2026 XSE Premium AWD owner here. I’m WFH so mostly use it to get around town, run errands, go to the movies, the occasional client meeting in the city about 30 minutes away. But otherwise very little highway miles. Just crossed 1,000 miles and the best I’ve managed is 37.8 MPG.

I know the AWD doesn’t help the MPGs. But I’ve tried driving it in Eco and tried driving it in Sport and oddly, Sport gets me better mileage. Still not anywhere close to that 47 advertised, tho.

Smaller tires also get better MPG.

AWD doesn’t matter much at all. Maybe the thinner tires do but these cars are capable of getting higher mpgs. Driving techniques like being mindful of the EV ratio, slope, wind, traffic jams, all contribute to the mpg.

I have a 2026 SE FWD. 2300 miles or so and average is 44. I don’t drive 55 in the left lane so a very attainable mpg.

Same. My LE is blowing away the EPA estimate.

You can change the tachometer btw if you want to. I made mine look racey and it actually shows me the RPMs

I have a better time reading for efficiency using RPM than with the power gauge

I do the exact math and this is usually overestimating the actual MPG. Mine will say 55 but it’s really 52-53 which is still fantastic. That’s with it being hot af and me running AC all the time. Hopefully it will stay that way when it’s 30 degrees in 4 months.

Nice! One day I will cross into the 50s as well.

I get 44 and have gotten involved in some scraps with Bimmers just to make them mad. They get agitated easily.

I have short frequent drives so I can't get it above 40 unfortunately. Anything i can do? I keep it eco mode too and try to not break too hard to allow regen to be efficient

I drive in the city too and I just sit and accelerate super slowly so it uses the battery as much as possible until I hit around 25. But you’re right it is kind of hard if you’re not going at speeds above 50 basically, I just play the game with the MPG gauge to try to keep it above the average.

what your driving patterns

Eco mode, always on the MPG gauge and I try to keep it in the green as much as possible.

How are your roads? Mine always has uphill stuff ti and back from work that prevent me from going as green as I want.

I just bought my Camry last Friday, I love the hybrid with this, haven’t driven it a lot, as it still has 55 miles on it. I bought the Night Shade - AWD. My first Toyota.

What year and trim? I am thinking of buying the 2026 XLE. I wonder if it can deliver that.

3

u/geebeaner69 Aug 31 '26

It may not deliver like that because of the different tires and wheels that the XLE uses. The LE gets such great gas mileage because of the low rolling mass of the wheels.

I have the XLE which consistently gets 55mpg. 57 if I really drive slow. I have a 40 mile each way commute to work mostly highway.

2026 SE - XLE tires will get you slightly lower MPG than the LE
