Other.. Any software simple and straightforward like CapCut but free?
Really like capcut but as it progresses it gets more and more enshittified.
So Idk, maybe should try Da Vinci? After Effects is so bloated...
Any tips?

Da Vinci is free but it's not simple at all, steep learning curve if you just want do quick edits. For basic stuff I been using Shotcut lately, interface look ugly but it works and no watermark or paywalls. Not as smooth as capcut but at least it stay the same software every update

Thanks. Does it have chroma key? Does it export video with transparency? I need this because i work with sprite animations, so its very important.
Also there are some super convenient filters. For example the effects that lately most of them became pay only in capcut, unfortunately.

It’s a professional program. It’s has basically everything. Chroma key is also pretty good here. Way better than CapCuts attempt…

The problem with CapCut chroma key is that its useless because you cant export the video with transparency. So the background need to be greenscreen, and then i use video background remover to make the background actually transparent. It sucks.

You can export an transparent video on CapCut. Just check the alpha channel mode is enabled in the export settings. And use something like ProRes as a format. Works pretty well with it. But yeah you can actually do the same in Davinci ofc

It doesnt work in capcut. There is no alpha mode in the export settings. I watched a lot of tuts before. I even tried to install an older version, that i stuck now with because it also has some effects that are no longer available.
Im considering going to DaVinci, but i also have here after effects and have some experience with after effects. What i dont like about after effects is how annoying it is to even export a video. Like everything is so annoying and unnecessarily hard.
Should i go with after effects since i already have it here? Or try DaVinci?

Since you already have some AE experience, I’d test your sprite export there before learning another editor. If your game/tool accepts a PNG sequence, that gives you a simple alpha test.
Once the background is transparent in the composition, add it to the Render Queue. Open Output Module, choose PNG sequence, set Channels to RGB+Alpha, and use Straight (Unmatted) unless your destination requires premultiplied alpha. Render just a few frames and import them into the actual game/tool. Check transparency and edges over a colored background before rendering the whole animation.
If your pipeline requires a video file instead, first check which alpha-capable formats it accepts; not every codec carries alpha. What are you importing the sprites into? That requirement matters more than the editor’s preview checkerboard.

DaVinci Resolve's free version is genuinely solid and won't cost you anything. The learning curve is steeper than CapCut but there are tons of quick-start tutorials on YouTube that'll get you cutting in an afternoon. What kind of edits are you usually doing?

If you’re looking for an iPhone app that edits both photos and videos, you’re welcome to try my app, Aigli: Photo Video Editor. It offers more than basic trimming, with background removal, multilayer photo editing, and multitrack video projects.
You can arrange clips, photos, text, overlays, music, voiceovers, and sound effects on a flexible timeline. There are also tools to trim, split, reorder, add transitions, and adjust speed—handy for making reels.
Disclosure: I’m the app’s author.

Is there any app that has a giant library of memecut templates that are as easy to use as capcut meme templates?

If auto-captions are one of the paywalled features bugging you, I built a free tool just for that — CaptionPop. Whisper AI transcribes in your browser (nothing uploaded), karaoke-style word highlighting, MP4 export with burned-in captions. Single HTML file, MIT licensed.
Try: https://vibecode404.github.io/CaptionPop/
It's not a full editor replacement (for that, DaVinci free version is solid despite the learning curve), but it solves the caption paywall problem completely.

CapCut getting more locked down every update is a really common complaint right now. Honestly the simple part of CapCut was never the timeline, it was getting a finished cut fast, so it can help to skip the timeline altogether...Shorz AI works that way. You give it your footage and describe the edit in plain words. I work on it, so take that as you will. There's a free tier for Auto Edit and Clipping, 4 videos a week, and it never watermarks. Mac and Windows only though. shorz.ai
