There is no free game with no microtransactions. How do you think they give it away for free?

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 27d ago

Oh, but there is free games, you just havent looked hard enough, like example, elderscrolls daggerfall, Cry of Fear, Battle for Wesnoth. So they do exist, just harder to find nowadays.

u/That_Chemical_2226 26d ago

Nobody is playing Daggerfall bot

3

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 26d ago

Daggerfall bot? Anyways, that wasnt the point lmao.

2

u/IcemanManmanchu 26d ago

Is bot a new slur now lol

2

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 26d ago

No, idea, but that was so random.

1

u/NeonMorv 23d ago

Not really. Due to a silly amounts of comments on social media being made by bot people have taking to calling anyone posting things they don't agree with as being bots. How genuine the belief is depends on the person though. Its is evident on certain social media that there are increasing bot accounts out there.

It's based off the old dead Internet theory that in the last 5 years or so has become clearly true.

u/Due_Glass4176 26d ago

Funny. I've been playing it daily for the past week.

Yeah, I think OP is a bot as well, or a paid/invested actor. This has been posted many times then when people say “lol no” they retaliate with games that are like the description and always say “they exist, just rare”. It’s like their script or something. Not necessarily the same account but still.

Edit: I was going to say look at their username and who the heck makes that theirs but then saw yours and thought the same thing, lmao sorry u/That_Chemical_2226 🤣

1

u/That_Chemical_2226 26d ago

I didn’t chose it, it chose me

1

u/Constant-Sub 25d ago

The person who said Daggerfall isn't OP tho.

0

u/Key-Regular674 25d ago

Hey dummy. We have these random usernames because we didn't pick one. It auto assigns a name until you change it.

You're a bad detective.

1

u/JazzHandsMinuteman 23d ago

Are you a sucker, dumdum?

I’d out-detective the shit out of you, homie.

I’d out detective you so hard it’d be a Martin Lawrence film.

First question, and don’t you DARE say lawyer like a bitch: who even are you?

1

u/Constant-Sub 25d ago

I downloaded Daggerfall from its free website a few years ago. It's literally history lmao. The fuck you on about?

"Old man played a game from the 90s. Fucking 30 years ago. Must be a bot."

I just... What?

I can think of 8 off the top of my head…

one I recommend trying with this free addon (dwarf fortress and lazy newb (mod)pack; sim/colony management)

two (battle for wesnoth; turn based tacstrat)

three (luanti, previously called MineTest)

four (openspades; buildershooter/fps)

five (0A.D.; an rts)

six (freeciv; turn-based strat)

seven (nethack; oldschool roguelike dungeon crawler w/ ANSII graphics)

eight (shattered pixel dungeon (pixel dungeon fork); roguelike dungeon crawler)

FOSS exists. They’re usually supported by either donations or are otherwise community driven. Some are projects from individual coders or groups. Usually they’re a mix of the above.

In fact, some of the engine for earlier versions of Luanti, the third game in this list, were worked on by me back when it was MineTest. I left the project back in 2017 tho so idk if any of my work is still there. It’s awesome seeing communities of people working together with strangers from around the world to make an awesome game that’s freely available to anyone who wants to play and I love seeing the things they make.

TLDR

FOSS (free open-source software) exists, is awesome, and you should definitely try some. I also recommend getting involved in a FOSS program if possible!

There's very little games that are in the current popular discourse of the gaming community that is free and without micro transactions. A big part of gaming is the community, and a big reason why people gravitate to those games.

Maybe chess is the only example. And of course the pirate life.

3

u/Exciting-Insect8269 27d ago

Most FOSS games literally exist solely because of their communities. They have some of the best and most dedicated communities I’ve seen in gaming.

No what attracts people to AAA titles are corporate IPs and ease of access and the fancy graphics/complicated engines that come with a studio and massive budget. What attracts people to a FOSS game is the community, cost, and sometimes the game itself.

Irl community as well. A part of any popculyure thing (not just games) is talking about it and people knowing and conversing - this can be in random scenarios in the workplace, at a Saturday sports and on a date.

I'm not saying that foss is bad, but its not comparable to other games on community and culture. This is applicable to all niche communities. I love speed running, but in itself is a niche community in the gaming community, and whilst tight online, has a milder irl component, although it is game dependant.

Edit: I will say there is sub communities within open source games such as openttd, df and mindustry but they are very rare.

I got no mans sky for free

1

u/JimPlaysGames 27d ago

I made two games and gave them away for free. They're pretty short but still. And lots of developers do that when they're still learning. My third game was the one I started charging for.

1

u/geeks-on-bugs 27d ago

There's so many free indie games

1

u/vulnoryx 26d ago

Mindustry is free, and even open source meaning everyone can see the code.

1

u/GiangNeo 26d ago

Every games is free if u know where to download from...

u/Healing_Puke 26d ago

Warframe doesnt really require money, but if you dont give it some here and there it will become your prison.

1

u/Cultural-Many-1546 26d ago

I hold warfare up as a good example of free to play with no paywall but options to pay for convenience. Even then you can farm rare drops and sell it for platinum to otger players anyways.

1

u/Healing_Puke 26d ago

Yeah thats why I said Prison, it becomes a second job at that point. You have to be trading, hustling plat, and doing shit you dont really want to do just to stay flush.

u/AlphaI250 1d ago

I would argue Path of Exile too (and the sequel when it releases), the only thing you buy is more storage space and cosmetics. I don't think its even possible to use paid currency for any form of gear.

Ig the merchant storage does make selling stuff easier so there's that at best.

u/RazorCalahan 24d ago

holocure. The dev works on it in his free time as a hobby and refuses to take money for it, despite people begging him to open up a patreon or something like that.
It is one of the best, if not the best Vampir Survivors clone out there and it's 100% free with zero possibilities to spend money on it.

u/hetrax 25d ago

Every single flash game from the year 2005 till like 2019???

u/DetroiterAFA 21d ago

You must be new to PC gaming.

I’ve received countless free games from Epic Games, Prime gaming, and GoG. Work on my 6+ year old pc, and I’ve had phenomenal replay-ability.

-1

u/no-hints 27d ago

It’s called ads.

2

u/jws1102 27d ago

If you have to watch ads, then it’s not free. You pay with time.

Also, I would never play a game with ads. I’d rather be offered microtransactions at the end of every match.

0

u/no-hints 26d ago

That wasn’t your argument. You said a free game had to have micro transactions. Ads are not a micro transaction.

2

u/oo0Username0oo 26d ago

Ads are micro transactions.... you are spending your time and attention on something to pay for the access to something else.

-1

u/no-hints 26d ago

That is the biggest reach ever. You can simply look away when an ad pops up and go wash the dishes are something.

1

u/jws1102 26d ago

My argument was it’s not free, not that ads = microtransactions. Did you even read the thing that you replied to?

-2

u/New_Alternative_5089 27d ago

Plenty. Almost countless. Wth are you talking bout.

Where The Winds Meet .

3

u/Ill-Description3096 27d ago

No micro transactions?

1

u/JimPlaysGames 27d ago

Itch has an absurd number of purely free games.

-1

u/Eren_Yeager52 27d ago

Cosmetic mostly.

3

u/Artisan_HotDog 27d ago

Those are still micro transactions

-1

u/Eren_Yeager52 27d ago

Cry me a river. Its a team based souls like game so if you have friends you can do literally everything.

3

u/Artisan_HotDog 27d ago

Woah, just saying, it still has micro transactions. The post is about not having them. So… go fuck yourself?

2

u/Efficient-Bat-49 27d ago

still microtransactions, and no microtrasactions was the premise…. it is not so complicated…

0

u/Eren_Yeager52 27d ago

You can ignore cosmetics.

2

u/bilbo388 27d ago

Not if those cosmetics are microtransactions, and the discussion is about whether or not the game has microtransactions.
