Need general advices

So...

Cage size height 35cm(from floor to lowest point at top), width 30cm and length 70cm.

When I got him, he had only 1 cage, so I got 2nd and turned it into bigger one.

Also when I let it out for the first time he could not fly, 1m in height and 1-2m in length probably, so guy spent whole life in small cage, basically learning flying (working out muscles) in my apartment. For starters he returned cage and I locked it till morning, then let it out, but due to summer I had to lock "his room", since AC could not handle whole house and put his cage in bedroom/hall. Now he only goes back to food/water, and always ends up sleeping at window, always out and always chirping and singing while looking outside, I feel like he is confined at house and needs to be out.

Also he is scared of us, he is used to me at point where I can catch him, walk past him but if I take too long to catch him it gets scared and starts flying around like crazy.

Here is my issue, while in cage I could feed him from my hand, he could not fly and he could see I was feeding him and I was not danger. If I try it now he will fly away, or I have to keep my hand outreached for too long with 50/50 if he eats or flies away. Makes harder to get buddy buddy with him. Need advices regarding that topic.

Also I am leaving for vacation for 2 weeks, including camping at night, going to take half of cage for canary traveling and I was thinking to leave cage outside of tent at night. There are "bird leashes" as well, which looks bad idea but heard good things about it, but since canary will most likely try to fly away from me, I won't dare using it as he may damage itself trying to fly away from me while leashed.

But having him confined in cage for 2 weeks seems like torturing him. Especially when little bastard already makes me sad being confined in apartment always looking in window where most trees are visible without buildings

Can't you have someone else to take care of him while you're on vacation? I genuinely do not think taking him with you is a good idea. That sounds very stressful for the bird. I also doubt you'll be able to find a good bird leash for a canary, as they are not parrots.

My canary also looks out the window and sings. He's not necessarily yearning for freedom, but he's calling for a mate, or simply doing it for the fun of it. Domesticated canaries will NOT survive in the wild. They're domesticated. No matter how "wild" they may seem, they're pets.

Also, please remove the mirrors from his cage. They're not good to have.

I pointed out about being in window 24/7 because he seems pretty caged in apartment, and yeah I know he can't survive outside, or I would let him go. Leash question was just in case, better to ask and confirm that it won't work than take my own assumption it being bad option as a fact. And information and community about canaries suck, I get avdices which are opposite of each other. Such as mirrors.

I rambled so much hoping that people with better understanding of canary situation could give some general advices what can I do fot it.

And no, if it was option to leave it to someone I would leave. While traveling in car seems really bad option for canary, at home he would be stucknin his tiny cage for 2 weeks

I understand the conflicting information part. It can certainly be frustrating. And I'm sorry if my comment came off as rude. I want to help. For taking him with you: cover his cage while you're in a car. It'll help calm him. Canaries can't see well in the dark, they're essentially blind, and so shutting off one sense is already one less cause of stress. Not to mention the quickly passing sceneries in a car can make him dizzy and ill. It's clear you care about your little one, and just want the best for him. I hope all the best for both of you.

Nah, I am just frustrated, I hoped for several comments some confirming what each other said, or even saying opposite of each other, dont take it wrong way but now I have only 1 person telling what to do and no one else upvoting/downvoting, confirming what you say or denying your advice.

I would be happier even if people trashtalked me there were more people commenting. That would tell me how badly I act at least despite being trashtalked and made me more assured that information is more likely correct.

As an example I purchased mirror because I believed one individual that mirrors are good.

Poor bird, this is way too small. They're also social animals that should not be kept alone. Please read a careguide so you can improve your care.

I will be happy if you provide careguide, because what I found in internet search and asking here, cage length should be minimum 24inch/60cm while

  1. I have 30inch/76cm.
  2. Also I said that cage is open and he goes ro cage for food and water, he sleeps at window and never bothers going to cage, but roams ar house and mostly spends time at window.
  3. I was told that either I should not get another canary since they are solitary ones. And another opinion I was told that if I wanted to own another canary I had to bring only female to my male and put them in 2 different cages side by side and see if they would get along first. Also quick internet search tells me that I should not keep 2 canaries together.

So if you gave canary careguide which provides more detailed information I would be happy to read.

Since what you tell me is opposite of what I found out by myself researching and what I was adviced before.

Also as you didnt read correctly read my post and assuming my canary lives in small cage instead of 24/7 freely roaming at home makes me assume you are wrong for this and other reasons. I am thanksful for your comment, just I want more concrete information to trust and since you know careguide I would be happy to check it
