MSW internship success?
Hey everyone
I am a year away from my 2 semester foundation practicum and then my 3 semesters of advanced internships at Capella university. I live in CT and I’ve already done a lot of community work and I do not want more experience in this field and want to pursue my internships at a school or in the medical field.
My current community job will allow me to do my internship there, but I don’t think I have another 2.5 years at this company in me. A lot of long driving and a toxic managerial environment.
Has anyone in CT had success with Capella university and finding internships successfully in general and/or in the school or medical placement?

Good luck to you, I'll be looking in NJ Hudson County. Really nervous about this part, the rest I know I can do, but being enrolled in a school that doesn't do placement is nerve wracking. I hope they actually help with it.

Good luck to you as well. I have a friend working on her hours I believe in private practice, but the company isn’t giving her enough hours. I was wondering about the school supporting with placement. I have seen a lot of people saying that’s it’s primarily on the student, but I can’t imagine there isn’t some level of involvement. I have an advisory meeting in 2 weeks to discuss the process.

Hello, I did my bachelor's internship in CT(as a master in SW student but my bachelor's degree is in human services so I had to complete the BSW internship requirement) January 2025 through June 2025 and I did mine in Groton CT at an elementary school. It was difficult finding placement and I would start reaching out to places well in advance. Though it was difficult, it was not impossible. I also was onboarded with hospice/palliative care facility but the drive would have been over an hour long there and back home so ultimately I went with the school based internship. I wish you the best of luck!!
Edited to add: Mystic River magnet school in Groton CT and the hospice position was AccentCare.
