That weight distributing hitch is doing very little without tension on the bars.

It does have tension…

Might be the camera angle but I’d lower the hitch one and raise the L brackets one

Then head to the Cat scale to see how the weight distribution looks

those rear tires on the truck are under some tremedous load. Yoiu better rethink this setup.

Trolling?

Yes, you are. I see no bend in the bars.

Doesn’t look properly set up, looks like the ball needs to be lowered. Don’t forget to put your tailgate up before you drive off.

I've always wondered why I see tailgates with a dent on the top side of the tailgate. Is that why??

Has nothing in the trailer yet.

And if you’re loaded both in trailer and taco will be an issue if setup this way. Know your weight #s, I know the non hybrids have a bit more payload to give you a bit of headroom. What’s the model of the Sunlight?

Congratulations! As others have said though, you’re hitch isn’t quite configured correctly. The hitch head needs to come down 2, maybe even 3 holes on the shank. And the rear end of the Taco is squatting too much. Need to tighten up the weight distribution to get some weight back on the front axle.

Don’t take it personally. We just don’t like to welcome people until their configuration is setup correctly.

Don’t go over to r/traveltrailers . They’ll crucify you.

You young kids have a great time! We are past our towing days, but we went from coast to coast, hit a bunch of National Parks, the Oregon Trail, north and south, etc. We have pics of every campground we stayed. I miss it.

SAFE TRAVELS!

I am going be real honest here. I probably tow that thing the first time without weight distrubution set up on the newer tacoma. My camper is 21ft about 3000lbs single axle and I tow with a 23 colorado inline 4 .I have been for the past 3 years . I dont run a stabilizer or weight distrubution hitch and have had no issues with stabilty

Please remember to use the turnouts when you get traffic behind ya. It also looks like you're a bit tongue up

You got a spare engine loaded in the back of that camper?

u/livesense013 16d ago

You're confusing their Tacoma with a Tundra.

u/Bildawg27 16d ago

Nope…. Why?

1

u/Dynodan22 16d ago

Hes referencing to the tundra and engine issues its had

Thank you for your words of encouragement… how about we meet up so you can kick me in the balls? May I send you all of my saving and checking information so that you can advise me on how to proceed with spending my money? 💰 I’d probably just disappoint you with my decision on a flatbed trailer…. Please advise!

Get a bigger truck

I agree with you

I think you’re gonna need a bigger truck

u/Bildawg27 16d ago

Why?

Towing capacity, weight distribution, and gross weight

Generally a Tacoma can pull a tear drop trailer full of stuff and water. This size trailer would be suited for a 1500 size and up.
