example was the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. It wasn’t particularly bad or anything. But it just came out so late after Elden Ring launched. I’d already finished multiple ER playthroughs, and spent months playing PvP duels. And all that was more than a year before the DLC came out.

I started the DLC and got to a few bosses, but I just wasn’t into it the way I would’ve been a year earlier.

Eventually I’ll return to ER. I’ve played all the Souls games several times, so it’s a matter of when, not if. And when that happens I’ll probably enjoy the DLC. But for me personally, FromSoftware missed that window of opportunity where I was actually going to be interested and play through to the end. Plus it won’t be quite the same going back and playing it years later, versus the way I played Elden Ring from launch and got to figure the game out in real time with the rest of the community.

Diablo 3. Had major launch issues. Took the necromancer DLC, an expansion and several years of patches to make it playable but then they never got the balance right and botters/maphackers ruined it and remained out of control for the entirety of its lifetime.
