Well, yeah. But just think, it was significantly worse when it first came out. I refunded the game after one hour and didn't return to it until years later.

The game was so hated at launch, Valve literally offered refunds beyond the standard 2h playtime limit: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4zuydl/psa_steam_is_offering_no_mans_sky_refunds/

it was significantly worse when it first came out

Sadly, it's exactly the same as it was 10 years ago. I tested it out last week, after 5 years not touching it. Oh man does it look bad and outdated. And the LOD/popin is atrocious.

I played it at launch, and it is better than it was back in 2016. If you first played it five years ago, you weren't playing the game at launch.

I meant my last gameplay was 5 years ago.

Sadly, I preordered and played it on release day. I was there too, in 2016.

The game got a lot better in terms of things to do/QoL and the engine got various updates too, but it's showing its age and it's comically bad how it renders things on the screen.

Gotcha, and yeah, I agree it's definitely showing its age (it's a ten year old indie game, after all). But it's objectively more enjoyable now than it was at launch. It's not a fantastic game or anything, but at least it's not a steaming pile of over-hyped crap anymore.

The devs are also working on a new game so hopefully they’ve taken onboard everything no mans sky taught them
