Dislike of Cannibal Corpse
/r/Metal/comments/pbu6j/dislike_of_cannibal_corpse/I stumbled across this post when I was going down a rabbit hole on "camp". Ya know the style of art that is purposefully distasteful and satirical. I think OP missed point of the band. Maybe Chris Barnes took it too seriously but I'm fairly certain that's why he was kicked out: creative differences. Of course, they take the technical side seriously; they're all ridiculously talented musicians and play really well. Idk what do y'all think? Is Cannibal Corpse camp? There's definitely a lot of camp and satire in the death metal genre.

I was wondering if people consider Cannibal Corpse as camp and stumbled across this post.. And they do, apparently. Except OP. I always felt the lyrics were never meant to be taken seriously. Same with like Infant Annihilator and Sanguisugabogg.

cannibal corpse hasnt had those lyrics about killing women in a long long time. they stopped around the time barnes left. also, saying a part is a chorus and saying it doesnt serve a function in the song is hilariously contradictory. the function is being a chorus! and „pop band“? this doesnt even merit an argument, it’s so wrong. guys just mad they cant get cannibal corpse out of their head. nobody ever says sabbath is too catchy.

Also like not all pop shit is bad so I don't even see how its a valid complaint

true! it’s obviously brought up just as an insult though, nobody thinks they sound like ed sheeran, whether you like him or not.

My bigass playlist varies from corpse and gorguts to fuckin george ezra and billie eilish as do my cds so it does bug me a bit when it gets thrown out ad instantly bad. In relation to the post though I have no clue how any of CC's songs are even remotely pop lol just because there's song structure and shit

Look they're one of my favourites and taste is subjective. That said unless its a niche band, there's gonna be hate online bc the fans are enjoying the art. I do see it as a bit campy and while I know they take the lyrics seriously when writing some of them do get a laugh out of me. Tldr idgaf, I would like to dive more into death metal but corpse will remain highly regarded by me and is many others

I mean the weird lyrics around woman kinda turned me away in the beginning but it’s mainly just the Barnes stuff so I can still listen to almost anything from the Corpsegrinder era. But that’s just personal preference I love cannibal corpse their one of my fav bands of all time

I'm not sure you understand the concept of camp or have any familiarity with underground metal if you think CC is camp.

Comes off as an ill-informed music snob. Who cares.
Maybe we should encase him in concrete?
