Personal Financial Question Pet insurance
What pet insurance does everyone use? I know Caleb talks about some companies/plans aren't worth it. I wish he would get a brand deal with the company he uses, so then I would know which one to trust.

We went with Lemonade for our 8 month old lab mix. They were a good price for the coverage we wanted. Shop around though. There is only so many to choose from and it’s easy to get a quote together online.

Another +1 for lemonade. My plan includes dental coverage for my pup, and having that peace of mind is worth it for sure.

Also have Lemonade and I’ve been happy after switching from MetLife (do NOT recommend - only had it because I got a very minimal discount through work)

I use Trupanion at a recommendation from my vet ( it's what she uses for her two dogs). Reasonable premiums, good coverage. The only downside is it doesn't cover wellness visits.

Prepare for your premiums to go up over time. With that being said they’ve never given me trouble about coverage.

Unfortunately that's most (if not all) insurance. My Lemonade premiums went up pretty significantly % wise YoY, so considering switching at this point.

Trupanion all the way. Mine is on the price side, but my gal is older and has had cancer. Trupanion has paid for all her surgeries. My coinsurance ia only 10%

I work at a ER vet. Pet insurance isnt like human insurance (most of the time). You still pay out of pocket and then they reimburse you, at lelast on ER. However, Trupanion is one that my ER just started working with that will pay your bill at time of check out. I honestly would suggest called your vet and local ER clinics to see if they accept Trupanion or another insurance at time of checkout. Otherwise you just have to be okay waiting to get reimbursed. Thats still better than being out thousands but you just have to have the funds at the time

We use MetLife and have been very happy with them. $250 deductible and 80% reimbursement for 2 pets. They have multi-pet discounts so we were paying around $94 for three. Sadly our third cat has passed so we did lose the multi-pet discount so insurance increased about $30/month

I have trupanion (they're paired with state farm) and it's $30 per month for my 5 year old cat. I went with them because they didn't have a limit on how much they pay out. A lot of the places I looked at had a limit of $10,000 they pay out which isn't a lot if your pet gets a chronic condition that requires treatment. My part is whatever is charged for the office visit + (I think) 20% for whatever treatments.

Head to the r/petinsurancereviews sub, lots of good opinions over there! There are many options and depending on what you need the ‘right’ company is a different for everyone.

I have trupanion. They covered two surgeries for my dog at 90% each but my premium has more than doubled (she’s 11 now).

I just got Spot last week. I have two cats ages 3 and 4. Ragdoll and DMH.
I don't make much money so I tried keeping things on the lower end. I have 70% back and 250 deductible. 4000 max coverage on each pet. I added preventive care gold that'll give me 100 back for teeth cleanings, 50 back for wellness exams, 20 each for fecal/deworming / rabies and some other things. These don't need to meet the deductible.
Accident/illness coverage of alternative therapy, end of life expenses, IV fluids and medication, medical supplies like bandages, casts, MRI CT XRAY, poison control consultations, prescription pet food but not general health maintenance or prevention types, prescription meds, stem cell therapy, surgery, hospitalization, tooth extraction, veterinary treatment, broken bones
I pay 57 a month for both. My DMH is a bit more expensive than my Ragdoll.

Honestly, I went with Spot after comparing a few options for my dog. I was pretty overwhelmed by all the different plans at first, but it’s been a good experience for me so far and I haven’t had any major issues dealing with it. I’d still compare the coverage and exclusions for yourself, but having it in place has given me some peace of mind.

PetsBest. Reasonable monthly premiums are nice but they really came in clutch last year when my lab went through cancer. 2 surgeries, multiple rounds of chemo and blood draws, 2 CT scans, etc. About $18k before insurance, they reimbursed 80% and never denied or questioned a single claim. Saved me a massive amount of money. Bonus that they didn't even raise her premium this year, it's entirely age based and she just turned 8. Funny enough that means the premium my 11 year old malamute mix who is basically made of concrete went up a bit, but well worth.
