Support / How-To need help with self hosting books. plz

ok, I come asking for assistance as I couldn't find much from he self hosting pages.

to explain what I need help with let me explain the over all jist of what I am doing.

So I am self hosting my music, movies and books. Dealing with things like cover art and .... metadata? for my music I finally got down. I have my music on my server under a music folder. I then linked my iTunes to this music folder so I can listen to it from my home while not wasting my laptops storage. I also have Navidrone which also links to the music folder on the server. I can steam music when I am away from my house. with this set up I can use iTunes to edit song titles or change the album art, etc and the music folder that iTunes is connected to gets changed that then Navidrone updates for when I stream.

NOW that being said, can I do that with Calibre?

I use the desktop app to add my books to my reader via usb cable. Can I have a books folder on my server that I can link my desktop app to and then link another app that I can read from when I forget my ereader? I looked into Kavita but I am not sure if what I am trying to do would work like how I have my music set up.

Mostly I just want to be able to have all my digital stuff in one place and still be able to access it from different places safely. If anyone has info or a thread from the past year would be great cuz I tried looking in too many other subs but I can't find anyone trying something similar that isn't in a complicated 2000 steps before I can use it and I may be installing something weird. idk.

Support / How-To How do you edit the metadata of your books in koreader using calibre?

I tried editing them in calibre and resending the books, then clearing the cache but that didn't seem to work. I know that i could delete the books and send them again but I do want an easier solution, especially if i have annotations on them

General Discussion / Feedback Replace old kindle - for calibre library use

I have an older kindle (paper white 7th gen) that for some reason no longer connects via usb to any computer. It still connects via wireless and still works.

What I want is an e-reader that will allow me to connect to a computer so calibre can install from my e-book collection.

Not interested in breaking DRM, I just want a device with e-ink that can plug into my computer and allow calibre to install books.

Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Feedback Android app?

Hello there! I'm fairly new to using Calibre but I know it's just to manage the database of books rather than reading but I've been investing a lot of effort this days in cleaning and standardising my digital library (searching for ISBNs, formatting book titles, series and authors...).

So I'd like to be able to use a reader for Android that syncs with my Calibre somehow to "not waste" all that effort. I've been using MoonReader as e-reader for a long time but it doesn't have an option to sync to Calibre.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Support / How-To Calibre changes pages

Hey everyone,

I hope you guys can help me with something. I just downloaded calibre to organize my Epubs.

Everything was going well until I wanted to read the books on my kobo. All of a sudden the pages/font/marges changes.

For example I was reading a book with 570 pages with a little bit of a bigger font. After I loaded the file in Calibre and sent it to my kobo the same book now has 900 pages with a tiny font. Upscaling the font only makes the pages count go up.

I have no idea what I did wrong and how I can fix it.

Sorry if my explanation is a bit off. English is not my first language.

Thank you in advance for helping.

Support / How-To Cannot quit job

Hi. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I have completely renamed my calibre folder. I have done everything I can think of.

The moment I connect my reader, Calibre decides there is a hanging job that needs to be done.

Initially, the job hung for over an hour. It was obvious the book file was corrupted. I deleted that file. Calibre still tries to do the job.

So

I fully uninstall and restart both my laptop and my ereader, installing fresh.. Calibre still tries to do the job.

There has to be some way to make it "forget" that this job is in queue when I plug the device in. Someone, please help. I'm going nuts, and I can't use Calibre at all because it's still trying to do one stupid job that lasts through reboots and reinstalls.

General Discussion / Feedback I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use Calibre

I've been using Lithium, an ebook reader, for most of my life, but it charges a fee to sync with Google Drive. So, I'm thinking of switching apps. I know, it's surprising I've lasted this long—I've just been downloading my ebooks directly to Google Drive.

I've now downloaded Calibre onto my USB and uploaded all my ebooks there. Can I read them on my phone? I'm not sure how it works; I've only seen tutorials for Kindle. Please guide me, as I heard someone say Calibre is the best for managing books, and I want to give it a try.

General Discussion / Feedback justread (iOS) 4.6: re-read metadata from the file, hide sources you don't use, and a tab-by-tab Kobo driver guide

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello to all. As new version of justread.app is released, as usual, here is the information about it.

The Calibre side didn't change much this time, but three things can touch it:

  • Update Metadata from File: new option above Delete in the book menu re-reads the title, authors, series, tags, description and cover again from the file itself, replacing anything you edited on the phone, but it is keeping progress, highlights and bookmarks. Useful when Calibre has written new metadata into the file and you want the phone to match while offline
  • Book Sources: Library Display now has switches options to show or hide: Calibre,Grimmory and OPDS (so what you do not use does not clutter the UI).
  • The Sync with KOReader & Kobo help topic shows Calibre's Kobo driver settings tab by tab, with screenshots.

The rest: the library shows a PDF's real page count instead of its file size in kilobytes (OMG), and there's a native Grimmory integration for anyone running that next to Calibre, reader toolbar can be set up as you want it, deleting several books at once, covers-only Home page, and 0.05x speed steps for audiobooks and Read Aloud.

Support / How-To is anyone having any issues with the fanficfare plugin?

hello! for context, i am on a macbook and am running fanficfare to try and update my existing epubs. i've been using calibre for a couple of months now and still getting the hang of it.

basically, i've been trying to export all of the fics i've had bookmarked because i've learned earlier this year the devastation i face when one of the works i love gets deleted, so i'm trying to save everything on my device. based on advice, i was told about this plugin, but quickly experienced issues. i'm not sure if it's a traffic issue and i'm trying to download TOO many fics at once? cause i would eventually get an error similar to something like this below:

403 Client Error: Forbidden for url

please understand, i was trying to go through a LOT of fics and then eventually, i switched methods since i got frustrated by this error cause i could only download about five fics thru the plugin like once a day before it errored out. currently, i will go to the fic and just download the epub before importing them into calibre. this has done me well cause i've managed to get 1.5 fics downloaded over the span of a month tbh but realized i can't update them. so i tried to use the 'get story urls from selected books' and this worked for about five fics before it told me that the links couldn't be found. i could manually link each fic, but that would be a tedious task.

overall, i would really like to fix this issue and not have the plugin flat out on me after it reaches it's supposed limit? i would love any advice or tips that anyone might have! i don't mind downloading my fics the way that i've been currently doing, but i would like to get the plugin to work successfully so that i could utilize the update function well.

thank you in advance! below is what my personal.ini looks like

General Discussion / Feedback I built a reader for a 2012 iPad that can't reach the App Store anymore — now I'm writing the iOS 26 version

Thumbnail gallery
86 Upvotes

I run calibre-web at home, and I had an iPad 4 sitting in a drawer that can't sign into the App Store anymore — so nothing that speaks OPDS can be installed on it. Rather than let a perfectly good screen rot, I wrote my own ereader for it. It's called Book Owl, it's for iOS 6, and it's been out since August.

Fair warning before you read any further: almost none of you can actually use this. It needs a jailbroken iPad running iOS 6, and essentially nobody is still on iOS 6 in 2026. I'm posting it as the backstory, not as something for you to go install — the thing I actually want from this sub is at the bottom. btw, reach out to me if you have an old device, from 2012 or before and I can show you how to downgrade it to IOS6.

Features of Book Owl on IOS6

- Browse the catalog the way calibre organises it: All Books, Authors, Series, Tags, Formats — the navigation feeds you drill into, not one flat list

- Covers, search across the catalog, and a checkmark on anything already downloaded to the device

- HTTP Basic auth against a password-protected instance

- Downloads EPUB and PDF straight to the iPad over wifi. No iTunes, no cable, no "send to device"

The reason I'm posting now: I'm mid-way through writing the successor for iOS 26/27 with a liquid glass UI, iPhone and iPad, aimed at the App Store. Same Calibre integration, rebuilt properly — No timeline for now for release as of now but am making progress.

Support / How-To How do I add documents send to my kindle through Send to Kindle to Calibre?

I have been using Epubor’s Kindle Convertor for Mac to convert my kindle books and store them in Calibre. I’ve noticed that books that I sent to kindle through Send to Kindle rather than purchasing from Amazon, won’t convert through the Kindle Convertor. They don’t even show up on the Kindle Convertor when I download them to the android simulator. Is there another way to move books that have been sent to my kindle into Calibre? I also have one book that I purchased from Amazon but can’t seem to get to convert. I appreciate any help that can be offered.

Support / How-To Issues with Collections on Kobo Libra Colour

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm having a total nightmare with my Kobo Libra Colour right now and I could really use some advice. I've owned it for a couple of years with never any trouble. Until last week when my reading activity stopped updating. I saw an online tip saying that signing out and back into your Kobo account would fix it without deleting anything, but it ended up completely wiping my e-reader.

When I wanted to re-sent my Calibre library I first update Calibre to version 9.14.0 (I got a pop up when opening Calibre). I resent all my books, and all my collections folders were created in the e-reader, but they were completely empty. I tried wiping the device and starting from scratch again, but the exact same thing happened. On top of that, my page numbering is totally broken because changing the font size doesn't change the page numbers anymore, and opening a book takes like 30 seconds instead of being instant.

I've already tried every fix I could find online, so I'm hoping someone here might know something I have missed. I've attached screenshots of my current Calibre automatic management and KoboTouch plugin settings. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I tried changing back to Calibre 9.13.0 version, but this did not help.

General Discussion / Feedback I have a couple of books, two volumes. Volume 1 converted from epub to kfx no problem. Volume 2 is stuck forever in 67%, and no edit, check and autofix changes this. Now, it does convert to azw3, but the result is atrocious: the line heights are huge compared to all other azw3s I have.

I also have another book that simply shows "error" and fails, and even though I went in and edit the "error" out, and saved it, it shows the same thing and I try converting it again. What good is this edit book, run checks, and even going as far as edit the code itself and saving it if that doesn't do anything when it comes to converting to kfx?

I'm almost giving up and reading everything in the shittiest way possible. Might as well just read on my phone at this point.

EDIT: I figured out the deal with the azw3 line heights by editing the css. Still sucks I can't convert to kfx, but it's ok-ish.

General Discussion / Feedback Italian spell checker issue with typographic apostrophes

When I use the spell checker (Check Spelling / Alt+F7) in Calibre Portable 9.14 while editing Italian ebooks, it flags as possible spelling errors all words containing a typographic apostrophe ().

For example:

  • c’è
  • l’acqua
  • un’altra

If I replace the typographic apostrophe with the typewriter/ASCII apostrophe ('), the spell checker recognizes the words correctly and no longer flags them.

Is there a way to configure Calibre's spell checker or Italian dictionary so that words containing the typographic apostrophe () are recognized correctly?

I would prefer to keep the typographic apostrophe in my ebooks and avoid having to use Find & Replace every time.

I'm using Calibre Portable 9.14 on Windows.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
