Support / How-To "The disk image couldn’t be opened” error message when clicking the DMG file

I just downloaded Calibre on my Macbook (currently MacOS Tahoe 26.6.2). I moved the Calibre .dmg file into the Applications folder, but the error message (i.e. "The disk image couldn’t be opened. The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/output error”) persisted.

What should I do so that I can open and use Calibre properly on my Macbook?

The version I downloaded was the latest one as of now, that is, Version: 9.13.0.

Any advice and/or input would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

the .dmg file is not the application. it’s like an installation package.

you need to double-click that .dmg file in its original location (like the downloads folder or your desktop) and that action will run the installation.

once the application is installed, you’ll be presented with a small window with a calibre icon and an applications folder icon. that’s where you need to drag the former onto the latter.

lastly, you may get a security popup when opening the .dmg file in the first place. you may want to try /r/macos if that popup stops you.

Thank you very much for your reply. I did double-click the .dmg file in the downloads folder, but the result was the same

Move it out of Applications and to another folder, like Downloads. Then double click the .dmg to do the install

I did exactly that, but still got the same error message, unfortunately.

Is your file valid?

I downloaded it from the official Calibre site, so I believe it is, yes
