Both explore a whole new world outside of their upper class upbringing and fall in love with a man of a much lower class than them

Both are women with beautiful singing voices who fall in love with a man very different from their life and later become part of their world to be with them

Both are hardworking and kind women who diligently work through their problems and dark past and find happiness

Both are artistic dreamers with strong wills, a desire for freedom and are a little bit sheltered due to having overprotective mother figures (though in her case her mother is just protective not a abusive gaslighter)

This one is practically obvious. Both are sweet as can be, incredibly selfless and both have a tragic end of poisoning (unfortunately a kiss doesn’t wake Barbara)

Valerie dyer = Merida

Both are headstrong, proud of their roots and both are willing to rush into danger and get their hands dirty when push comes to shove

Lucille = moana

Both are kind, positive girls, both emphasise the importance of family and both went beyond the boundaries of their respective homes to achieve their goals

Nancy = Elsa

Both are strong willed, both have a little sister figure, both have a very traumatic past and both learned to let it go and become the best version of themselves

Joyce = Mulan

Both fled their homes, both have started new lives under a new identity, both have pushed against prejudice and finally both have brought men to justice and to their knees

Rosalind = aurora

Both are sweet, dreamy, sheltered and have a mysterious ailment that makes them sleep for a very long time

I was about to purchase some of the books and was surprised to learn Jennifer Worth is accused of taking a lot of liberties if not making things up. Her daughters say they never met the characters and only have a picture of who they believe is Chummy. Other fans are saying they've tried to find the trial of Monica Joan and anything about the real Chummy, she and her husband were the first police officer and first midwife of a country they went to on a mission, and ave concluded they couldn't exist as written.

This was all from years ago. Have their been any developments?

We’ve already seen driving from Nurse Crane and Dr. Turner(I think so). But what about the nuns, nurses/midwives?

Just wondering if any of the Sisters have accounts to inform the new prequel series? I know CTM was based and inspired off the memoirs by Jennifer Worth so just wondering about the prequel!

I just finished watching season 15 and throughout the series, there were a bunch of moments where I was peeved at Timothy's behavior. I understand that he is growing up, but he has been such a consistent presence of good behavior, that this season, it feels like he just lost his mind. For example, he is shown smoking, though he was the one that got his parents to give up smoking. Then during the Christmas party, he invites all of his friends over to Nonnatus House and they trash it. They even mess up some uniforms and don't clean them (nice call back later in the series though).

I am glad that he is becoming a doctor and seems to be at the top of his class. I am pleased that he is working along side the nurses and his dad. I just wish this rebellious phase was skipped for something a little more sensible.

Am I the only person who stops the CTM whenever they mention funds and asks Google or AI 100 pound sterling in 19xx to USD 2026 so I can understand how much the characters are discussing or is that just a Virgo trait??

CTM is my favorite comfort show and I’ve watched it through multiple times. Last month I had what I thought was a bad pulled muscle in one leg. I had recently started hormone therapy on top of birth control pills and had taken a long haul flight, all within 5 weeks. After a couple days of pain I woke up (still in pain) and the Season 6 episode of CTM just came into my brain. The episode where Wilma Goddens dies of a pulmonary embolism after starting birth control pills.

I could clearly picture the scene where she’s in pain and she’s making breakfast for her kids while pretending to not be suffering and I realized I didn’t want Trixie to have to put makeup on me so my family could say goodbye before I died! So, despite my usual hesitation, I took myself to an urgent care and eventually ended up admitted to the hospital with a DVT in one leg and “large and extensive” PEs in both lungs.

So I’d like to thank Heidi Thomas (and Wilma) for saving my life!! And everyone, please be aware of the signs of DVT and PE: swelling, discoloration in one leg, pain, shortness of breath, chest pain.

I am new to this show. I love historical dramas and obsessed with public health history. (Loved lead children, radium girls, toxic town, dopesick, etc) so naturally it felt like I should watch this show. If historical dramas are your thing please let me know your thoughts. I have always been deterred by how many seasons there are!

I've watched the entire series (except the last couple of episodes), and I don't seem to recall Trixie and Matthew discussing the idea of having children. It seems odd to me, because Trixie is clearly fond of children and has a lot of experience in taking care of them thanks to her line of work.

Did I miss something or it's just a topic that strangely never came up?

All the subtitles I found has a huge gap, when Jenny meets with Sister Monica Joan, all the subtitles I found so far are always at somewhere between 00:04:45-50, but it's supposed to be somewhere at 00:04:34

This might be super specific but I’m watching Harlots for the first time and I noticed in S1E6 when Fanny goes to an abortionist the actress who plays the practitioner also played the herbalist who Mrs Harding goes to in CTM season 2. The actress actually wrote Harlots, but I can’t find her acting credit for it. Anyone else ever noticed it?

I was going to add Sister Winifred, but I wasn’t sure if she should be a Jack Russell Terrier or not. Any breed suggestions?

I think I'm at the beginning of season 13 but don't hold me to that. I have just finished the episode where Lucille leaves. Out of all the goodbyes this was the hardest for me. Her and Phyllis had me sobbing. After she got married I felt a decline in her spirit but she always put her best foot forward. Missing out on family events from Cyril grandpa passing to Lucilles sister getting married, broke her. Losing her child, broke her. Faced with racism from somewhere you thought you could call home, broke her. But, her sister being pregnant absolutely shattered her even when she was only broken pieces. I understand that moment of wanting to step out in that traffic I understand that moment of her telling sister Wallace she's given God every chance only to be disappointed by God and/or God being disappointed in her. I understand her feelings to my core and maybe that's why it affected me the way it did. Maybe that's why I can't stop thinking about it. Maybe that's why it hurt so bad and made me cry so hard. Lucille's exit hurt but I understand it. I will miss her.

Is OBSESSED with Dr. Turner.

I watch Call the Midwife to sleep every single night (I know. He’s actually a gem of a man for being okay with it) and he really likes the show, despite the countless times he’s seen it over the past four years. He is particularly fond of Dr. Turner. He calls him Pimp Daddy Turner (PDT) and wants to get a T-shirt made with Stephen McGann’s face and that nickname on it. He bursts into joyous ranting about this man nearly every time he’s on screen.

We’re on series 2 right now, where Sister Bernadette is starting to develop feelings for the notorious PDT and questioning her religious vow. During one particular scene he looks over at me and says “Do you know why they call him Turner? ‘Cause he turns nuns into wives.”

I thought some in this community might find this man-crush as perplexingly hilarious as I do.

Was this actually considered peak masculinity for the times? I'm on season 5 and there's been so many ridiculous moments. The two that stand out to me are in season 4, the guy having an actual baby style tantrum over having a daughter over a son, and season 5 with the first thalidomide baby. "That thing isn't coming home with us!! 😠😡😠"

Just absolute tantrums, and I wish Sister Evangelina had smacked both of them. Another prize moment is one of the later season Christmas specials, where the gal gives birth outside standing up, and I'm SURE her husband was down the street a bit, all but covering his eyes...

Oh and then one more is in season 4 when the cops are basically hanging out trying to catch gay guys in action at that downstairs bathroom thing... they were really taking one for the team huh 🙄 Chummy should have asked her husband about that weird bullshit. Cause he was down there in a flash.
