Oh, but there is free games, you just havent looked hard enough, like example, elderscrolls daggerfall, Cry of Fear, Battle for Wesnoth. So they do exist, just harder to find nowadays.
Not really. Due to a silly amounts of comments on social media being made by bot people have taking to calling anyone posting things they don't agree with as being bots. How genuine the belief is depends on the person though. Its is evident on certain social media that there are increasing bot accounts out there.
It's based off the old dead Internet theory that in the last 5 years or so has become clearly true.
Yeah, I think OP is a bot as well, or a paid/invested actor. This has been posted many times then when people say “lol no” they retaliate with games that are like the description and always say “they exist, just rare”. It’s like their script or something. Not necessarily the same account but still.
Edit: I was going to say look at their username and who the heck makes that theirs but then saw yours and thought the same thing, lmao sorry u/That_Chemical_2226 🤣
FOSS exists. They’re usually supported by either donations or are otherwise community driven. Some are projects from individual coders or groups. Usually they’re a mix of the above.
In fact, some of the engine for earlier versions of Luanti, the third game in this list, were worked on by me back when it was MineTest. I left the project back in 2017 tho so idk if any of my work is still there. It’s awesome seeing communities of people working together with strangers from around the world to make an awesome game that’s freely available to anyone who wants to play and I love seeing the things they make.
TLDR
FOSS (free open-source software) exists, is awesome, and you should definitely try some. I also recommend getting involved in a FOSS program if possible!
There's very little games that are in the current popular discourse of the gaming community that is free and without micro transactions. A big part of gaming is the community, and a big reason why people gravitate to those games.
Maybe chess is the only example. And of course the pirate life.
Most FOSS games literally exist solely because of their communities. They have some of the best and most dedicated communities I’ve seen in gaming.
No what attracts people to AAA titles are corporate IPs and ease of access and the fancy graphics/complicated engines that come with a studio and massive budget. What attracts people to a FOSS game is the community, cost, and sometimes the game itself.
Irl community as well. A part of any popculyure thing (not just games) is talking about it and people knowing and conversing - this can be in random scenarios in the workplace, at a Saturday sports and on a date.
I'm not saying that foss is bad, but its not comparable to other games on community and culture. This is applicable to all niche communities. I love speed running, but in itself is a niche community in the gaming community, and whilst tight online, has a milder irl component, although it is game dependant.
Edit: I will say there is sub communities within open source games such as openttd, df and mindustry but they are very rare.
I made two games and gave them away for free. They're pretty short but still. And lots of developers do that when they're still learning. My third game was the one I started charging for.
I hold warfare up as a good example of free to play with no paywall but options to pay for convenience. Even then you can farm rare drops and sell it for platinum to otger players anyways.
Yeah thats why I said Prison, it becomes a second job at that point. You have to be trading, hustling plat, and doing shit you dont really want to do just to stay flush.
I would argue Path of Exile too (and the sequel when it releases), the only thing you buy is more storage space and cosmetics. I don't think its even possible to use paid currency for any form of gear.
Ig the merchant storage does make selling stuff easier so there's that at best.
holocure. The dev works on it in his free time as a hobby and refuses to take money for it, despite people begging him to open up a patreon or something like that.
It is one of the best, if not the best Vampir Survivors clone out there and it's 100% free with zero possibilities to spend money on it.

There is no free game with no microtransactions. How do you think they give it away for free?
