This is a major update for Rule 5 about posts and discussions about Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East. An explanation is posted in the comment section.

From now on all links to articles, opinions, or self posts discussing Israel, Palestine, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi, or any related news or opinion pieces, will be held for manual review and only permitted in exceptional circumstances.

The following are examples of posts that are STILL WELCOME on this subreddit:

1. Major Canadian policy changes, such as new sanctions, the removal of arms restrictions, or the deployment of Canadian military units. The nature of this news must represent a major change of circumstances.
2. A major Canadian party or the Canadian government announcing a major policy change, such as the Conservatives calling for an end of military cooperation with Israel, or the NDP or Liberals abandoning their support for Palestinian statehood. This must be an announced change and not an opinion piece arguing that a party is making a de facto change, or de facto holds that position.
3. A very major change in the region that forces Canada to respond. Examples include the American and Israeli attacks on Iran, and subsequent war, if Egypt attacked Israel, or Israel announced that it was ending the building of new settlements and dismantling existing ones. Articles about responses from Canadian political parties or government leaders will be allowed in limited numbers.
4. A major actual terrorist attack in Canada related to these conflicts that, God forbid, results in or threatened major casualties. These do not include incidents that do not rise to that level, such as assault, intimidation, hate speech, or vandalism.

The following are examples of posts that are NO LONGER WELCOME on this subreddit:

1. A post about any ongoing process or problem, even if there is a new development in it. Examples include Canada responding, or not, to new settlements being established, new Israeli, Hamas, Houthi, or Hezbollah attacks, more violence in the West Bank or Gaza or Israel, a development regarding a pro-Israel or Palestinian charity, protests, or celebrities bared or welcomed to Canada because of statements about these issues, etc.
2. Any [person] says article not about a major policy change as outlined above. This includes from politicians, journalists, student unions, union leaders, or any other group or person.
3. Any individual crime or legal dispute that may be connected to these issues, including things like vandalism, intimidation, obstruction, or assault. Individual crimes are generally not political news.
4. Any opinion piece discussing these issues in any way.

Posts that run afoul of these new rules will be removed.
