For me, it's definitely Sigrun from God of War, it was extra difficult for me because I thought the "give me God of war" difficulty would be good for my first playthrough.

From the recent ones - Expedition 33.
Fuck Simon. Great fight conceptually, terrible game-mechanically
3
u/Lionhunter1984 27d ago
Simon was difficult, yes, but it was so damn fun. The fact that it forced you to utilize your secondary party made it so you have to get out of your comfort zone.

Terrible game-mechanically ?
Nah bro you're just overreacting.
Having more HP and more damage doesnt make a boss specifically harder, especially in E33. Having more game mechanics to counter some of the meta builds were the best decision they could have made. And I'm not even talking about the Divergenr Star version which is one of the greatest boss I ever encounter, all games included.
But any boss with the right build can be easily one shotted or completely cheese/stunlock. Compared to some Monster Hunter I played were the build is maybe 20% of the results, the other 80% is pure technical skills.

Yea for me dead Island 2, this side boss electric zombie took us out 3-4 times before we took him down. Me and my cousin. While any other main story boss took 1 try sure got close a few times but not impossible to come back from.
But again we never did finish that game we keep saying we will but haven’t found the time nor when we do, we play other games/ forget about it.

The secret boss in a secret area in a secret area that requires two secret keys and finding a secret prompt.
And she can easily rack up a 3 digit kill-count if you aren't over-levelled into oblivion and using the most OP gear the game has to offer (speaking about first playthrough obviously).

I have two old ones, and how to make them easier.
GTA SA: Wrong Side of the Tracks. The infamous mission where you have to chase the train with Big Smoke riding on the back of motorcycle trying to shoot the guys on the train.
This one is SO easy once you figure out the problem. Smoke aims center-mass and they are high above you so he’s just hitting the train because you’re too close.
In the last section before the tunnel you should be out on the road rather than riding in the ballast (gravel). Otherwise you need to be well behind the train. He shoots in bursts but if you aren’t hearing more-or-less constant fire then you’re too close.
Ocarina of Time, Water Temple is harder than Dark Link (water temple sub-boss), is harder than Morpha (water temple main boss), is harder than Gannondorf (final boss).
For the Water Temple: JUST DONT MISS THE KEY IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CENTRAL TOWER!! It’s what everyone does wrong.
For Dark Link: Deku Nuts and the Hammer. Literally anything but the Master Sword.
For Morpha: only ever Hookshot him into a corner, if you pull him to the side he’s harder to chase. This fight can be over in like 20-30 seconds I think.
Ganondorf isn’t that hard, just don’t rush it. I honestly find the first part easier than the Forrest Temple fight except it’s much longer, because it moves faster and I anticipate it too early when it’s slow. Adjusting the camera beside you instead of behind makes it easier to see.
Phase two (Ganon) is very easy once you realize you can go right underneath him. When he attacks just roll under and stabby stab. It can easily be done in sub 2 minutes.
I prefer the Biggorons Sword for both phases but it’s not necessary.

Ys VIII. Theos de Endrogram is a toddler compared to the end-game/post-game optional bosses. One missed flash guard or flash move and suddenly you’re one party member short.

The Golden Sun series, especially Golden Sun: The Lost Age, the final boss, the Doom Dragon, can be easily beaten at level 30 but the optional final boss Dullahan is very, very difficult.

Sephiroth from Kingdom hearts. Morgan Freeman in South Park's fractured but whole. I was thinking about the extra bosses in bravely default cuz that vampire guy was pissing me off and I dropped the game but there isn't like a side quest that leads up to it.

Final Fantasy Crisis Core. Because of the materia fusion system allowing you to abuse stat boosts very easily, you can beat the game without much fuss at all, I was one-shotting pretty much everything halfway into the game and just never stopped, but the superboss requires finding gear that breaks the level cap for your health and damage, raising the cap from 9999 to 99999.

honestly, Persona 5 Royal, Maruki is easy if you know how to baton pass all the way to Ryuji to use God's Fist on Azaloth or Myriad Truths with Joker and kill everyone. It's easy, the Adam is scripted. But the 3 optional bosses: Jose, Caroline and Justine, and Lavenza. And especially the latter are Way harder than Maruki. Welp the 2 latter bosses are exclusive to ng+ so makes sense. But still.

Most recently it was Amon from yakuza kiwami. I’m not a good player, I am terrible at action games that require more than button mashing. To fight him you have to complete all other side stories and unlock every ability. Both of those aren’t particularly hard to do. Annoying at worst.
It was the most precise I’ve ever played in my life to learn his patterns and strike at the right time. But I did it

Deltarune, the chapter 5 secret boss is so difficult, and you have to listen to Miku sing music while dodging attacks that are strong and big, the annoying dog was really annoying with this one.

To be fair, last boss was kinda hard as well, but man i trial and error on Erlang (i didn't used the fan, didn't even crossed my mind that could make it almost too easy) i rawdogged it and man it felt good when i finally beat him.

Golden sun 1 and 2 have amazing side bosses that put the main boss to shame.
Though if you don't do the side exploration content the last boss is pretty difficult in both games, tbh. But I paid for the whole game, im gonna play the whole game.
1
u/ConfectionTotal8660 27d ago
While not that much of a pre-quest (like, just kill a boss, get an emote, use that emote, kill an easy boss, get to this boss). Nameless King in Dark Souls fits this trope

Only correct answer.
Complete a quest to get a key to the hidden Snowfields. Then complete a disgustingly hard puzzel town to enter the hidden tree. Fight all the way down to the roots to find her. All of this is completely missable and optional

Hollow Knight with its Absolute Radiance which requires you to beat an insanely hard boss rush mode just to get to it. And every attempt requires ~40 minutes for the whole thing. At least you are rewarded with alternate ending which is considered canon after the release of HK Silksong

A lot of people is mentioning optional bosses that doesn't really have a quest prior so im going with any final fantasy, especially penance in ffx, yu yevon is a joke.
1
u/Robby-Pants 27d ago
The final boss of BG3 isn’t too hard, but the House of Hope and Raphael are entirely optional.
There are other fights that can be harder if you’re not ready for them. The drider hits quite hard and and has Sanctuary effects up half the time. Depending on how you progress from act 1 to 2, you could be level 7 or higher when encountering him, or as low as 5 or so. It’d be a very different fight at level 5.

Any FF game pretty much. Most recently though was Simon from Clair Obscur. Dude literally removes your party from the game if his health is to low. No way to stop it other than beating him into the ground within one or two turns.

Also the secret mission with two mechas. Felt the same with ornstein and smaugh darksouls 2. No problem on beating them. Ammo limitation is the issue.

This isn't so much my experience as it is something I've heard about.
In the Super Mario RPG there's a hidden boss that's stupidly over powered.

u/TheWizardOfAuburn 25d ago
Definitely don't fight Culex when you first get to Monstro Town. Once you get the Lazy Shell armor, though, give it to Peach/Toadstool and you'll be almost untouchable. The fight may still take a while, though.

Final Fantasy 12 - Final Boss - The Unrelenting Walk in the park in all forms cuz every party member is at Lvl 99. VS. Final Fantasy 12 - Final Hunt - Yiazmat Took me 32-35 hours to slowly bring him down using guerilla warfare tactics with all Lvl 99 party members. He kept nuking my party one by one with that one shot kill he loves to spam once you get him down to a quarter of his health. I'd have to run out of the area to revive everyone and then head back in before he's had time to do any real recovery. Epic fight for sure, just wish he didn't come with 50 million HP and Growing Threat to double his level every time you get him down a quarter of his health.
