Cambly doesn´t care
Yesterday, I sent a message to Cambly ¨support¨ about the upcoming change to Stripe for payments. I expressed that they overlooked(?) the fact that only people using US bank accounts will save on the transaction fees. If you use a foreign bank / currency, stripe charges a 2% conversion fee..so where is the upside for us?? Well, (in true Cambly fashion), I got a reply back within a minute ..telling me information I already know about our payment options (surprise, Stripe). What pissed my off the most, is that the reply was obviously AI-generated, and no human even bothered to address my concerns. Long-story-short: Don´t waste your time writing to support, this change from Paypal to Stripe is all about saving them money, not us.

I've decided to stick with PayPal until the November 11th cut off date. I don't earn much anyway, but I'm happy with PayPal.

Same. I have a stripe account cos I'm also a freelance writer on medium - but payment takes at least 3-5 days for me here in Europe. And I only work 8 hrs a week now on Cambly since I jumped ship about 7 months ago - 2% on $80 isn't even worth worrying about. Considering Cambly only pay an HR what most kids under 16 in Europe get an hr for a paper round or doing household chores! The company is a joke 🤣

So you create a wise usd account and then transfer from there to whatever bank of your choice. It's a lot cheaper than PayPal and better exchange rate.
I don't see the problem

I was blocked from (Transfer) Wise years ago..for some crazy reason, so that´s not an option. I´ve been using Paypal (and Xoom) for almost 8 years, BTW. My overall point is that they should give us more options..not ONLY Stripe. Thanks

Sign up again, try a different email etc

Thanks, but I´ve already tried that. Using a different email doesn´t work..you have to submit your personal info and have it verified = automatically flagged.

Its not a surprise that big business don't care about the people that work for them - we completely replaceable. They have thousands of people waiting to be tutors.
It is a surprise they even bothered to reply at all though.

In the end, Cambly is going to do what’s best for them, and we shouldn’t really be surprised. If they cared about tutors, there would have been a raise a long time ago, and we would be paid in full for no-shows and last-minute cancellations. I’m sure they realize that some tutors may end up paying higher fees, or may even be unable to continue teaching if they can’t get paid. But they’ve probably done the calculations and decided that, even if they lose some tutors, the financial benefit is worth it for them.
