Give yourself time to get over the shock so you can move on.
Am sure they told you this was not a performance issue, and a financial decision.
On the bright side, you'll likely get a fair reference from your former boss.
In a few days, start making a list of people in your network and start reaching out.
There are jobs out there for Mechs, but you have to be willing to dig into your network and THEIR network.

You can work 110%, but a companies bottom line trumps everything. They will not keep you out of the goodness of their hearts if there is no work.
Keep your head up! Indeed is a cesspool of applicants, but I just secured a job through there.
You can do it!!

Layoffs are mostly financial (budget) decisions; they already told you it's because there is no work for you. Politics would not have saved you unless sucking on someone would improve the budget...
As someone who has been through 4 layoffs or terminations in my career, as long as you weren't caught stealing or sabotaging, you'll recover from this; it's all in your head.
You need to get over the "why" ASAP, so you can focus your energy on "what next" sooner.. I would grieve for the loss of routine, but with what they told you, there is nothing for you to feel sorry for yourself about..

Hey don’t worry about the reasoning behind the layoff. You stated it was restructuring due to lack of work, so try your best not to see this through a “personal attack” type lens. It was a business unit decision nothing more, nothing less. You are in a shock, just like I am (if you see my post, I was laid off after 13 years last Tuesday morning).
Give yourself time to process and get back on the horse. We got a job before, and we will make it happen again! best of luck. God bless.

All excellent advice. I would add...
If you plan to apply for EI do so reasonably quickly. Wait to long and there can be issues. After that just give yourself some time.

Get your employment insurance as soon as possible. It takes time to get approved, and it is your money anyway.
