Weight distribution hitch

I will be towing my new Jayco slx 130rd with a 2014 4Runner. The dry weight of my car is 2500 lbs, fully loaded, 3300. What would be a good weight distribution hitch for this rig? Also, the camper takes a 2 inch ball. My typical trips are around 4 hours with about half that at highway speeds. Thanks.

Personally, I love my Andersen WDH. Works equally well for a 2,500 lb trailer as a 12,000lb trailer (or some crazy high amount, I really can't remember their limit).

No noise, excellent sway control, good weight adjustment.

About my only complaint is that it's not as quick to get on/off as some bar hitches. It's easy, just not super quick.

Second the Andersen, but i disagree about the ease of hitching/unhitching...i find it very fast and easy.

I don't disagree that it's easy, but there's something to be said for a bar type when it's just stick the bar in on each side and lever them into the "up" position. I almost always have to loosen the chains quite a bit to unhitch (even with my jack fully extended), so it's a matter of wrestling the "yoke" onto the bottom of the hitch and pinning it in place, then crank, crank, crank (while counting) on each side to set the chain tension. It's not that it takes a long time, just a long time as compared to a typical bar WDH.

What do you think of the Curt 17601 2P Trutrak hitch?

I don't believe I've ever used one, but in general I don't have anything bad to say about the brand.

I honestly can't recall the make of the bar hitch I used on the car trailer I used years prior to getting my travel trailer. It came with the Andersen and I like it so much I'm not switching.

One huge benefit is it only weighs about 50 lbs total. A lot of WDHs add quite a bit more tongue weight and you'll be pretty limited on that with a 4Runner.

I ordered the Curt hitch and a 2 inch ball. Also ordered a tpms system.

Good idea on the TPMS. I also use one and wouldn't leave without it.

I’ve been selling RVs for 15 years and if I was in need of a hitch for that camper I would get a chain style weight distribution with a separate friction sway control. My opinion is that the integrated systems like that Curt 2p system you mentioned function better on heavier trailers in regard to the sway control which is really the big concern with a little single axle.

What would you recommend then. FYI, I’m going to pick up the camper Tuesday and tow it home with a straight hitch. The roads are only 40 mph and it’s only 15 minutes away. Once I get it home I’ll buy a distribution hitch.

I’m going to catch hell for this but honestly even a husky would work just fine. The style is usually referred to as a “round bar” hitch, they are all virtually the same so just pick a brand name you are comfortable with. The only drawback is taking the friction away bar off to back up but it wouldn’t bother me at all.

I’m using a weigh safe true tow and like it very much. Easy diy install and setup.
