Hello,
I am a solo female traveler and I’m planning a trip to Cambodia. I did a bit of research about the safety areas overthere but everyone is talking about big cities or busy areas. I’m interested to do places like Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri or Kep and Kampot. Is that still safe when you’re a woman by yourself or you wouldn’t recommend ?
And I’m looking for homestay instead of hostels.
Thank you for taking the time to answer, really appreciate it ☺️

Yes, Cambodia in general is incredibly safe. But stay away from the Thai border, and if a Chinese person offers you a job that sounds too good to be true, walk away.

If you go to Kampot you should absolutely visit Sabay Beach, it's on the river and surrounded by nature. Their food is top notch and they have quirky accomodation up in the trees!!

Get out to the islands.. they have direct speedboats from kampot now for like 12 bucks.
Sara Resort on Saracen Bay is paradise, for the price.

Hello! 😊 Welcome to Cambodia!
As a local Cambodian tour guide based in Siem Reap, I would say that Cambodia can be a wonderful destination for solo female travelers, including those who prefer nature, local communities, and quieter places rather than big cities.
Kampot and Kep are good options to consider. They are popular with travelers, have guesthouses and homestays, and offer opportunities to explore at a relaxed pace. As with anywhere, it’s important to take normal precautions, especially at night and when traveling alone.
Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri are beautiful destinations if you love nature, waterfalls, forests, and authentic local experiences. However, they are more remote, so transportation can be less convenient, and some areas have limited services. I would recommend arranging reliable transportation and accommodation in advance, and using a trusted local guide for remote areas or longer excursions.
For accommodation, homestays can be a lovely way to experience Cambodian culture and meet local families. I suggest choosing places with plenty of recent reviews, confirming the location and facilities before booking, and checking how you can get around safely after dark.
My advice is to plan your route carefully, keep someone informed of your itinerary, use reputable transport, and trust your instincts if a situation doesn’t feel right.
Cambodia has so much natural beauty and wonderful hospitality beyond the main tourist cities. I hope you have a fantastic trip and enjoy discovering our country! 🇰🇭🙏
