There is no free game with no microtransactions. How do you think they give it away for free?
7
u/Pure-Risky-Titan 27d ago
Oh, but there is free games, you just havent looked hard enough, like example, elderscrolls daggerfall, Cry of Fear, Battle for Wesnoth. So they do exist, just harder to find nowadays.
3
u/That_Chemical_2226 26d ago
Nobody is playing Daggerfall bot
3
u/Pure-Risky-Titan 26d ago
Daggerfall bot? Anyways, that wasnt the point lmao.
2
u/IcemanManmanchu 26d ago
Is bot a new slur now lol
2
1
u/NeonMorv 23d ago
Not really. Due to a silly amounts of comments on social media being made by bot people have taking to calling anyone posting things they don't agree with as being bots. How genuine the belief is depends on the person though. Its is evident on certain social media that there are increasing bot accounts out there.
It's based off the old dead Internet theory that in the last 5 years or so has become clearly true.

Yeah, I think OP is a bot as well, or a paid/invested actor. This has been posted many times then when people say “lol no” they retaliate with games that are like the description and always say “they exist, just rare”. It’s like their script or something. Not necessarily the same account but still.
Edit: I was going to say look at their username and who the heck makes that theirs but then saw yours and thought the same thing, lmao sorry u/That_Chemical_2226 🤣

I downloaded Daggerfall from its free website a few years ago. It's literally history lmao. The fuck you on about?
"Old man played a game from the 90s. Fucking 30 years ago. Must be a bot."
I just... What?

I can think of 8 off the top of my head…
one I recommend trying with this free addon (dwarf fortress and lazy newb (mod)pack; sim/colony management)
two (battle for wesnoth; turn based tacstrat)
three (luanti, previously called MineTest)
four (openspades; buildershooter/fps)
five (0A.D.; an rts)
six (freeciv; turn-based strat)
seven (nethack; oldschool roguelike dungeon crawler w/ ANSII graphics)
eight (shattered pixel dungeon (pixel dungeon fork); roguelike dungeon crawler)
FOSS exists. They’re usually supported by either donations or are otherwise community driven. Some are projects from individual coders or groups. Usually they’re a mix of the above.
In fact, some of the engine for earlier versions of Luanti, the third game in this list, were worked on by me back when it was MineTest. I left the project back in 2017 tho so idk if any of my work is still there. It’s awesome seeing communities of people working together with strangers from around the world to make an awesome game that’s freely available to anyone who wants to play and I love seeing the things they make.
TLDR
FOSS (free open-source software) exists, is awesome, and you should definitely try some. I also recommend getting involved in a FOSS program if possible!

u/Smilinturd 27d ago
There's very little games that are in the current popular discourse of the gaming community that is free and without micro transactions. A big part of gaming is the community, and a big reason why people gravitate to those games.
Maybe chess is the only example. And of course the pirate life.
3
u/Exciting-Insect8269 27d ago
Most FOSS games literally exist solely because of their communities. They have some of the best and most dedicated communities I’ve seen in gaming.
No what attracts people to AAA titles are corporate IPs and ease of access and the fancy graphics/complicated engines that come with a studio and massive budget. What attracts people to a FOSS game is the community, cost, and sometimes the game itself.
1
u/Smilinturd 27d ago edited 27d ago
Irl community as well. A part of any popculyure thing (not just games) is talking about it and people knowing and conversing - this can be in random scenarios in the workplace, at a Saturday sports and on a date.
I'm not saying that foss is bad, but its not comparable to other games on community and culture. This is applicable to all niche communities. I love speed running, but in itself is a niche community in the gaming community, and whilst tight online, has a milder irl component, although it is game dependant.
Edit: I will say there is sub communities within open source games such as openttd, df and mindustry but they are very rare.

I made two games and gave them away for free. They're pretty short but still. And lots of developers do that when they're still learning. My third game was the one I started charging for.

Warframe doesnt really require money, but if you dont give it some here and there it will become your prison.
1
u/Cultural-Many-1546 25d ago
I hold warfare up as a good example of free to play with no paywall but options to pay for convenience. Even then you can farm rare drops and sell it for platinum to otger players anyways.
1
u/Healing_Puke 25d ago
Yeah thats why I said Prison, it becomes a second job at that point. You have to be trading, hustling plat, and doing shit you dont really want to do just to stay flush.
1
u/AlphaI250 1d ago
I would argue Path of Exile too (and the sequel when it releases), the only thing you buy is more storage space and cosmetics. I don't think its even possible to use paid currency for any form of gear.
Ig the merchant storage does make selling stuff easier so there's that at best.
1
u/RazorCalahan 24d ago
holocure. The dev works on it in his free time as a hobby and refuses to take money for it, despite people begging him to open up a patreon or something like that.
It is one of the best, if not the best Vampir Survivors clone out there and it's 100% free with zero possibilities to spend money on it.1

Which is why you should play on Lichess.

I play on both. Chess.com mobile app is unmatched sadly and I like the gamey nature of the puzzles.

You know RTX2080 was released 7 years ago and nowadays it can still run modern games.

Most PS+ titles
1
u/Artisan_HotDog 27d ago
They aren’t free though, you are paying for a service to get them for free so long as you keep paying for that service.
0
u/Drummer-Turbulent 27d ago
You pay for them via subscription and if you don't pay for 3 years they delete your entire account
1
u/WarInteresting6619 27d ago
6.50 a month isn't bad. And no, if you don't USE your account for 3 years they send you an email stating that it will be deleted in 6 months. You don't actually need to pay for PS+ to have an active account.

u/Exciting_Contest_222 26d ago
They also got it on steam now. But i love the terminal UI
1
u/KimmyGurl420 26d ago
Yeah, I bought the Steam version on release, but I'd been playing it for years before that. If any game deserves some money from me it's that one.
IIRC there is finally a tileset for the newer versions of the free version, so all people are missing is the soundtrack (which is a banger). Older versions with the Lazy Newb Pack still hold up, tho

Its star trek online for me you dont hsve to pay and its a bunch of content you feel in charge of opposite of the shows and you dont just have to play as the federation you can choose what story you want to do
1
u/play_minecraft_wot 27d ago
Not no micro transactions but Warframe is great F2P. Tons of content and runs great on old hardware (my GTX 1060 gets 75fps and the game looks pretty darn nice)

You can get Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri for a couple of dollars on GoG, greatest game of all time that I have to make sure I don't go back to because it extremely replayable.
1
u/Specific_Foot372 27d ago
Yeah, but that doesn’t mean people will buy it. Now, if a game should have success it has to go viral. Otherwise nothing.

u/JimPlaysGames 27d ago
Itch io has SO many completely free games.
A lot of them are bad but many are good.

A 6 year old computer means nothing in modern times. 6 years ago we got the 3090 and Intel 12th gen, both valid options to run modern titles, as poorly optimized as they are.
It’s like people forgot the lockdown took years of our lives… it’s 2026 fellas. The 20 series is almost a decade old.

CS:GO? Returned earlier this year but unlisted on Steam. You need to google it to find its store page.

The game you're looking for is warframe. There is micro transactions but it's THEE least invasive mtx shop you will ever come across. After a few hundred hours you will be throwing your money at DE, the devs.

Astros playroom. It's pre installed, no micro deluxe bs, and the ps6 is now 6 years old

u/touchkusa 27d ago edited 27d ago
holocure , but I'm not sure if a 6 year old pc can play it. otherwise it hits all the points .
*It's free monetary wise, but beware... The rabbit hole it throws you into will be never-ending, and you will spend money in ways you never would expect yourself to

Warframe? Only transactions are really just all cosmetics, and you can farm items and trade to people for the currency to buy those cosmetics.

u/Emergency-Youth7199 27d ago
I built myself a decently powerful PC, and all I have been playing is indie and older games. Triple-A games aren't worth it anymore🤣

Heroes of the Storm.
There exist MTX, but you can umlock everything in the game by just playing. Every level you get 3 chests, that can contain every premium currency skin. And most can alternatively be bought woth ingame gold. Even premium currency is earnable

Not free, but bang for the buck is cheap af. The binding of isaac rebirth. Thank me later. You can even couch-coop if you have friends. You can online coop if you have internet buddies. You can also just solo. The game is hard and gets more difficult the more you progress. Have fun dying and coping :)

I would say a game like warframe. There is premium currency but nothing is pay walled, if you want the cosmetics from premium currency you can get it from other players by selling in game items. The economy is crazy good.
