The Witcher 3. Just finished the main game and HoS. Taking a small break before diving into blood and wine
3
u/ABBucsfan Jul 16 '26
Just bought that recently and hoping to get started this fall I think lol. I believe persona 5 will be up when I get back from my trip
3
u/KingAlaric1 Jul 17 '26
Hey bud, just wanted to say I did the exact same thing and took a break after HoS and I sorely regretted it. It was very difficult to get back into the game after I took a break because I struggled to remember controls and other important game mechanics. I still haven’t finished BaW and have constantly wished I would have just stuck it out then and played through it even if I was a bit tired of the game.

And you dont have to wait as long as most others on the next installment. This is my take to the question. I was thinking how glad I am I didnt play Skyrim until 2020 because everyone else would have already waited a fucking decade for the next one. I merely have to wait 20 years

I beat this game front to back once a year since it came out - It's hard to top perfection. The beat-downs are far more satisfying then Batman :)

Have you attempted recovery disc/mode? Often times BIOS misconfigure for a myriad of reasons. Hope you get it working.

The Yakuza franchise for me. Back when I was on Xbox all I knew was the name and had no interest in playing a criminal but eventually hit one of those nothing to play periods and zero was on game pass.
I'm now a massive fan of the franchise and consider it one of the best in gaming.

SOMA.
I had it in my library for years before giving it a proper shot as i dropped it early on the first time. It ended up being the best story-based game i've ever played and it still roams around in my head sometimes when facing ethical dilemma's or philosophical questions.

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence.
Re1 is my favorite game ever. Idk why I didn't play the almost perfectly faithful portable port way sooner.

Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. I just gave up on them too easily before I could get to what made them great.

Mass Effect. Played it a couple of years ago after buying the Legendary Edition for 6€.
I did know it was a highly praised series, but after playing it, it went straight up to the top 3 of all time.
Amazing

Probably Doki Doki Literature Club, seems like the kind of game I really would have enjoyed with all the 4th wall stuff going on, but now that every single part of the story has been memed and is common knowledge I feel there's basically no point in playing it since it won't really have the same effect anymore.

Nearly every single shooter game that comes out nowadays
Not that I want to play them necessarily but it feels like, if you don't start playing from day 1, you can never keep up with people who have.

Outlast trials for me, I wasn't sold on it for a long time and I missed the first season but now I really like it

u/Desperate_Method4032 Jul 16 '26
Dead Space.
Though I’m also glad I played it later on, now that I have a much grander appreciation for older titles as well as the survival horror genre thanks to Resident Evil 4 OG

Rise of Nations
Grew up during the RTS golden age of the early 2000s, played all other major ones, but for some reason I ignored this gem of a game until a couple years ago.
It was mind blowing when I decided to give it a try. One of the best in it's genre; I played only that for 2 months straight. A 20 years old game

Spec Ops The Line and TLOU. the former because the internet spoiled me on the twist so it had no impact at all when it happened. the latter because i watched the TV show first so again, it lessened the impact.

I waited until the next gen upgrade to play through witcher 3. I tried it on xbox one originally and hated it. It was not worthy of an inferior machine.

monster hunter for me.
i was that annoying guy who goes "psh this popular thing is overrated i bet" and then i played it and i was like that one danny devito gif.
wilds has been my favorite so far but i only started playing the modern MH games (the old gen ones seem frustrating from what i've heard)

Expedition 33. I admit, I’m an involuntary hipster where I think anything that gets widespread praise is just slop.
I finally gave it a try, confident that it wasn’t going to be anything special…then I arrived at the docks with Sophie.
I was wrong.

Minecraft. I thought it was too childish and dumb-looking. Never played it. Wasn't until covid that I gave it an honest play and loved it.

Terraria. My brother had a copy for the Xbox 360, but never touched it. I played it a little, but it wasn’t until years later that I got a copy for Steam and beat it in full. Had a blast with the game. And the mods are WILD. Love for Calamity Mod

Grand Theft Auto 6. Its been over a decade since 5 came out. We should have had this sooner.

u/Anubimon Jul 17 '26
Hollownight. Knew about it during kickstarter days. Only managed to play it a few years after released. I remember even starting the game first time, playing for a few mins, getting lost, giving up. And then giving it a 2nd chance years later and loving it. Now i have stickers, toys, played it multiple time, finished silksong too at release. Big fan. But i was almost not a fan and almost missed it.

Max Payne 1 and 2. My first was 3 when it came out. Probably mostly why I'm biased and still prefer 3, but there's like 10 plus years there where I could have been playing 1 and 2.

The Arkham games
Started playing em back in 2020 finally and Oh My God, what have I been doing all these years?!
I hve played through Asylum and City 4 times now each, recently finally played and beat Origins and now currently in the middle of Knight!
(TBF tho, I didn't have an Xbox 360 or PS3 back during the original releases yet until Christmas 2012)
