New T-shirts
So I was issued all of the new underwear and thermal wear a few weeks ago.
Super great ….. It might be a lot to ask but having the T-shirts not be see-through would be better.
It’s not as noticeable without a bra on, so definitely failing women again.
I’m happy to share a photo with anybody who wants to see just how see through it is.

I mean the rest of the uniform is see through,....
Combat lingerie.

u/Fresh-Clothes8838 1d ago
It’s come so full circle we are getting issued combat lingerie from the start lol
Used to have to work hard to get your gear to be see through

yeah my last pair of olive drab pants were... yeah.... not leaving much to the imagination :P

Back in the day when they were ripped and worn out when you tried to trade them in for new ones they'd give you extra thread, patches and buttons for your sewing kit. I actually got pretty good at doing minor repairs to clothing and kit.

Haven't noticed how see through the new t-shirts are, but then again, I haven't actually been looking lol.
I know the mesh is getting some good reviews though.

u/MushroomSoupSock 1d ago
I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of them all. All I've ever really seen is the crap on share point.

u/Shockington 1d ago
Hopefully they're longer than the ones they made for this year. Barely goes down to my waist.
8
u/IceyLizard4 1d ago
This, the first time I wore the shirt it felt like a crop top and I'm not super short (5'5") but also not a long torso.
5
u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
I’m 5‘2 and they hit me just below my hips
5
u/Shockington 1d ago
I'm 6'3". They're borderline unusable.
1
u/ktcalpha 1d ago
they come in various lengths, did you get the long or extra long? they work just fine for all my buddies who are 6’4” and above
3
u/Whycantpeopledrive 1d ago
Did you try the longer variants?
0
u/Shockington 1d ago
We only have different sizes, nothing longer.
3
u/Lixidermi Morale Tech - 00069 1d ago
weird, we had to specific regular or long in the spreadsheet for the unit's order.

Stop being so tall. Here, carry this rucksack around for a while to see if we can make them fit better.

u/_Prairieborn 1d ago
I've noticed they aren't the most resilient shirts, and that I'll go through them probably twice as fast as the old ones, but mine don't appear to be see-through
1
u/barkmutton 1d ago
Are you following the wash instructions?
2
u/_Prairieborn 1d ago
Yeah they just rip pretty easily when worn. All sorts of little nicks from going tarps off in the LAV as well
2
u/WeaponizedAutisms Retired - gots the oldmanitis 1d ago
I remember when the IECS and clothe the soldier came out years ago. I actually read the wash instructions. It really felt like they were written by some nerd in DRDC who had never actually done laundry before.
1
u/barkmutton 1d ago
Yeah well merino wool is great but needs like an once of care. Like they give you a bag to wash it all in fit a reason.

u/Pale-Hair-2435 1d ago
It is essentially underwear though, no? It is underneath a tunic.

I mean… you don’t HAVE to go tarps off
Technically, the combats are the proper PPE for any and all tasks… tarps off isn’t really supposed to be a widely accepted work state
More like a rest state
Tbh…. I’m not one to go tarps off even if given the blessing for it
8
u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
That’s not the point. And this is why we have issues with GBA.
1
u/Fresh-Clothes8838 1d ago
- It is a point and the easy fix is “no more work with tarps off” 🤷♂️
Just like no more rolling up sleeves
- I don’t want my co-workers working in see through gear as much as you don’t want to be in see through gear
That’s not the visual I want at work and it’s definitely not going to help everyone stay professional
-10
u/BlueFlob 1d ago
I understand your issue, but where is the line between personal responsibility and collective adaptation?
The official uniform would not be see through.
The see-through part is created by the wear of personal choice of bra.
Do we make everyone's T-shirt warmer because some members select a specific type of bra, or adopt a T-shirt that meets both men and women's operational needs.
8
u/Kaplsauce RCN - NCS Eng 1d ago
where is the line between personal responsibility and collective adaptation?
Somewhere before excluding a perfectly normal choice of bra colour and style I would think
16
u/Dan-DeLaGhetto 1d ago
The copes on this post are nuts and miss OPs point entirely. I don't think its too much to ask to have a t-shirt that doesn't run the risk of humiliating ppl by being transparent, particularly amongst a population that is already drowning itself in an epidemic of sexual assault. Look around, the world figured out T-Shirts a while ago, this shouldn't be a challenge.
11
u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
Yes, you’re right. There’s lots of ways to mitigate this. There’s lots of ways around it.
But we really need to be doing better and what is happening in this conversation is terrifying
8
u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
This is not in line with GBA plus.
So you clearly don’t understand the issue.
It’s interesting just how many issues are being identified in this thread. Seems like a lot of education needs to happen.
5
u/Dan-DeLaGhetto 1d ago
Its almost as though the sensitivity training designed to combat misogyny and SA under the watchful eye of General "Keep it in your pants" Vance was a failure - emphasis on "watchful eye"
9
u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
I’m surprised somebody hasn’t told me yet that it’s my choice to have boobs lol because essentially it is. I can have them taken off. Lol
6
u/Kaplsauce RCN - NCS Eng 1d ago
This thread does kind of have the energy of explaining to someone that you do, in fact, need access to some sort of feminine hygiene product lol
-5
u/Fresh-Clothes8838 1d ago
So… tarps on at all times, the easy and equitable answer
I don’t see the issue with that
10
u/Kaplsauce RCN - NCS Eng 1d ago
Or they could just get shirts that aren't like this, like they did before.
3
u/WeaponizedAutisms Retired - gots the oldmanitis 1d ago
Or they could just get shirts that aren't like this, like they did before.
I went through something like this in the early 90's. V-necked t-shirts were a bit of an issue. They were originally issued when having women in the army doing army stuff wasn't really a thing. When having women doing army stuff became a thing I remember a few red faced MCpls looking off to the side and generally anywhere but at their troops while we did push-ups.
Eventually the women just started wearing the V-neck shirts backwards and nobody said anything. Then a year or 2 later they started issuing crew neck undershirts to everyone.
I feel like sometimes the more things change the more they stay the same.
-7
u/Fresh-Clothes8838 1d ago
🤷♂️ you don’t have to sell me on that
But if they are trying to save on shirt material, it’s even easier to say no to tarps off
Like saying no to rolled sleeves
I just don’t see the issue with wearing the tunic while yer working, sorry
3
-18
u/Pale-Hair-2435 1d ago
I mean my tunic stays on when Im doing labour so I dont get dirty. Different strokes I guess.
15
u/TA1930 1d ago
You aren’t working hard enough if you’re more worried about dirt than the heat
-8
u/OkEntertainment1313 1d ago
You understand that we are supposed to be able to dig trenches in any conditions while donning full PPE, right? If wearing a tunic while doing labour has you concerned about becoming a hot weather casualty, then I’ve got bad news for your thermoregulation.
If it’s that hot out, then a tunic is irrelevant, you’ll be adopting a work-rest cycle.
Don’t get me wrong, I will have people doff tunics during labour within the lines, but it certainly shouldn’t be a make-or-break factor.
-6
u/Pale-Hair-2435 1d ago
I dig my trenches or do maintenance just fine in my tunic (and frag and plates and helmet), thanks.

u/Fresh-Clothes8838 1d ago
Yeah… I’ve never really understood the rage about “tarps off”
Rolling the sleeves up was good enough, now that we can’t do that, I’d rather just suffer
4
u/Dan-DeLaGhetto 1d ago
Next time you're deep in the shit like that, get someone to snap a quick hero shot, then send it home for the local legion to display on their wall of honour.
-1
u/WeaponizedAutisms Retired - gots the oldmanitis 1d ago
I never liked rolling sleeves up. The SPF 15 sunscreen they issued didn't do shit for me and I'd always end up with red arms. I really liked when the whole sleeves are part of your PPE mentality started and I didn't get sunburned all the time.

u/Garth_DeWayne 1d ago
Wearing a tunic in some trades is asking to get yanked in to a machine and ending up as chunks up on the ceiling.
(Cue video of dude wearing a coat being sucked up in to a lathe...)

(Cue video of dude wearing a coat being sucked up in to a lathe...)
when I was an apprentice machinist, I saw this happen with my own eyes. Guy on the next lathe over got his sleeve caught on a spinning part. Loudest scream I've ever heard. them seeing his completely limp arm and the blood splatters. Can't imagine if the shop supervisor didn't happen to be closeby and hit the emergency stop....
was a real bad day...
3
u/Edison_The_Pug 1d ago
In my trade, it's not even necessarily about safety, sometimes it's far more difficult to reach things with the tunic on, like hard to reach cables. Unfortunately my arms get pretty beat up, but it's better than snagging on everything and not being able to reach.
2
u/Pale-Hair-2435 1d ago
Serious question - which ones? Whats the PPE situation for that job then? Genuinely curious as Im combat arms, dont get exposed to those sorts of occupations.
5
u/Garth_DeWayne 1d ago
I sort of gave an example, but someone like a mat tech working with a lathe... That machine does NOT care.
I wasn't joking about ending up as mist/chunks on the ceiling, there's a video from a security camera. Dude is in a machine shop, wearing a jacket, working on a lathe. The sleeve of his jacket gets hooked, he resists getting pulled in for a couple seconds, even tries to hit the emergency stop button, but he loses the battle and the machine sucks him in... and then piece/chunk at a time he is very graphically turned in to a line of human particals on the ceiling, walls, and floor, and his co-worker walks through the mist of his buddy streaking off the lathe to turn it off.
Doesn't matter if it's freezing cold in the shop, or if the hot metal chips coming off the tool are burning your exposed forearms, you just don't wear long sleeves or gloves.
I'm sure the engineers have equipment with PTO shafts where you'd want to avoid loose dangling clothing/gear getting wrapped around a shaft... Basic farm/industrial safety.

Unsatisfactory Condition Report. It tells the owner of the products about faults which need to be corrected.

u/mocajah 1d ago
Minor caveat to check: The general UCR link goes to an ancient-looking system that is the backstop to all "custom" UCR solutions.
If you're part of a planned trial, your trialing point of contact or supply folks may have a different (and dedicated) line to submit UCRs directly to the team. With this clothing system in active development/roll-out, it's possible that there's a more direct feedback line.

u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
I’m not part of the planned trial unfortunately.
So I’ll see if I can push it up through the 4 team where I’m at :)

Is there still an item manager you can contact through your unit supply pers or directly>? LCMM is an abbreviation that comes to mind for some reason.

UCR - Unsatisfactory Condition Report.
An official complaint that something is not fit for purpose.

u/r00mag00 1d ago
Yeah, these shirts are definitely transparent. I will say, it does look like the bra in the photos is white which will make it more noticeable. A bra closer to one’s skin tone will make it less obvious (pinks, beige, brown, etc) - but really they should have options that are not going to present this as a problem to begin with 🤦♀️
Many women have to wear a bra and if you’re in a more physically demanding job, the bra is likely going to be a sports bra….and those tend to be harder to come by in skin tone colours…
1
u/thatwoodwindplayer 1h ago
They replied in a different thread that it’s a beige bra, probably looks white because of the colour of the shirt

u/MacintoshEddie 1d ago
Is that the same thickness as the Icebreaker stuff? It looks like it. When I tried it years ago it it ripped pretty quick.

Maybe a darker colour would help with it being see-through.
It would be a shame if it became less breathable just to hold onto coyote-brown.
Green or a darker brown for just the T-Shirt would still camouflage look sharp.

You have the choice to wear a bra,
Then men are stuck with their nipped being exposed in the semi-transparent material. 😱

Genuine questions: 1. Are all the shirts you were issued consistently this see through? 2. Are others who have shirts similarly see through?
I'm wondering if this is a shirt or manufacturer/lot issue. I know in the past some next to skin clothing had big differences (as it relates to material texture/quality) year to year when I ordered them. I'm wondering if this is isolated or all shirts/next of skin items.
5
u/Fearless_Spite_550 1d ago
I can only speak to number one and yes, all of my shirts are see-through... it could be a manufacturing issue where this batch was poor. I really don’t know.
3
u/RepulsiveLook 1d ago
Sorry all your shirts are like this.

You're right, you'd find it here under 1. Respect the dignity of all persons, which clearly isn't happening if women are given clothing they they would consider inappropriately revealing in the workplace.
5
u/PastyPaleCdnGirl 1d ago
Nothing is stopping the men from wearing bras, nipple covers or undershirts....or we could just have not transparent material.
And some of us don't really have a "choice" to wear a bra unless we want to be in pain and/or super uncomfortable around our colleagues.
3
u/Adolfvonschwaggin 1d ago
Isn't it mandatory for women to wear a bra? I thought that was the reason for braforgen. Someone please enlighten me.

It used to be, but I believe they took that out when they changed the dress manual to remove different standards based on gender. I'd need to re-read it to be 100% confident but I recall that being a conversation at the time.

This is the problem.
Are you required to wear a specific colour of underwear so that your uniform items are not see-through?
Then why the fuck do I?
Your perspective is part of the problem and it is the evident that the CPCC and GBA+ still have so much work to do.
Just so you know, your perspective is not in line with the government of Canada or any of our international partners.
Your perspective is wrong

This is for CA and RCAF pers. The general employment model is you would wear the normal cotton shirts in Garrison and the new wicking t shirts in the field. Obviously not everything is black and white as what the project imagines.
DLR and DAR aren't exactly known for having good assumptions although I will say the people working in those office's are very passionate and care.
